Some people think that all of tumblr is just a bunch of "sjw teenage girls" when they haven't even bothered to join the site and see that it's basically whatever you want it to be. In other words, ignorant morons.
as someone whos been on tumblr for a long ass time thats true, but you will still run into chair activists that spread this shit like wildfire just because it appeals to them so fucking much even if its cringey as shit dialogue.
what does this even have to do with tumblr
Because it has a very hipster-indie type tone and one of the girls has blue hair. That being said, I am starting to get interested in this sort of interactive story type gameplay after playing Walking Dead S1. I'll wait until the entire thing is out first before I play it though.
Or maybe because the game looked like shit in the first trailer. The trailer literally calls it an interactive indie movie. That doesn't sound like a good game. Coupled with the stupid hipster setting and it looks unappealing as fuck. And yeah, I said it. It has hipster shit all over it. The characters make cringe-worthy references to ~nerdy~ stuff like anime and Scott Pilgrim. The main character uses ~nerdy~ lingo like "kek" in text messages and wants to watch, specifically, Final Fantasy: Spirits Within on a "tasty plasma". Nobody talks like this. It's just shitty hipster writing, trying to go "ha ha, look at how OBSCURE this nerdy reference is!" wherever it can. I mean, the time travel mechanic seemed interesting (and I even said as much in the original thread), but everything else about this game looks stupid as hell.
If its an interactive hipster movie and not a game, doesn't really mean that its garbage... TWD was just an interactive zombie tv show and its one of my favorite game (series?)s
If its an interactive hipster movie and not a game, doesn't really mean that its garbage... TWD was just an interactive zombie tv show and its one of my favorite game (series?)s
TWD had great writing and engaging characters. This doesn't really.
TWD had great writing and engaging characters. This doesn't really.
But it does, have you played it?
But it does, have you played it?
YOU HELLA SAVED MY LIFE
I was gifted this game and I expected to hate it, but it's honestly really not bad. It's pretty solid. Yes, some of the writing is cringey as shit and the lipsync is terrible and I won't defend it for that. Overall though, it's intriguing, well paced, and the characters are pretty likeable, even despite the one or two stupid meme lines. I think this game deserves to be given more of a chance, and I'm excited to see how later episodes play out. The trailers made it look way worse than it actually is. [editline]3rd February 2015[/editline] Pretty much if you like Telltale Games you will probably like this, it's pretty similar in terms of quality and gameplay.
But it does, have you played it?
Yes I have. If you think it has good writing or engaging characters, well, good for you.
what does this even have to do with tumblr
i don't mean in terms of the medium but a good portion of its userbase (and it's pretty clear who) is being specifically (and poorly) catered too. is that bad? no. in this case, however, i think it's a pretty weak attempt and appears exploitative as a result.
sounds like you haven't even played it
i have watched the entire first episode. the side characters are faceless to me outside of chloe and the stepfather. as far as gameplay goes, the protagonist has an unmistakably predefined personality, whereas, say, Lee in the walking dead was a nearly blank slate. you don't know much about Lee besides the fact that he was a history teacher and involved in a crime. max has weirdly specific hobbies, interests, so forth, and it definitely matters to feel involved in a game that is entirely plot. to me she's pretty unlikable, which i suppose not everyone will feel the same about. but i think since they opted to make a game and not a b-movie, it's not to be discounted. once again, not bashing the medium; games like this are perfectly acceptable, but it's the fact that the genre is so new that anything can be hailed as quality is just dumb.
This looks like the Juno of videogames. [editline]4th February 2015[/editline] Watched a LP, this is the most pretentious shit ever.
"Tumblrinas" don't even talk like this. I should know, I live in goddamn California. I'm surrounded by them. Everyone is either "omg i CANNoT EVEN" or someone who reblogs pretentious bullshit 24/7.
for anyone bitching about how the girls have annoying dialogue, consider that they were intentionally written to sound like annoying teenaged girls?
for anyone bitching about how the girls have annoying dialogue, consider that they were intentionally written to sound like annoying teenaged girls?
Just because they might be intentionally written like that doesn't stop them from being kinda annoying.
Just because they might be intentionally written like that doesn't stop them from being kinda annoying.
they're intentionally annoying because they're written to sound like teenage girls. dramatic, trying to be deep, etc.
Played it and it was "meh". It suffers characters being too cliché.
for anyone bitching about how the girls have annoying dialogue, consider that they were intentionally written to sound like annoying teenaged girls?
What's the goal of creating annoying unlikeable main characters?
played it. i thought it was pretty good. the time reversal aspect is neat, being able to reverse decisions for a better (or worse) outcome. i didn't mind the characters and the story seems interesting so far.
It reminds me of Lindsay Lohan movies when she was a kid. I think I'm down to try it.
Coming from someone that didn't like the Walking Dead at all ,aside from the setting being a boring, dreary cliché just as overused as high-school settings (one might point out both feature moaning, shambling zombies), I found literally no reason to continue playing after completing the first episode. The trial and error/stealth puzzle sections were something I absolutely hated. The only two characters I found even sort of interesting were Clementine and the older friendly bloke with the cap you come across. Two other characters that keep appearing in that episode are your generic Kaidan/Ashley, Carth/Bastilla pair that bore me to my eyeballs. The twist of course is that [sp] one of them dies in a repeat of "save this one or this one" already used in the same episode. [/sp] Now, I played The Wolf Among Us and thankfully the drawn out puzzle sections were more or less gone, but your choices matter absolutely jackshit. The most meaningful choice outside of the ending I can remember making was whether or not to kill a character, and all that ultimately meant is that he'd be in the background of one scene later before he died a QTE death by my hands with people like him. [sp]Those people even start to seem reasonable, but no matter what happens, they're going to die[/sp]. The whole story is a straight line towards the execution of the antagonist. There's no bumps. Piss someone off and you can still use them. Ultimately the same series of events always happens. There's no failure, or semi-failure state in attempting to get somewhere. The only real differences is that people will either sound more or less pissed off based on how much of a dick you are. I tried Life is Strange, and I've been hooked in. The language used is a bit weird at times, but I find the story genuinely interesting, and the choices made seem to give bigger space for impact than TWD and TWAM. Of course, we won't really get to see that until Episode 2, but Telltale has just shown, based on what I've heard, that they still can't design a story with an entirely dynamic course of events with the release of the new G.O.T episode. I like the use of music, the graphics and the overall charm and most importantly I want to see the next episode. Lip syncing, some characters and some clichés are noticeable problems, but the thing is guys, these aren't oscar-winner-level consistent productions. People expect way too much, like its actually possible you can make a story like this with no clichés. On balance, Life is Strange really isn't much better or worse than the other popular adventure games in this genre at the moment. And no, there isn't a blatant, or even sub-textual SJW agenda in EP1. One might argue that the [sp] sexual abuse reveal one character gives at the end[/sp] seems to linger in that direction, but I'd immediately point out that literally all other mediums of fiction could have a reveal like that and never be accused of pushing a SJW agenda.
fun fact: people found out all the assets for Episode 2 are in the game files for Episode 1. so people are already playing episode 2 A++ [editline]5th February 2015[/editline] also episode 3 choices are leaked too
