The combat is good, I wish it had been a bit more tactical like the first game, but it combined a fast paced fight with a need for solid positioning and teamwork. The story was good, I only played through with the mages on my side, but from what I hear the templar alliance plot is better. I mean to reinstall and play that plot again sometime. The only bad thing to the game is the absolutely horrendous crafting system.
Other than that, all the characters were unique in their own way and I even liked Sera. Although she is fairly difficult to look at sometimes.
I would recommend blackwall. Probably my favorite character.
I would also recommend playing an elf and getting to know solas.

Don't waste your time in the Hinterlands, seriously, just move on when you get the chance.

That advice really shows the greatest flaw of Inquisition, doesn't it? It's the huge maps they had with barely any worthwhile content. It's what Witcher 3 (along with its writing of course) made so great and stand out compared to Inquisition.

Granted, the major issue with DAI is that the hinterlands is the first area you visit, and it's also the one of the few zones that's bloated with so many fetch quests, same with the second zone you visit, the storm coasts.
Later on you start visiting zones with less fetch quests and more coherent storylines and narratives for each zone, like Crestwood and Emprise du Lion.
I don't really know about this whole "Bioware used to be amazing" thing. I've played almost every Bioware game and pretty much all of them are extremely flawed, but just about all of them also have redeeming qualities.
Baldur's Gate was only good because the standards at the time were basically non-existant. The story is complete shit, the gameplay is a mess, your companions are scarcely even characters. BG2 has a more interesting story, especially early on, more fleshed out characters, but the gameplay is arguably even more of a mess.
Neverwinter Nights was pretty much only good because of the mod-tools, the actual campaign sucked shit. Expansions were better but still not really great. Gameplay was pretty good though, the graphics were pretty good for the time, and the sound design is absolutely amazing. Campaign still sucked but especially chapter 1 of it had an incredible atmosphere because of the sound.
KOTOR was alright but the story was generic as fuck and because of the console focus the UI was absolute shit.
The Mass Effect series is a sliding scale of shit. The first game took the worst aspects of a cover shooter and bolted the worst parts of an RPG onto it and then made up a few unique problems of their own, but then it had a pretty neat setting and good characters. Every game afterwards gradually made the combat more palatable, but then simultaneously made the story and setting more retarded, Mass Effect just can't have both be good. Andromeda looks like it's going even further in that direction, gameplay looks like a big improvement to ME3, now we'll see how much everything else had to suffer for that. Only thing that stayed good across all the games was the party banter, wouldn't be surprised if that goes with Andromeda.
Dragon Age Origins was pretty good though. Good characters, good gameplay, good story, nothing really stands out as being terrible about it. Then there's Dragon Age 2, which is the exact opposite. Total shitstain. Haven't played Inquisition, can't really comment.
Haven't played Jade Empire, Sonic Chronicles or TOR either, can't really comment on them except that TOR sucking was a huge meme around release and no one really talks about Sonic Chronicles, not even hardcore Bioware or Sonic fans.
Out of the ones that I have played though, the only ones I'd really say sucked are Dragon Age 2 and Baldur's Gate. And maybe Neverwinter Nights IF you don't count mods or the expansion packs.

how can anyone say that videogames aren't art
I suspect the issue isn't money or talent, but rather time - I suspect the sheer amount of animations being dumped onto each animator is such that, combined with deadlines and bad project management, they can't refine their work and fix obvious issues without drowning in the deluge, so we get rough, buggy not-entirely-refined motion capture.
CDPR spoke about having a similar issue recently, having to produce 7000 new animations for the Witcher 3 DLCs in one year, without any support from their programming team. (For comparison, the base game's 16000 animations were done over three years!)
i talked about this with someone else today. just for reference, mass effect andromeda was announced in june, a release date was given for "late 2016", and our first gameplay reveal was in december of 2016. it was delayed to early 2017, until finally settling on march a month ago.
it was either rushed, or considered "done" at some point and didn't pass bug checks for gamebreaking bugs. i dont know which would be worse.
btw as i'm sure someone in the thread already said, bioware's multiplayer beta for the game has been cancelled. the response they gave was this:
Update: In response to my inquiry, BioWare sent over the following statement. "Our team worked extremely hard building, testing, and balancing multiplayer, and we ultimately determined that a tech test would not be necessary."
i'm legit trying to analyze why they would say something like this.

"Its not done and won't be stable in time for the intended beta schedule. Get ready for a several gig day 1 patch it you bought a physical copy." is the vibe I got from that announcement.

That announcement + the video is making me second guess getting Andromeda, something I was sort of kind of onboard for. So mission accomplished I guess.

Life is beautiful. This game, not so much.
