in my posts i do not refer to this group specifically but rather "girl gamers" as a whole, whom are generalized on page one, those being the posts im responding to. i can't speak for this group in particular. i also disagree with your assumption that the takeaway from a group like this will be"women can be good at league too" because they never made that claim either, because as you say it doesnt exist. however there is a much larger and more general understanding that girls are a very small minority in gaming and "unimportant" or "irrelevant," and at a competitive level there's really no one that a female LoL player can relate to easily due to the gender gap (in competitive males are 99%, no?). not only do groups like this fight against people that like to marginalize female gamers (by saying bullshit like "they just want attention" or "they're not actually good at the game") but also encourage female gamers to attempt to play pro, or just to play more in general and expand the gaming community demographics. again, i insist people watching the original try watching the video from the perspective of a girl that plays games who is constantly surrounded by dudes putting her down or being creeps, etc, etc. it's empowering and encouraging to see this sort of this. obviously this example in particular is a bit over the top and perhaps a bit cheesy but it is certainly better than nothing at all.

I'm not trying to simplify the issue here, I'm sure there a million ways we can talk about this.
But why can't we just ignore the persons gender and just enjoy the game, yes them using the fact that they're female as a gimmick to advertise their team is silly, and will most certanly atract alot of attention, and when you're sponsored that's good, it's a cheap way of getting attention for you team but what ever.
From my experience with clans/pubs in my cs times, the only people who made a big deal of female players were those fucking annoying 12 year olds wo thought they had a chance with them, not to say the older guys sometimes lost control, but things eventually calm down and everyone just enjoys the game.
Hell even when doing tryout for clans, I've seen all kinds of people, and it didnt matter what you were as long as you were good at what you were doing.
And this brings me back to my point can't we all just work together to enjoy the game we're playing instead of trying to single out that one unusual player :I

My friend and coworker just joined a higher-end competitive League team and is moving to St. Louis shortly or something. So he plays alot. Before this, though, his usual team consisted of like 30% women, and it wasn't forced or an issue, it just naturally fell that way. Obviously this is a male-dominated game and the portrayal of both genders (but more so women) caters to sexual gender fantasies (mostly for the sake of the men players, for the sake of profit), but that's not to say that women aren't openly accepted without question in at least some groups, as it should be. This particular group seems to be basing its existence not out of alienation or misogyny, but out of proportion and identity. Perhaps it is not the case- perhaps what thisisspain is saying (the group exists because women are nominally rejected/unwelcome/alienated from the rest of the community) is true, because this does happen and is usually the case... but I'm not sure, based only off of my own observational evidence, that it is. Perhaps this particular group is not based out of alienation but instead merely out of identity, perhaps like a location-based or other identity based groups. Of course that identity wouldn't be an issue if "being a girl" wasn't itself a thing of controversy in the gaming world, but all the same.
May be wrong here, haven't really thought much about it.
