Ok most people in this thread said the best movies were scott pilgrim and kick ass so don't even.
Because Scott Pilgrim was a real good movie. But apparently because of your posts in the Scott Pilgrim thread, you are ignorant to the fact that it was good. Also Nice job judging a film by the previews.
Because Scott Pilgrim was a real good movie. But apparently because of your posts in the Scott Pilgrim thread, you are ignorant to the fact that it was good. Also Nice job judging a film by the previews.
Well good thing the trailers describe the film perfectly huh? I'm a pretty big fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz so I did actually see it. It's definitely not the worst movie of 2010 and it's not worse than Kick Ass but if it's on a top 3 list of 2010 then this was just a miserable year.
Inception, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and Kick Ass
Because Scott Pilgrim was a real good movie. But apparently because of your posts in the Scott Pilgrim thread, you are ignorant to the fact that it was good. Also Nice job judging a film by the previews.
I've seen Scott Pilgrim. I thought that it did a good job, and Michael Cera was better in this role than anything else, mostly because it subverts his doe eyed, meek acting style, which makes the character seem like a real bastard. Nevertheless, the movie felt rushed and I haven't even read the comics, it wasn't all that funny, and it never struck me as amzing, it always hovered round 'pretty good'. Kick Ass, for me, was better. I haven't read the comic of that either, but it didn't pull any punched with regards to the violence, and while the overarching plot was somewhat weak Hit Girl and Big Daddy saved the day by breaking up an otherwise corny movie with riciculously good acting and brutal action. Neither were the best movie of 2010 though. [editline]28th December 2010[/editline]
OK, I've had a little think and it's probably 1. Toy Story 3 2. Inception 3. The Social Network Black Swan and Kick Ass are up there too though. Tron Legacy and Iron Man 2 however were disappointments, though they were still sort of entertaining. Plus they both had incredibly pretty girls in them, so if anything I got to gawp at ladies for a few hours, which is nothing if not pleasant.
OK, a little revision here. Replace Kick ass with Easy A. Now I know what you're thinking; Monk, are you a fucking gay or something? Or worse, are you a girl? Now ease up there, because I'll tell you why I liked it. I recently saw Juno. Critics loved it (It got a comparable rating to The Dark Knight on RottenTomatoes), and frankly I was kind of intrigued to see if American teen comedies could find a nice middleground between the disgusting crassness of American Pie and the sickening bullshit of whatever shitty romcom was being pushed out that week. I watched Juno, and I was disappointed. It tried so hard to be 'quirky' and 'original' that it made me want to throw up into my nutsack. Most of the characters I wanted to slap in the face, with the possible exception of Ellen Page at extremely select points around the film and of course J.K Simmons. Plus, whether it was intentional or not, the whole movie was hipster as fuck, with an obnoxious as hell soundtrack. Now, why am I telling you this? Because I tried to give American teen comedies another try with Easy A, and unlike Juno, it doesn't suck. It still has its faults (the romance scenes are somewhat jarring and in fact the whole romance plot feels a little weird), but it is otherwise a great movie. The main character is not endearing because she's 'quirky', she's endearing because she's absolutely full of wit, and played to perfection by Emma Stone, who is FAR better in this film than 2009's overrated Zombieland. The supporting cast is good too, with the larger than life characters being funny, rather than incredibly irritating. Plus it has a gay guy in it who I don't want to tear apart with my bear hands. This isn't because he's a closeted gay guy, it's just that he's not a goddamn camp motherfucker that is in every teen comedy since fucking 1990. Especially Glee. Fuck Glee. And unusually for a movie about teens screwing each other, the attitude to sex is a nice middleground as well, better than the crassness offered by American Pie and the throwaway saccharine crap Juno throws at you. Oh, and for no reason at all it has Malcolm McDowell as the school headmaster. That's pretty cool. Plus Emma Stone is really cute in it. That might've helped. Basically, ti's not perfect, but it's the first American comedy aimed at teens in a long while that's not made me want to shit into my own mouth tonumb the pain. And it's really funny, I don't think I've laughed with such frequency at anything that's not British. Sorry america, but you're normally so devoid of wit. Not the best film of 2010, but a very good one nonetheless.
College Grad why are you rating everyone heart?
He has gone from rating people Dumb, because they list Inception in their top movies, to rating them Heart. I am wondering if he seriously has nothing better to do on here.
Shutter island was this year? Hell yeah, that's up there too, I really liked it. Though I could kind of predict the twist it was still a damn good film.
I felt that it lasted too long after the twist and it was too predictable. It was decent but they kind of underdid the twist and that made it worse than it could've been.
