In the UK with our many single track country roads with high hedgerows, you're expected to drive at the speed where you can react and stop in time if a hazard suddenly presented itself, such as an oncoming driver (they have to do the same) or an animal ect. That's pretty much how it's officially worded. It's ambiguous, but you can't not be ambiguous with that scenario. If you have a dashcam or witnesses, they will be used to deem whether or not you were driving fit for the conditions.
A lot of these roads have a 60 mph limit as well. While main roads that you could actually do 60 on safely are limited to 40 or 50. Bloody rediculous sometimes.
Yeah, in VA you can be slapped with reckless completely without regard to what the conditions are if you do something "stupid". Drive two miles an hour over the posted speed limit in a light flurry? Reckless! Barely tap a police cruiser in front of you on the interstate when he stomps on the brakes to cut across the median? Reckless! Drive 11 over on the interstate by mistake? Reckless!

Haha. It's actually not terrible. I joke, but most cops in our area along 81 couldn't give two shits. Unless you're doing something worth their quota, they'll usually let you go so long as you're not doing much more than about ten over. Plus they're the worst tailgaters of the bunch while texting or fiddling with their computers. But, if you wreck, and you're the one who caused it, you get hit. Hard. Especially if it's rainy and you get that trooper's ridiculous hat wet.

Which would be ten over 70?
Is it 70 there? It's 65 in NY on the Thruway and 55 elsewhere but that wouldn't surprise me.
I don't drive 95, so I wouldn't know there. But I-81 is 70 from West Va line (it's 70 in WV and 65 in MD) to TN line, except for between mm 118 to 150 (65 and 60), 220 to 227 (65), 240 to 260 (60), and from 285 to 290 (65). And yes, I clearly drive too much up and down the worst Interstate in our area.
Roughly how big is this engine again? And how much HP and tq? It's been awhile, very interesting!
Roughly how big? I have no idea since the ultimate block dimensions basically revolve around how small i can make the cam box assembly. Although if i had to guess, we're talking maybe 3 feet wide by 1.5 foot tall. But it'll be mounted flat under the trunk floor because the crank directly drives the ring gear in the differential. So hey, the heated trunk is a feature i guess. I'm afraid the cam box might end up being kinda big though. I'm using a stationary swinging arm that the cam acts on halfway between the arm's rotation axis and the valve tappet to minimize the mechanical complexity, but the height of the arm/rocker will probably end up being kinda big. But the only real alternitive is some super complicated bullshit like this. [T]http://www.autolexicon.net/obr_clanky/cs_valvetronic_001.jpg[/T] So yeah. If i had BMW's R&D resources and foundries, i'd optimise the hell out of it all. But i'm building this for my own perverse amusement and so i can confuse the ever loving shit out of people at car shows so fuck it. Not having a lumpy trunk floor isn't worth the extra 25,000 dollars in parts, patterns and castings Also for power figures, now that i've refined some dimensions, given a half peak pressure figure on a piston with 16.25 square inches of "active" surface area including the piston rings, we're talking about 7500 pounds of force acting on the piston. Although if you were "stalling on the converter" as it were, you'd peak at 12,100ish pounds of force on the piston. And given that ft pounds is taking a foot of leverage into account, given a 7 inch stroke for maximum expansion, ballpark peak 15,000-20,000 ft pounds of torque at the crank. But it'd be geared down 1-3 through the diff so it'd be around 2000 peak ft pounds at the wheels including a rough 10% frictional loss, which is probably super overkill. Also for horsepower, you can't really equate steam horsepower to ICE horsepower. This thing makes like 75 horsepower tops at 100PSI, but it can pull a sled that would stonewall a 3000 horsepower pulling tractor with 5 blown big block chevies on it. That said, using the old school p.l.a.n. formula they used on locomotives and stationary engines, it makes roughly 250 horsepower. Although that's more dependant on the steam generator's output than the actual engine. Although my valve design should optimize the generator's output as much as possible. And with a 2.25 internal diameter high pressure steam pipe, you got a peak flow of around 36,000 pounds of steam/water at 750PSI, which is way the fuck more than a car sized generator could ever produce. So no matter how free flowing my engine is, the generator is still the limiting factor in the high end power output. Although just like you'd never redline a car in 1st on the highway, peak flow rate is just sort of a practically meaningless figure in real world circumstances. And even if i could make a generator that could fit in an old ass english car and be able to match that peak flow figure, the condenser would have to be something the size of a quarry truck radiator to keep up, so that's another limiting factor for range/fuel efficiency at the very least. Honestly, if you managed to cram some big old hoosiers onto it, this thing would probably be really great at a drag strip. It'd probably be the only place you could possibly begin to get all that torque out on the ground.
Where I live there's a highway that has a 55 mph speed limit. But nobody fucking pays attention to it, you could be going 65 and people will still be passing you :v: It's not like its the odd person speeding, it's a good 60% of people that speed that much
I'm glad that in the UK we've got pretty standard speed limits wherever you go Motorway speed limit is 70 but pretty sure everyone who's under 70 years old goes 85
Absolutely every road around here that is more then 1 lane either way, you are positively sure to see a speeder. I always do the max max at 5 over and regularly get passed. The only way I don't is if I speed, and I don't like to because 4th gear starts to wind the engine out at 45. 50mph normally has it running around 1700 with 60mph @ 2krpm solid. I'd love a 5th gear...
Does anyone know if CAA is worthwhile to save insurance? Its $70 a year.

theres an old highway with a 45 mph limit nearby but it's a big 10 mile long straightaway so the traffic flows about 60 miles per hour
Had some fun with the Celica passenger door. I picked up some steel at Lowe's after work and splattered it all together. Tacked the horizontal piece, Starting the vertical piece, And welded it all in.. can't say as I'm a good welder. At this point I ran out of flat stock to finish it off with another horizontal piece that'll be ready to fold the door skin over. Little filler piece to tack in tomorrow Then I went on to the other door since I was out of work on that one until I grab another metal strip. Started filling the mirror holes.. but I ran out of welding gas. Gr So I moved on to stripping the fenders. The passenger fender had way more bondo in it than I thought.. it's actually pretty rough I buzzed it all out on the front.. looks like someone tried to stud gun these dents? But obviously failed horribly. These areas were allll bondo. I'm gonna try to metal work them semi-flat tomorrow. But I've never been a panel beater and don't have a stud gun/ slide hammer... If it fails horribly I may just buy a new one.. there's ONE on ebay for just under $250. Might be worth just to avoid all the nonsense.

I fried my Fenix UC35. I guess its time for the TK20R. Damnit I'm suppose to be buying go fast parts not fucking replacement equipment.

I've been paying $41.10 a month for my SRT-4 on full coverage, and last month my insurance took out $289.70 for what I assumed would be 6 months of coverage (Even though that's way over $41.10 a month) and are also charging me $144.85 next month for something, but I can't figure out what the hell is going on. Did the raise my rates by $100 a month or something!? I've literally never been pulled over or in a reported accident.
Heh. Im 22, no accident, tickets, anything. My insurance was $170 a month for just my Xterra before I got their little road spy thing, which I scored well on and knocked it down to 140. I'm supposed to have a 30% off for 3 yrs of safe driving (had my license since '11), but that hasn't been granted yet. Fuck you flow, you cunt.

The place I was gonna order a motor from won't be getting any more of them until the 11th of March so I'm stuck waiting for another couple weeks before I can even order it. I don't even feel like looking at the car now, maybe this week I'll bother to go to the junkyard and pull some wiring and find some axle ends so I can roll the car around without ruining the wheel bearings. I ordered parts for it too, now I'm pissed since I get to stare at parts for like two weeks that I can't use yet. I have no idea what I'm gonna do if they don't get any in their next shipment.

I contacted Fenix support and we went back and forth shooting the bullshit (His name was saul so i had to do the better call saul jokes), apparently they never had this kind of failure ever. Got to talk to the head engineer or some kind of head job spent afew min diagnosing stuff and apparently I royally fucked her. Fenix send me a prepaid box and they are genuinely interested in looking at how it failed. I already like this company. Not because "uuuugh gotta accept back this broken product" but instead "How the fuck did you kill our flashlight!?!?! Send it to us because we wanna dissect it!!!"

When I asked them why, they put me on hold for a little bit and then came back and said the average cost of claims in my area are going up. I'm thinking of just saving up to the state minimum and getting rid of insurance.
