Hey now. Don't knock the Baja. The Baja will always have a special place in my nostalgia heart, what with its laughably unusable bed and bland as absolute dirt interrior, and weak and powerless motor. That thing still can go basically anywhere it damn well pleases.
Lmao, it's my friend's.
We've used it to haul so much shit with the bed extender, it's ridiculous.
That stupid car is the best.

Thanks mang.
I can't wait to get back to driving and working on the other little things.
I really need a paintjob, too.
Ahhhhhh someone hold me
I found a racing company that claims to own the ORIGINAL moulds for the BMW PTG GTR racecar.

If only
So I contacted the company.
They require me so sign an NDA, and a part that mentions I'm not allowed to copy the parts etc. I'm also not allowed to mention any prices.
:v:
Are we talking $, $$ or $$$
Race BMW is coming along amazingly.
Although I cant imagine putting expensive body panels onto a race car.. the first fender rub on the track would have me crying.
Here's something of substance from me;
Things were coming along,

Then we emptied the garage today..

So that prime could go on the panels Ive been working on. First it was epoxy on all the metal pieces.

Which is shiny when wet.. and I got a good look at the doors, and how the body work appears to have turned out

Followed by high build.. which I used my new 2.5 tip gun for. Much better than the 1.7 tip which was basically unsprayable without thinning it.

Also stripped the parts car of most of the useful stuff and sent it to the junkyard. Payout was.. $50. Would've made a better lawn ornament if the city allowed.

That's looking dope!
I'm gonna stick with rattlecans for now.
Thinking of wetsanding the paintjob, then buffing it out for a smoother finish. What do you guys think?

That's really strange. You can put "hey dumbass don't copy the parts" in some sort of contractual agreement on purchase if they want, but that's already covered if they actually own any part of the patterns. Design, IP, patents, whatever. But not allowing talking about the prices?
Seems shady as hell, i'd move on.
If I wasn't 100% sure that they were the actual company that co-built the cars with BMW then yeah it is shady as fuck.
But my local BMW Motorsports division directed me to them for these carbon parts.
[editline]9th June 2017[/editline]
So I was prepping to clearcoat the carbon roof

But when I applied paint...this happend....

It just DOES NOT flow together at all.
I tried everything, lots of small coats. One very thick coat as in the picture. Nothing did the trick. All gave this result more or less.
Can anyone explain to me what the hell I'm going wrong? :v:
keep adding till it stops soaking. you already missed your chance to do it the easy way.
I tried that, but then it gets so thick it starts becoming a white blurry mess.
I'm pretty sure the clearcoat isn't supposed to be 5mm thick lol
if you can sand it back without sanding into the carbon fiber then you may have some luck with clear epoxy primer

The black one is the new one (number plate since transferred).
Too many Lotuses, RIP my financial future.
Also no I didn't get a new one just because of the colour - Upgraded from a 1.6L 138bhp to a 1.8 supercharged ~220bhp. Driving it the difference is like night and day.
Yeah I can sand it back quite a bit. I'll try that. Thanks

why would you buy two of the most impractical car ever made?
I figured having 2 impractical cars would cancel out the impracticality, like a double negative.
I guess if you towed one of them you could use it as a trailer if you ever wanted to carry something bigger than a football
why would you buy two of the most impractical car ever made?
Because racecar
I've got to buy a new exhaust for it but I have no idea where to start because SV3Power stopped making the one I was going to buy.
Me too. I've just resigned myself to getting a new header back system from a local muffler place.
Me too. I've just resigned myself to getting a new header back system from a local muffler place.
Shit. I don't have very much in the way of muffler shops :saddowns:

My flexpipe and cat are rusted to pieces, which is why I'm doing the whole thing.
Could always go open headers....

Baja's are incredibly versatile.
Aside from the bed extender, the back seat is a pass through. Perfect for bikes, skiis, tables, etc.
A topper is available to give you weatherproof storage.
I like the interior, and the motor is decent on power. They did offer the Turbo with nearly twice the power.
Because racecar
Yeah,
I've driven with a few on trackdays, and they are proper fast.
the best universal aftermarket exhaust kit on the market is called sawzall
Some cars are not made to be straight piped. I heard a new wrx with a straight pipe and it sounded like hot garbage

i haven't heard a new wrx that i've liked yet. rip unequal headers. inefficiency never sounded so good.

I wouldn't know I've never owned anything with less than 8 cylinders that wasn't turbo for more than a few hours
A new one joined the fleet today
