Here's hoping some of y'all know about motorcycles too
About to buy a 1991 Suzuki GS 500E with a ton of gear for $1200. It has 12k miles and looks pretty nice, good tread, recent oil change, comes with extra brake pads. Anyone have any tips on what I should look for during the inspection and when I test ride it?
What gear are you getting with it? Don't use a pre-owned helmet, even a drop from 3-feet can introduce micro-cracks into the helmet's protective layering that neuter the protective capabilities in a crash. Jacket/pants are fine as long as they have CE pads at joints and preferably on the back. I also recommend buying full size boots instead of ankle boots, but gear is a personal decision, so.
As far as the bike goes:
Check tire tread and bake pad depth.
Make sure the clutch cable has little/no slack, same for BOTH brake cables.
Make sure the brake cables and clutch cable appear in good enough condition (plastic tubing starts to deteriorate after like ~6 yrs or 10k miles).
Check the gas tank inside for rust.
Most bikes come with a little tool kit under the seat (at least my Ninja did), it isn't too important but it can have a few hard-to-find tools that make your life easier.
Make sure that it shifts through all its gears smoothly .
Make sure the rear wheel is on straight and that the chain has only 3/4" to 1.25" slack, not excessively tight or loose.
Make sure that the rotors aren't warped.
Make sure it starts and idles relatively cleanly (should idle easily between 1000-1500RPM).
Make sure the choke lever works.
That's all I can really think of. Someone else might chime in.
Well, got my truck inspected today. Had to rewire the tag lights quick, replace the clutch master cylinder, and replace my radiator cap. All-in-all, not bad for a 30-year-old truck.
But, now to relearn the clutch, again, on my first standard vehicle not even a week after I got the thing. Yeah. That was pretty trying to drive off today from work when it was done. :v:
I contacted Fenix support and we went back and forth shooting the bullshit (His name was saul so i had to do the better call saul jokes), apparently they never had this kind of failure ever. Got to talk to the head engineer or some kind of head job spent afew min diagnosing stuff and apparently I royally fucked her.
Fenix send me a prepaid box and they are genuinely interested in looking at how it failed. I already like this company. Not because "uuuugh gotta accept back this broken product" but instead "How the fuck did you kill our flashlight!?!?! Send it to us because we wanna dissect it!!!"
Only you could break a flashlight so badly that they had to investigate it

Bought a digital caliper today. Cant believe we dont have one laying around. Cheap and is going to make life a lot easier
Air conditioner is down in the Toyota. :suicide:
Praying to god that it's just out of R134a and not a broken condenser. I can't drive a dark car with untinted windows in Florida with no A/C and windows that are on the fritz.
Worked fine when I went to Publix in the afternoon, but when I went to work 3 hours later it was spewing out hot air and the A/C button wouldn't light up. Belt looks fine and all the fuses (that I could find) look fine, but I was also checking them in the middle of my lunch break.

The cheap China ones eat batteries for breakfast.
Would be sweet if they used a rechargeable cell and a dedicated charger
Just came across something rather interesting

Renault Twingo engine swapped RX-8
:what:
Buy it and TDI swap it.
It'll be the opposite of how it came from the factory then.
Replacing high-revving thirsty engine for a fairly economical tractor engine.
I'm glad that in the UK we've got pretty standard speed limits wherever you go
Motorway speed limit is 70 but pretty sure everyone who's under 70 years old goes 85
There's speed cameras EVERYWHERE on motorways these days so I just do 70 because going any faster isn't worth losing my license. 6 points within 2 years of getting your license and your out, and speeding is a min of 3 points.

Got my power steering pump today... The only thing I'm wondering is why the fuck did they ship it full of fluid. The bag it's in is full of fluid now
This is just so beautiful, I'm so tempted to go take a serious look.

Question for Valon or any other Canuckistani people here, or anyone who has gone through a similar process:
Theoretically, how hard, or is it possible, to go up to Canada with a trailer, get a nonrunning vehicle, and bring it back state side?
There is a guy with a challenger t/a hulk in alberta somewhere that my dad showed me on a fb group that he'd really like to nab as a project car, and we got curious about how it'd be possible.
Probably won't happen since we're 2500 miles away, but still. :v:
I think theres more hastle buying stuff in the US and bringing it back home than there is getting stuff from us. So long as you state you business at the border, back it up with the ad and the guys number/whatever else, declare the cash you'll have for the car, and then provide the bill of sale and secure the car properly you should be fine.
If its a good price go for it! They're really rare cars and even if you put it in storage for the next 30 years its only going to be worth more.
[editline]1st March 2017[/editline]
Border security is really good at finding out if you're lying or not, my cousin picked up a 67 barracuda from detroit and they found the AD online, they questioned why he got it for $3000 less than it was posted for so he had to state that he worked a deal out over the phone.

I mean obviously not
I took a pic next to a lemon fermenter and no one noticed a thing.
