I found a good image from an event earlier in the month that really highlights the crazy elevation change of Palmer Motorsports park. I've read it has the highest change of any circuit in the US currently.

Also there is a gallery of the Novice group, with one of the best pics being this one. Just press X to see the rest of the gallery, it's 3 pages worth. There is also pics of the other 2 groups if you have nothing else to do but admire car photos.
Anyway, My Miata friend Ian Cook has been pulled from the waitlist............to race in the Climb To The Clouds Hillclimb [AKA Mt.Washington Hillclimb].
If you can support even $5 it will go towards something. Maybe he'll put your name on his car, and you can say you too climbed the mountain. The race is July 6th-9th this year, leaving only a few weeks. Apparently it only happens every 3 years, so all the more I hope he can make the most of the opportunity.
wanna talk about le mans? toyota seems to jinx themselves out again
eugh fuck me today was like ricer-central for cars, seriously every intersection and highway ... those Nissan 300zx's which a beautifully done custom exhaust (sounded awesome) and had a turbo, you could hear the waste gate when he opened the throttle
You cant hear when a wastegate opens. Its usually open slightly at all times.
Speaking of wastegates. I am a couple days out from receiving my money for some work so i can spend money on car stuff. I could now, with no issue but ive been going about 2 years having a nice cushion of money instead of being broke and i like it better that way, so i budgeted this job specifically to put this engine back together. Still waiting tho. Ive been doing this stuff a long time without shaking people down for money. But i may have to.
Serj, do you still make roof racks?
Serj, do you still make roof racks?
If you ask him to make one for the merc I swear to god it better have a hater pipe built into it.
I wonder what a roof rack would look like on a vic 🤔

If you can't hear a waste-gate when it opens, then explain why I heard it? I was two cars down from him when he near floored it when the light went green, when he let off the throttle (which was about 2 seconds later) I heard a faint "FSHHHH" come from his car. Nothing around me could have made such a distinctive sound as a waste-gate does.

Not the 71, it'll be for a gasser if we do it.
Serj, do you still make roof racks?
I can make a lot of stuff. I quit making roof racks because there were a few chinese import companies that made them way cheaper. And i had a few clients bail before final payment. I kept half of the cost up front but it typically only covered materials and some of my time. People didnt want to pay what they were worth. The economic equilibrium of the product wound up being $150a rack because thats what people would pay. I wasnt making money like that. Margins were too small. The JapRat crowd were surprisingly my best clients.
But if you need a rack or any other thing made we can talk.

Me and a buddy are tossing around the idea of picking up a fintail merc this summer. Surely going to want a roof rack made for her if we do. We'll talk to you first.

The waste gate controls the allowance of exhaust heat/pressure into the turbo to keep it from spooling indefinitely. It controls the boost pressure, typically opening after it reaches a certain pressure, but will typically bleed before that. It bypasses the pressure into the downpipe behind the turbo. It goes into the exhaust. You never hear it working.
A blow off valve goes off when the throttle blade closes and there is a large amount of pressure sitting in the charge pipe with nowhere to go (cant go into the engine) in that case it would typically shoot back through the turbocharger giving you the Choo Choo tiss tiss soundas it slows the turbine. A blow off valve allows the pressure to bleed off if it overcomes the blow off spring. On stock cara with turbo, its bled into the intake pipe so you dont hear anything. On modified we typically bleed it into atmosphere so you hear the Tisssssss.

I might get a rack done for the beetle sooner or later
speaking of locks, I once had the locking mechanism come out of the door of my Golf 3 with the key after unlocking it once.
Luckily it was on the passenger side so I wasn't in much of a rush to replace it.
[editline]19th June 2017[/editline]
It was pretty funny, just pull the key out and the lock comes with it
Took the fuel rail off the PT.

:ohno:
....Are you serious?? Guys. I'm so tired of buying cars and fixing shit the previous owners fucked up. This is just the story over and over again. Why can't people just fix things the right time. This is probably why the car always idled like crap. May have been the cause of the head gasket blowing, probably leaned out on that cylinder.
just decap em
just decap em
Luckily these are pocket sized things. I'll go to the junkyard.
or... I could put my 1025cc injectors sitting on my desk into my Neon and use the stockers for the PT.
I went to visit my parents yesterday for Father's Day. That involves a lot of flat desert driving bracketed by some extreme climbing on either side. It was 110 degrees out and I was running late so I was doing 100 the whole way. The car never once broke a sweat, though I certainly did.
On the train now on my way home from seeing the lawyer in oslo. He says i got a great chance to win this thing and if i do i can maybe get the lawyer cost covered

Front wheel bearing and hub is a 1hr job on pretty much any car. If your haggling with a mechanic bring the hub and bearing to them and ask. Typically the lower tie rod knuckle is detached, brake caliper removed, lower control arm bolt, top one, yank cv out and replace the parts.
If there are any Connecticut FPer's on here that can space a couch and shower for two nights this week, shoot me a PM. Preferably if you're within an hour or so of Mohegan Sun, I'll be attending a dealership event thing there to babysit their cars for testdrives. Not associated with them or anything, just coordinated with the local SCCA.
If not, I'll just sleep at a rest stop or something, I'll make it. Worst case I just drive back home each night, or to Cambridge for my grandma's.

About 2.3 hours to get it done. It has a snap ring to retain it but rust will likely require it to be pressed out along with the hub from the bearing.
The actual cost varies from shop to shop, but its gonna range from 90 something to close to 200 because of the work, then what ever the labor time ends up being.
Here is the sploded infos:
