Just back from a quick trip to Germany (The BMW museum!)

Some absolute highlights of my trip :
E30 M3 DTM
What else do I need to say?

E46 GTR
So not a E46 M3 or anything, but a real GTR. This exact car won the 24h

P54 motorsports engine
2.0 litre engine made for the E46 touringcars based on the M54 platform. (Which I'm racing with!) Took LOTS of photo's of this just to see what they did.

S50B32 & S54B32
Absolutely beautiful to see brand spanking new rare engines like this. I ran with the 3.0 litre version of the engine on the left (S50B30). Hopefully one day I'll be racing with the one on the right. (S54B32)

And visited the museum of modern design and architecture. Had some great cars on display too!

The BAD news...they didn't have the E36 GTR...or E36 STW...it wasn't in their Classics collection too (Building with guided tours only)
All in all, it was totally worth it tho!

Baby Driver is so good! See it!

Hurray!
An innocent man proven not-guilty!

The police will have a two week time limit to see if they accept the verdict or not. After the two weeks have gone it will be absolute final and I can send in a request to have all fees and wverything covered. Just gotta wait a bit first.

A bunch of guys in my local Subaru club went to see it.
I've seen the commercials, but it just seems like a FNF knockoff that i might as well wait for to hit NetFlix/Hulu.
Is it actually a thing of its own, or a FNF knockoff thats generic?
I plan to watch it on Hulu/Netflix because Subaru, though may see sooner if its that good.

It's the opposite of FnF movies. Where FnF is stupid ridiculous over the top action, Baby Driver is brilliant smaller scale driving. It is action, yes, but it's all pretty damn realistic(except for the fact that the Subaru didn't explode a gasket :v:). Also that Subaru is only there for the first 10 minutes or so. I don't know why the marketing focused so heavily on it.
It's a huge cut above Fast and the Furious lowest common denominator trash. It's also directed by the same guy as the Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Worlds End).
It's one of the most intense movies I've ever seen. I felt like I ran a mile after it ended. I wouldn't recommend seeing it if you have a pacemaker.
The soundtrack is A++. This is licensing big songs for a purpose. Every song works perfectly in its place and contributes to the movie. I cannot recommend this movie highly enough.

But can it compete with the likes of Drive and Deathproof? Even though Le Mans and Rush aren't comparable, since they are more documentary/realistic type driving movies, they are some of the best theatrical driving movies I've seen period.

Personally, I think it does compete with the greats, yes.
I gotta say guys, I think car design is finally coming out of the slump it was in for so long. My mom recently got a Lexus GS and the newer version of the 'predator grille' looks surprisingly good in person. I also saw a new Mazda6 (the sedan) on the road today, and I was taken aback by how good it looked, especially since I didn't like the mockups when they posted them originally. That styling would look drop dead gorgeous on a new RX. The new WRX alright too, and the new facelifted 86/BRZ looks great in person too (saw one on the road today as well). Plus the new Camaro, Corvette, Viper, Mustang, hell, even the new Charger all look really good. The only ugly new cars I can think of off the top of my head are the new Toyota econoboxes (and I actually think the new Prius looks pretty good, but the Camry and friends... Eugh). Even those will probably improve as they're iterated on. What do you guys think?

I will say that fake exhaust tips and stupid plastic fake vents need to die though.

That's awesome. I really like that generation of Stang especially the 99+, shame everyone rags on them so most of them are total beaters.
Either I discovered the magical spot the dryer hides socks....or I left those socks I installed in the air intake over the winter to keep any possible critters out. I'm going with magical dryer sock stash.
Can't believe I didn't notice any real issues, been running strong no problem. I guess it wasn't really blocking air flow in that case, but they are stained red like the K&N filter I put in it (stock setup still). I mean it has survived 4 trackdays and 2 autocross this year, so maybe the socks actually give me power?

Oh god maybe this is why my AC sucks. Time to tear apart the dash and find magical sock land
Removing my front license plate improved my A/C quite a bit, it used to pretty much stop working at 85f+ and now it will actually manage to cool 90f+ even if it takes a while.

I use a sock as an air filter on my compressor. so long as it doesn't get sucked into the motor it's fine
Apparently I've been put on a surprise trip to Europe by my mom in 3 weeks. Going to be in Paris and it's only a 5 hour train ride from there to the Nurburgring... Tempted to see if I can take a day trip away from the rest of my family to the ring and spend a few hours running it in one of those rental 86s.

I feel like your life will change going to the Ring, if it's your first time. I know mine would....I have so many dreams about going, and I'm hoping next year I'll have the money to do so.
Here is a decent list of the rental companies around the ring, if you haven't already looked in to them. They let in on all the details regarding their cars, so you can really choose the best 86 for you. I think I would probably choose a caged car on semi-slocks or full slicks, although even just driving a decently fast street BMW like the M2 or older M3 would make my day.
That same website lists some big private trackdays, maybe you can time it to sign up for one of those. A lot more expensive, but you get to use the whole track and can get instruction, as well as free recovery if the worst happens. Public days can sometimes be totally unpredictable, which is why I'd personally prefer to do a private trackday there, even if it's 2-3x the cost.
All of you are welcome to come chill with me at the garage in the Netherlands! It's a 4 hour drive from the ring tho.
If by that time my car is ready ya'll are welcome to come along to a trackday.
In other news, I had my first customer today...kind of?
Some guy with a E36 racecar came all the way from the other side of the country to see me and see if I could fix his ECU issues. I did, and the car runs great now.
Feels weird :v:
[editline]4th July 2017[/editline]
He had a really cool E36 which he completely modified to look like a E46 M3.

unfortunately i'll only be able to go to the ring probably aug 1-4, and it looks like there's no trackday scheduled for then :( i would much rather prefer a track day than a normal touristfarting but i'll take what i can get. i talked to the trip nazi (my mother) about it and she's okayed me skipping out on one of the days to go to the ring, so it's happening, i just have to figure out the details. I feel like semislicks would be better than slicks for a first time around the ring, since they let go more progressively, but we'll see. im definitely going to be doing a lot of touristfarting in assetto corsa and iracing in order to prepare.
obviously as a car enthusiast and wannabe racecar driver going to the ring is a bucket list item, so i'm getting super hyped up about it.
So the durango computer issue is solved. I decided to hunt around the harness with a meter. But before that i tried my code reader. All it would say is no connection. I figured thats definitely the ecu. Well i traced some wires around the ecu harnesses. One lead over the right valve cover and down to a ground on a bolt holding the power steering pump on. I removed the pump to replace the freeze plug that was leaking right behind it about 4 months ago. The bolt was kinda loose and had two large ground loops from the ecu on it. I started the car, it stayed running. I went out to the engine, and wiggled the ground. Car immediately died. I started it again. Went out, wiggled the ground. Car died. I figured this was the issue. I took the thing out, put loctite on it, put it back in and tightened it down. Car stayed running. I assume this was the reason for randomly starting or not. If that ground was the least bit loose the car wouldnt start. So that was that.

Deathproof was straight garbage. Previews made it out to be a guy who was somehow immune to injury and the car had some magical survivability but in reality was about a guy commiting multiple acts of vehicular homicide intentionally.

Things are looking bright for this purchase. I gotta wait until next weekend though since my dad can't join me on the trip this weekend. I just gotta call the seller tomorrow and see if he's okay with waiting another week. If he is, then I'll definitely buy it next weekend.
I don't really have any real life friends so I don't really have anyone else to ask either :v:

This is a more complete list, but yeah, even then there seems to be no early-August events booked. I think the majority of the motorsports world (regardless if it's an actual racing series or just a trackday club) takes the traditional "Summer break", starting around the last week of July and going to the 3rd or 4th week of August.

Idk I like how Tatantino did a lot of storytelling to set up the scenes. I felt the first phase of him killing was awesome, and the second phase was awesome too, but the ending where he is shown to still be human and the three girls beat the shit out of him did kind of result in an anticlimactic ending. But still, you gotta appreciate all the crazy stunts that happened in the movie...I mean imagine being strapped to the hood. That shit was mostly real, as well as a good portion of the rest of the stunts.

Yeah, I'll probably just do a touristfarting for about 10 laps.
Something disappointing is that it looks like pretty much every rear-wheel-drive car available for rent has a 25 year minimum age for renting/driving. I'm only 21 so the only choice I have is apparently the stripped and caged Suzuki Swift.

Shit, I don't think I've ever noticed age restrictions, and I've been eyeing all the sites for some time now. I'll be 25 this January anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter for me. But I've definitely heard of shit like that for normal rental cars. I guess I don't know why it wouldn't be the same or similar for track cars.
I've heard good things about the Swift though. You probably could even outdrive a few Porsches if you play your cards right. It definitely is quite an experience to drive a caged car though. I've only been a passenger in every one I've been in (which is probably more than 5-10 cars at this point), but even then it was always amazing.
Oh you shut up, deathproof was just fine
Nah. Planet Terror was a masterpiece. Deathproof was a mess. But ill agree with the earlier statement of playing ships mast at the end. That was good. Also the name deathproof had nothing to do with the movie except for the guy being a stuntman or something.
