Holy shit :v:
Perks of living in LA I guess. That is really cool. I don't know if I fully believe he got it for $500, seems a bit low even for a crazy movie car with little practicality.
There are two AMC Eagle wagons for sale around me, one's in really good shape... I wish I hadn't just spent like a grand on bed stuff

Welcome to the Saab Squad, what model is it?
Big news as far as my 900 goes. Made it home the 1800 miles from Savannah GA to Portland ME. Picked up all the bits for the summer project on it. A set of seats from a 9000 aero, and a 900 turbo parts car. Ruby's been NA for far too long, it's motor will go in asap. The parts car ran and the engine feels amazing, why the hell didn't I go after a 900 Turbo from the get go???

if I was to keep a list like that it would be 20 miles long

I just added one. '94 Toyota Pickup for a grand. Rusty (because 90s Toyota in the Midwest) but it would be fun to take on minimum maintenance roads, carry stuff, and to wrench on. Its a 25 year old truck, doesn't have to be pretty. Plus it was a stick.
Just can't justify it between existing car payment (and eventually needing winter tires), and student loans. Plus the fact that it may need other work.

tell me about it.
my favorite car of all time is an aussie classic, the holden hq. my dad had dozens of these cars over the years, so many at one point he had to cut one up with an angle grinder and take it to the dump :v:
10-15 years ago you could get them for like $400 usd. nowadays any sedan hq goes for $14000 usd, minimum here. basically my chance of ever getting one is minimal because they're only going up in price :c

Interior still needs a clean but regardless I think it's nice as fuck
Apart from some minor paint scratches and a tiny tiny dent on the back the exterior is in perfect condition.
I don't like the wheels too much but my dad has a set of extra SAAB alloy rims at his workshop but they're a difference size, so once I use up this set of tires I'll swap em
Welp, looks like one of my two Miata buddies won't be making it to race Climb To The Clouds/Mt.Washington Hillclimb. He just posted an hour ago his still has work left to do, and isn't even at the mountain. There is a mandatory rookie run he will miss, so it's all done before it even started.
Hopefully my other buddy won't have any woes like he did. He probably is at the mountain and all ready to go, last I saw he was getting a tow in a huge trailer, courtesy of a friend with a truck.
I'll be going tomorrow at some point, gonna have to camp out to make it for the 7AM shuttle to the "Signal corps" viewing spot, about half way up the mountain. I don't have a fancy camera or anything unfortunately. But if I can convince someone to let me borrow their's for a few pics, I'll do that and post them. doubt they will be any good though.
But yeah, this should be quite an adventure. First hurdle is not getting lost on the way there; should be about 2.5hrs of driving. The next hurdle would be seeing if I packed enough of a variety of clothing for whatever wonky conditions may arise on the mountain.
I don't mean to be an asshole, but why do you have a PT?
I honestly hate those goddamn things, and everyone I know who's ever driven one agrees.
It's a GT Cruiser, I got it for almost nothing. Gets 26mpg making over 230whp. I honestly thought I was going to hate, but nope. Love the car. SUPER practical, very cheap for parts, and it's kind of a sleeper. Drag racing SN95 Mustangs is hilarious.
How about this, when I find the time, I will make a comparison video of my SRT-4 and PT Cruiser. I know one is a Neon and the other is a PT Cruiser. But dollar for dollar, the PT Cruiser blows a lot of cars away for the performance, insurance, and reliability.
I didn't realize the model lettering on my trunk was dryrotted when I was going to take it off, and the E broke in half when I was trying to take it off before painting.
I am the proud new owner of a 2000 Nissan Sentra GXF

I'd say my Yamahammer Virago 250 runs like a raped ape, but it's so small it's more like a molested marmoset.

What should I use to make the letters black again?

Either exacto knife some tape and use spray paint, or break out the permanent markers.

My '80 CX500 probably compares nicely to something along the lines of a statutory raped spider monkey then

just a black fine tip paint marker would work fine
Fucking one more week and I can afford to drop the car at the shop for new oil seals and a two month overdue oil change. Of course this turns into the hottest week of the year so far so the oil pressure light is constantly turning on.
Fuck if I could afford just to fit a throwaway filter and 5L of oil for just a week.

Brush paint on it as messy as you want, then wipe the excess off the chrome with a rag and your done. Thats how recessed lettering is done.

I didn't see the other solutions yet but I took the sharpie suggestion

I'll definitely do this when the sharpie eventually fades. I have a squeegee I can use for that

Is that a crushed XJ6? That's really sad :(
God dammit. Beetle's turn signal handle just kinda died yesterday. Tried to fix it but as soon as I opened it the insides kinda disintegrated
Alrighty. No more photobucket.. we're going to try imgur.

Clear coat.. I like using Sherwin Williams DC5020 on my 'nice' projects.. seems to build well and lays out nice. 3 fairly heavy coats at about 30 psi on the regulator, looks great when it's in the 70s.. it was about 80 when I was spraying. Haven't found a single sag in the car!! I usually have one little one hiding somewhere.

I'm absolutely ecstatic with the body work. Everything looks straight, can barely find a wrinkle anywhere. I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never tried to straighten a car this banged up!
Since everything looked so amazing I decided this one deserved to be wetsanded and buffed. Soooo tonight I took sandpaper to my fresh clearcoat. Gah

As it goes I started with 800 grit, then to 1000, then 1500.. and then my back said ENOUGH!! I did a timing belt / water pump on that Eclipse this after noon, swapped a fuel sending unit in a '71 Charger, and diagnosed/bypassed a PassLock 2 issue in an Impala before I started sanding this evening. Ran out of steam. Tomorrow it's finishing up on 1500 grit and on to 2000! Then we break out the new buffer my roommate bought. a DA with brand new pads and compounds from Chemical Brothers. Very excited (and a little nervous to burn through by accident once I start buffing..)
You are some kinda fucking magician with this stuff dude, it looks awesome.

Alright, so this rust-oleum white paint job is going pretty nice, but quick question:
When I get around to painting door jambs and other really complex corners, can I just use Rust-Oleum white gloss spray paint for those areas? Will it interact oddly with my normal mineral spirits + rustoleum white mixture since one is an aerosol or will they be fine together?
It sounds kind of like a stupid question as I ask it but if there's a potential paint compatibility problem that exists, I sure as hell don't want to run into it.
Hey Clutch: When you go to copy the image link on imgur you can select image sizes in the lower right corner. Those images are massive and took a while to load.

Spray a test panel to know for sure. Like you said, there's always the chance of different paint 'systems' being incompatible and leading to things like wrinkling, etc.
