Can someone explain the me the bad rap Ford seems to have? I recently bought a Ford 2014 STX, Its a great truck, I love driving it, but 50% of the responses I get are "Too bad its a Ford" or "Its okay for a Ford I guess". I know you have these people for all different types of Brands but good lord I hear it all the time.
The truck I had before this one was a 2005 Ford XL and it went well over 220,000 miles with no Major problems. Sure it had the wear and tear you would expect but I can count on one hand how many times it broke down on me.
Well here's a answer from a chevy guy.
Ford is great, but only here recently. They finally stopped beating the dead horse of a triton motor and went over to the ecoboost's in 2008-2009 along with their new body style of trucks, and they have been rocking that ecoboost and making it fit into every application.
The long story if why people are GM fans are two very simple motors, the 350 and the LS. Virtually unkillable and are great in all the vehicles they are in. The early 2000's happened and triton motors were dying left and right and here GM's have 300+ k miles on them with only fuel pump and alternator replacements, after that it was hard for people to trust Ford once again over the lack of engineering.
But I do have to say Ford is the better of the current manufactures at this moment. They show to have more R&D into their vehicles compared to Chevy were it's just lets put a 8spd automatic behind this engine to lower emissions and keep the same ol engine design like we have since 1998.
The best generation of chey trucks is the 88-96 body style. 97-06 is okay, but all have tranny issues. 07-now you just don't touch. Older chevy trucks are amazing too, but they're classics and aren't around as much as the years I listed.
Honestly, thinking about it, this goes for almost all trucks.
Actually is more common for 88-92ish to have trans issues then the 92+ because they lacked transmission coolers. But the main reason is towing primarily.
The only issue with the 07+ish is about that time they started doing DOD and AFM which is horrible and will lead to nasty valve train issues.
Oh god, dod is gross. I mean, it saves a ~little~ on the highway but it's not worth the engine or trans wear.
Trans wear? The motor is spinning the same rate regardless.
But yeah the 4 dod cyclinders get major compression loss eventually.
DOD causing engine and trans wear... That's a new one I haven't heard yet.
DOD is great. Why run more cylinders than you need at cruising speed. It literally takes a fraction of a fraction of a second to turn the other cylinders back on.
Our 300s have had MDS in them and we've never had any issues with it, up to 160k with my moms 1st one before it got totalled by some dickhead. Our 2013 is too new to have been hit by any potential problems with it, but I doubt it would have gotten worse with the new models.
Didn't Fords, for a long time, like to chuck spark plugs from their engines? I've mainly heard of these common issues from CarComplaints.com and RepairPal.com. 2004 seemed the be the worst year for F-150s by a huge landslide.
In my own experience all Ford cars, especially trucks, that I've driven before 2010 were bags of suck. I hated driving a Ranger at my old auto parts delivery job. The Toyota Tacoma and even the fucking huge Chevy Silverado were much more enjoyable trucks in my book. The Ranger always had the most problems too. Perhaps it was partly down to the careless drivers that most frequently drove that particular Ranger, but still, I couldn't see anything good in that truck.
To me Ford didn't quite make acceptable cars until perhaps 2013. The main thing that has opened my eyes to their increase in quality was working a Ford promo tent at Barret Jackson Northeast last month. Spending ~8hrs for 3 days, among 5 different common models, I found that they really stepped up their game, especially with their trucks. I'm probably the biggest truck hater in this thread, and yet I found the F-150 enjoyable.

The spark plug gun was with the 5.4l (2v) and 6.8l Triton which I believe came down to improperly torqued spark plugs, which would damage the threads in the aluminum head, which would then give out under combustion pressure and pop your plugs right out of the engine, sometimes even through the hood. There were only 4 threads on these spark plugs, there really should be more.

The Ranger is a fleet truck, through and through. It sucks and it's supposed to suck.
Short lifespan, short replacement cycle. They're a bulk buy car.
Yeah Rangers can be nice if you find a well optioned one grandpa only used to tow a boat once in a while and otherwise was kept in a garage. Otherwise, all of the ones on the used market are dogged to shit.
A pal of mine is looking at trucks, I'm gonna try to steer him away from rangers as best I can just because of that.

My coworker has a v10 excursion on HUGE tires. I saw it sitting in the parking lot one morning after we had both closed up the previous night before, which was odd because he told me he wouldn't be in until the afternoon that day the previous day.
So I walk into the shop and this dude (my coworker) is passed out in our back room on the bench still in his workpants with his shirt off as a blanket and boots beside him. I immediately lose my shit laughing and startle him awake.
I ask what the fuck and apparently his truck chucked a few sparkplugs, advanced up the road was out, and his wife was out of town and was not able to pick him up (lives an hour away) so he just walked in and posted up until we got in to open up for the morning. Once it was my lunchtime i went and picked them up at autozone for him.
For this memory alone I have plenty of reasons to dodge ferd trucks of that era. :v:

The 4.6 does it too, I assure you.
Ford didn't put enough threads in the heads for the spark plugs combined with the spark plugs either being over tightened or under tightened making them wiggle which chewed up all 3 threads in the head
[editline]20th July 2017[/editline]
Maybe it was 4, either way.
Its not 48 hours to cure. Try more like 2 months for it to actually harden. Rustoleum in a spray can has non existant hardeners and has severe solvent crack (wrinkles) if you recoat outside the 5 minute recoat window or whatever time limit it is. You can actually spray rustoleum out of a can with a hardener that the company also sells. I thought thats how you were going about it. If it solvent cracked at all that paint will peel and fall apart.

Also installed new radio with DAB+, so I had to do a little disassembly to hide the antenna cable the best way.

Cute that both your cars have sun visors :cat:

Yeah, some of them liked to chuck spark plugs. The 5.4 is well known for having plugs that come apart when you try to remove them.
To me Ford makes really cheap, boring and ugly cars. A friend of mine has an older Focus and it just feels really cheap to drive. And I never could figure out how to change tracks using the steering wheel controls.

Around the time the Mk1 and Mk2 Mondeo's and focus' were launched, to just before the Mk3 Mondeo was launched, EuroFord were really busy at fucking up.
Godawful plastic hell cars that rusted up even if you just looked at them the wrong way.
Need to borrow my dad's truck to haul some shit to the dump so we traded overnight. God his truck is such a POS, I know it's got 288k miles but it feels like it's about to fall apart at any time. The warped rotors aren't helping that feeling either. :v:

If you think warped rotors are bad, try out-of-round drums on a 10,000lb rig. I almost fell out of my seat from how bad the shaking was.
I'll need to buff my paint soon. The sandpaper I have at my disposal goes up to 3000 grit.I don't have a buffer and I haven't buffed or polished before. What exactly do I buy after that if I want to hand buff/polish my paint? All these different compounds and pads are confusing.
Maybe someone can help me with a question.
So I bought a Zeon 10-s winch seen here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAKFESS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also bought the Mopar official winch mounting plates here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OB8A47G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Now I can't get the fairlead to match up to the bumper or the mounting plate at all, and I'm getting sick and tired of cutting into shit. Will this match up and work with the fairlead?

To be fair it is a really cheap car.
Got new brakes and changed the front ones today:

Also these are new door sills made by the local.... dude who makes custom panels. 450 nok for them both. 2mm steel.
is that bauer line one of the "premium" products? I bought one of the rotary hammers and it was a supreme degree of shit so I returned it and went to the home depot for a makita. advertised same amps and nearly the same bpm but the makita hit way harder. the bauer half the time would just spit out the steel.
[editline]18th July 2017[/editline]
I still feel like the only tools worth buying at harbor freight are the more bulletproof air tools like scalers and such and micro drills. not a bad place to get tool steel blanks either. the grinders are good if you're the type who keeps a bunch of grinders loaded with different disks, like I have 3 harbor freight grinders with the less dangerous attachments, and a makita for zip disks
other than that the e clip assortment and the o ring assortment is handy to have around
[editline]18th July 2017[/editline]
oh and I've got a 7 inch grinder from there that I keep a diamond cup on for whenever I'm doing concrete. got no torque to it but if you get a running start it's got the rpm to give me a nice smooth finish
Bauer is higher end than what we used to carry, though not exactly a premium branding. It was a rebranding to bring in a massive new line of rotary hammers. The reviews on the new Bauers are a lot better than on our old ones, though i don't know how they are compared to other brands.
I keep thinking hockey equipment when y'all are talking about Bauer
I think of the shitty leather explorer trim package

Don't use sandpaper. Use a buffing compound and a cloth like cotton or a chamois.
question: do i need to take my car to the car doctor to replace my brake pads? i've got a new set for my lancer and i've got the tools at home if it's easy enough to fit them myself.

in the process of servicing my poor car and trying to do it as cheap as possible because i still gotta buy a new windscreen which i absolutely cannot do myself.
