Are the caps really vented though, or does it just leak through the threads? I guess the only time you really need to mess with that kind of stuff is if you like you decided to change the brake fluid right before you change your pads (I cracked the bleed nipple and bled them off after wards)
yeah they are vented, there's a little hole in the cap. It's actually the only reason you ever need to change your brake fluid, because the atmosphere gets water in the brake fluid and lowers the boiling point over time.

A itty bitty tiny bit of moisture does also creep into the system through the rubber sealing ring around caliper pistons.
I had a Golf3 that hasn't had its brake fluid flushed in over 10 years.
It was green in the back due to the tiny bit of water in it that was absorbed through the rear wheel cylinders, which that had reacted with the copper brake lines it was fitted with 10 years ago, and turned the fluid toxic green instead of the usual piss yellow.
So I have a problem going on. I want to buy another motorcycle and I find myself drawn to the Harley Davidson 48 Sportster, because I love the dual fat tires and bobber design, with a sufficiently large engine to boot. I feel like it's super over priced, but I can't think of anything that satiates that itch from any other price point. Anyone have any suggestions?

Moto Guzzi is known as being "Harley Davidson without breaking the bank"
the biggest concern with studes is finding body panels if you ever need them. nobody does repros afaik and junkyards are useless for stuff that old. if it runs and drives already there's not really anything you have to do.

he'll probably have a bit better luck than my missus' dad, he's got a conestoga and an early gen avanti, and let me tell you that studes are rare as fuck down under :v:
Had my catback supported by a jack, 6" off the ground, so i could weld flanges together.
Of course, the muffler slides off the jack, causing a leak at a flange that was not previously leaking.
Bought a flex pipe (not corrugated, OEM style) to replace that flex joint.
Now, just to get time to weld that SOB in place.

As a cx500 owner, i am obligated to avert my eyes in shame when i see a moto guzzi coming the other way.
I heatd a comedian once say the same thing about crysler 300c's and rr phantoms.
Really miss having a truck. Just don't miss driving my dad's nearly 300k mile truck

What's wrong with Guzzi's? My local shop who is absolutely all about HD despise the new ones and recommend not buying any after seeing so many problems. The most recent ones I have seen in his garage have all sorts of reliability and wear-and-tear issues despite being almost new bikes with low miles. That would make me stray away from anything HD-related, but YMMV.
kyle877 could go for a Bonneville Bobber if he has to have the bobber style. I see some go for $11k and from what I've seen from some of the new Thruxton and Bonneville lineups, is worth all of it.

Nothings wrong with them, i meant quite the opposite. The cx500 is a transverse v-twin, and is sometimes called the poor mans guzzi. Imagine a celebrity impersonater coming across the original.

With almost exactly 100k less miles, my Crown vic feels as tight as a drum after driving both back to back.
My f250 has 520k miles and it still feels nice to drive

I wont say tight, as i doubt a 7.3 idi/t19 combo felt tight at 20k miles

CX500's are awesome motorcycles! A guy that I know rides a well-modded one and hosts the local cafe racer club. Why the shame? I'd consider it a different beast than the Guzzi in a good way especially considering the power they were capable of making. Aforementioned guy gives modern 600cc's a challenge with a 30 year old bike.
Speaking of V-twins, got her cleaned up and ready to smash into more bugs today.

My dads 95 silverado was nice when he bought it like 10 years ago but my dads kinda lazy. Doesn't fix shit till it's broken. Which I think his tie rods are about toast.
people fix things that aren't broken? that's against the prime directive
you know what I mean damn it, he doesn't do preventative maintenance.
preventative maintenance is for people who are afraid of being upside down in a ditch
did I ever tell ya'll about the time I broke a toe link at 107 miles per hour? ya'll don't know fear if you aint sheared off crucial suspension components at 3 digit speeds

Yea, my CX is pretty hopped up too. Murrays carbs and an hbox delete is all it takes to make it lift the front wheel. Dont get me wrong, I love CX/GLs, but Id still give a couple fingers at least for a guzzi eldorado.
I bought this car

I'm currently working on fixing it.

Eyy, Saab club
(except this one is a shitbox, but it's still cool)
It's been nasty here in socal the last few weeks, floating around the mid 90's with 70% humidity. It makes wearing gear absolute hell, but I do it anyway, because I value my untarnished skin.
Yesterday I made the terrible mistake of taking a measly hour long ride in a tank top after detailing my bike, and my Irish roots punished me. I am now a tomato.
The bike looked good though. Oh, also installed a stage 2 jet kit, desnorkled the airbox, debaffled the exhaust even further, and removed all the California emissions equipment which included two EVAP canisters, 3 EGR valves, and a charcoal canister the size of a coffee can along with roughly 5 feet of vacuum lines. Had a minor moment of confusion while plugging various vacuum ports and accidentally plugged the float bowl equalization port on the carb, made the bike run like shit for a minute. I love that this v-twin only has one carb, makes tuning and working it on it piss easy. SO much cleaner under the tank now, increased the throttle response exponentially, and deepened the exhaust/intake note. Now I'm just waiting on my velocity stack so I can delete the ugly triangle airbox entirely, then begin purchasing the rest of the parts for my bobber build. Got some new turn signals to install today, too.
Really wish I could afford some pipes for this thing, but at $420+ a set I just can't bring myself do to it. Considering molesting the stock exhaust, chopping it right where they meet at the bend and installing a y-pipe.

Do bikes not have to be smogged in California?

Ironic, since all the car electronics that seems dependable to me is Bosch parts that are "certified genuine spare part", and old Nippon Denso parts.
You're again having trouble with the electronic fuel injection system that was considered "bleeding edge" when it was put in your car?
Do bikes not have to be smogged in California?
Nope! They're trying to put laws into effect to make that happen, but they've been trying for years. Removing that shit completely transformed the bike, and studies have shown that the increase in emissions output is negligible at best. All the system did was take unspent fuel in the exhaust and pump them back into the intake, and any excess vapor went through the charcoal canister to atmo.
