Are the late 80s camaros that bad for a first car? My budget is anywhere between 2-6 grand.
They're fun but not particularly fuel efficient or reliable. Knowing how to wrench on them makes them a lot less drama.
Is your transmission overfilled?
When I fill it I make sure its between the 2 lines on the dipstick ( With engine running ) as it says in the manual
Did you recheck your fluid level with the engine running? And you said it only leaked after sitting a year, it could have always had the leak, it's just a really slow one
I checked fluid with the engine running (nothing on the dip-stick), a big puddle of oil just apeared under my car last week after standing still for two months, after driving it for + one year
Why not spray it all off, use some brake cleaner, And wait an hour see if anything if is wet
Why not spray it all off, use some brake cleaner, And wait an hour see if anything if is wet
Spray the transmission off or?
lmao the tire place said it would be $60 for the parts and an hour of labor I got two washers, a large spacer nut, the wheel stud itself, and two lugs for less than $15. Took a grand total of 5 minutes to fix. I made the right call on that one.

Transmission fluid expands when heated. Filling when cold (unless if you have a cold level mark or know the cold level spec - sometimes 12mm below the min mark on the dipstick) can cause you to overfill the transmission which could cause fluid to pour out of the vent on top of the trans. in other news, I scrapped my 86 S-Class, plastidipped the hood of my 190E, and might end up with a heckflosse (Jackpody will appreciate this) by next summer. There are too many E30s in this thread, so here is a picture of my 190E.
Smoke still hasn't fully cleared up here.
it's so bad here in vancouver you can actually stare at the sun at mid-day. It has roughly the same luminosity as a pretty bright street lamp. pretty surreal
They're fun but not particularly fuel efficient or reliable. Knowing how to wrench on them makes them a lot less drama.
I found a garage kept one with 63,000km on the meter. Its in show condition. Good price too [t]https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/usedphotosna/63485994_934.jpg[/t] [t]https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/usedphotosna/63485978_934.jpg[/t] [editline]9th August 2017[/editline] Didn't buy it yet, but going to check er out
Are you going to grow the necessary mullet to own that?
So we returned from the Czechia trip a couple days ago and oh boy My E36 needs a new gasket and I asked the mechanic to give him a hand with that, both to learn something and to save up cash because holy fuck he asked for "up to 1000 yuros if you want me to do the entire thing". At that point I might beg him to teach me some extra stuff, wouldn't mind dismantling more engine bits, just to see if everything is in order. After all, it's a '97 160000km beemer that I paid a pittance. After that, time to give the ol' R9 an engine rebuild and strip out all of the interiors because rally is life, and saving weight will help for the trip to Ulan Ute. :v: [editline]9th August 2017[/editline] Fuck it, I'll probably end up stripping the 316's interiors too, time for a gypsy-style racecar build.
did i hear someone say e36 racecar one of us one of us one of us
Speakerrrrrrsssss [t]https://puu.sh/x5Vr9.png[/t] and cat
did i hear someone say e36 racecar one of us one of us one of us
Well, "racecar" is a bit of a stretch considering it's just a 316 and any serious engine mods are a bureaucratic pain in the ass down here. I'll probably just strip out the unneeded weight (who even NEEDS interiors amirite), slap a new filter on her, some suspension tuning, and other minor stuff. My main concern is the R9 tho. It's fun on the downhill, even did some hairpin driftan without needing the handbrake, but holy fuck was the uphill a torture :v:. Being fully loaded with camping gear and a walrus-mode copilot didn't help, but still. I want to rebuild the motor anyway, how do I sneak some extra torque into this bad bitch without worrying about the engine suddenly flying through the windshield and into my skull?

M54 swap can be done for less then 1k (dependant on the country) Also I REALLY regret not making a timelapse of my entire racecar build. It's coming to an end now, and since ive been keeping a log of ALL expenses....it's actually a lot cheaper then I thought it would be. I'm like A LOT below budget :v:
My new racecar started as 316i too, engineswap it! TOO BAD, FUKC U", an engine swap is out of the question until I save up enough to bring the car to Germany and re-do the documents there, as it's cheaper and quicker. Not to mention the better chance to get a positive answer instead of the bureaucrats just pissing in your eyeballs. I was just thinking about extra low-speed torque for now, and remotely considering high-compression pistons for both the 36 and the 9. Anything more serious is gonna have to wait, especially considering it's my daily driver. I'm not turning her into a 300hp gas-guzzling monster just to commute, and drift some backwater roads when the eurobeat kicks in :v:
Also I REALLY regret not making a timelapse of my entire racecar build. Do you at least have some before-and-after pics, especially of the engine?
I didn't check the transmission fluid with a warm warm engine / after driving, mostly because I don't want to cause any damage because there is so little in it
You honestly don't know what you have in the transmission if the fluid is cold without a cold fluid level spec. Can you tell us all what car you have so we can find out if there is a cold level spec? When you filled it last, did you check the fluid when the transmission was hot or when it was cold?
Are you going to grow the necessary mullet to own that?
It will probably happen on its own, but I have the necessary Def Leppard cassettes required to run the car.
It looks like a time capsule. I say go for it if you're prepared to have to learn how to wrench on it.
What cassette tapes do I need to get in order to start my Porsche? I heard it won't run unless there's Hasselhoff in the deck.
What cassette tapes do I need to get in order to start my Porsche? I heard it won't run unless there's Hasselhoff in the deck.
now you're making me want to make some sort of cassette deck ignition system :v:
That ford probe I posted a few weeks back is now down to 1500 smackeroos. I want it but I so don't need it
Friend bought a probe once. Sold it as fast as he could immediately afterwards because it's a piece of shit vehicle
between 1993 and 1997 309,876 ford probes were built in the united states. as of 2011 there were 85,352 left on the road, 13,282 less than the previous year. those aren't good figures. if it kept dropping at that rate, that ford probe is one of roughly 22,000 left on the road at this time. if it lasts another 3 years, it'll be the last one left. your odds of having the last ford probe on earth aren't good.
My brother had a probe GT. It was fast as hell and constantly falling apart inside. Zero mechanical issues until it exploded the head gasket, though. Mixed bag, IMO.
