I looked at prices for limited slip differentials for my 316 and it turns out they cost nearly as much as the entire car. Granted I paid 1400 yuros for it, but dang. I just wanted a cheap drifter and instead I got sadness and poverty. :v:
The thing doesn't even have the button to disable traction control, I could just take out the fuze but that also disables ABS and I've been told that's a quick method to end up in a ditch. Am I really out of my luck if I want to drive a bit sideways without spending a fortune and/or a month in the ER?
You're in luck!

Then find someone with a welder.
Alternatively just look for a cheap 100% welded diff, are some floating around for cheap.
Welded diffs are really gross in dailies. Saw someone in an 80's 3-series dragging his ass around the parking lot and it's just the most tragic thing watching someone try to pull into a tight parking spot with a welded diff.
Why is it every new truck sounds like it has a welded diff? Trucks turning around in my parking lot squeal the tires 80% of the time.
Alternatively just look for a cheap 100% welded diff, are some floating around for cheap.
That's a thought that has been tingling me, but considering it's my daily driver and the weather here is like "SURPRISE BITCH IT'S SUDDEN RAIN, I HOPE YOU LIKE THE TASTE OF GUARD RAIL", I was looking at safer options. :v:
While I save up for a proper LSD, is there any way to wire a "turn off traction control" button somewhere?
[editline]14th August 2017[/editline]
Also yeah, I have to parallel park very often and rear visibility on the 316 Compact is already utter shit. Finding solutions for cheap driftan without paying for all-too-frequent transmission maintenance (and my neighbors' and coworkers' new bumpers) would be grand.

Yeah pull the abs fuse.
As you can PROBABLY guess, it also turns off ABS. I once simply made a switch for it. Google e36 abs switch or something
Alrighty, apparently I should be looking for the ASC switch that comes standard in fancier and more expensive e36's but is completely absent in mine. It's found for cheap but I don't know if the corresponding relay actually exists or not. Failing that I can just pull a couple fuses and git gud to compensate for the lack of ABS.
Oh well, I'll be doing some serious rebuilds alongside my local mechanic (my R9's maintenance has already paid for his holidays and retirement so he has no problems teaching me some stuff), so there will be extensive research of my cars' innards come September.

They don't. Usually thats a result of new pavement, new or sticky tires and/or under inflated tires.
Or getting near bald. Forgot about that one. Also trucks tires tuck alittle when you really cut the wheel
Does anyone know if it's still possible to link imgur albums?
Got a bunch of pictures of my mk3 resto project

Thanks for your help. I ended up not buying the car as I found accident damage upon inspection. The owner is a chill guy who then tried to sell me an 82 500SEC grey market Euro car (with title in hand) for $1500, but that poor car was just too rusty for me.
Okay so,
Here is what i spent most of this years free or spare time on, making this Mk3 Golf GTI 16v worthy for the road again,
Fast as hell, and i've never had a car where the engine runs so smooth.. it's done 183.000 for now.
It has loads of original parts, and some rare parts, like the colourconcept interior in black, and the blaupunkt door and rear speakers, costum headliner, and audi tt pedals,
and as for now i think it's the only on in denmark with headlight washers, which i got original from VW.

I was parked on the street aswell, not in a fucking parking lot
Parking on the street is only second to parking in an alley for asking for shit to happen to your vehicle

I'm not a fan of the headlights or the rims but its a mk3 so respect for that
They're underrated as hell, my GL with the 2.0 8v wasn't necessarily fast but the engine was bulletproof and it was fun as fuck.
My SAAB is a much better car but it's auto and I really miss the manual golf sometimes, good times driving on the twisty roads keeping it at 4-5k rpm

I read a fact once about back in the early 1900's the first two cars were introduced to a particular american state that I've long since forgotten which one. the only two cars in the state, and they managed to crash into eachother :v: as long as there's two cars on the planet someone is gonna crash into someone else.

it was ohio, but it's not true anyway. the first mention of it is a magazine from the 60s. they say it was 1895, but the first car in Ohio was a prototype built in 1891, which was crashed into a tree and brought out of service later that year. the first commercial sales of cars in the country didn't come until a year after the crash supposedly happened, so it's unlikely that more than one car was even in the state at the supposed time of the crash.
plus cars didn't even need to be registered until 1910, so there's no way to even officially verify any claims of an accident before that time.
Hey guys, long time no post. Been busy with work and health stuff, but I got rid of the junk beetle cause it was fucked beyond belief in the metal department. But I got this 1975 Triumph Spitfire in about 7/10 condition. Mechanical great, very little rust underneath, decent paint job (some imperfections that will lead to a repaint eventually). Third gear synchro or something is starting to go so transmission work down the line but in the meantime it's a ton of fun!
I have the hard top too but it is not the same colour

i love it, welcome to the janky ass old english car club. Embrace the suffering.
Speaking of suffering, i got the XJ entered in a concourse this weekend, and i came back after a weekend out of town to find that while i was away, the right rear tire blew out and went flat, and at some point something leaked onto the hood. I don't understand how any of this happened as the last time the car was out of the shed was when i just took it out to wash and clean out, and the garage was locked and i didn't see anything leaking from the roof, and certainly no possible leak points above either of the spots where whatever the fuck it is could've dripped from the ceiling. I don't know what it is or how it got there or how i managed to kill a tire going half a block. And somehow now i gotta do a full wash, wax and detail, plus get a full new set of cleats by friday with no spare tire to limp to a tire shop.
The fun just never ends.

That reminds me: Does this look like it can be buffed, or am I looking at respraying/replacing it?

The carpet which came with the car just looked really bad, and it is actually really nice fake laminate floor (though if you place stuff on it, it has the tendency to slide)
Other than that it's pretty easy to remove if needed too.

If i were to sell the car i would of course get hold of some original lights, though the ones i have on it have lenses and light extremely well.
also thanks guys!
Also got hold of a hard to find Kenwood KDC-W7027 headunit which works like this

Will be replace with an sort of original if the car will go for sale...
The doors, the damage is on the passenger side doors, it might be cheaper to just replace them than having them repainted.

Also really digging the rear flooring in that thing. I'm a big fan of household flooring in cars.

I would unironically love a big SUV in a similar style to Clarkson's S-class. An RV that looks like a cottage inside would be acceptable, too.

I need to find a suzuki dealership, I've been vaguely contemplating a gsxr 600, although I'd probably go for an older model. What was the 750 like?
Oh man, it was freakin' awesome.
I don't know about older ones, but the new models felt like I was riding on air. Everything about the 750 was smooth, suspension was perfect, steering damping was perfect, power was felt through the entirety of the throttle. The *only* thing that kept me from immediately wanting to buy one was the riding position, I'm still not quite a fan of the sportbike setup. The Ducati ended up being the perfect blend of relaxed/upright and forward/aggressive. If ever want to dip into sportbikes, a new GSX-R 750 is definitely near the top of the shortlist. It was one of the most easily controlled yet powerful machines I've ever operated, I only rode it for 30 minutes or so and it already felt like an extension of my body.
I'll never be getting another dark coloured car again that's for sure.
White/silver for life
once you go black you never go back
even if you have no ac, no tint, black interior and paint in south mississippi in august
