I don't know what this is, or how it happened, but i'm pretty sure it ate through the clear coat and possibly the top layers of paint
This is one of two cars ever sold in this color, and i'm pretty sure the other one doesn't exist any more. And the color's got 30 years of aging on it, so color matching will be basically as hard as it can possibly be.
Fucking kill me.
What in the world..? You got any more pictures of that issue? It looks interesting.
What's the texture? Have you tried a buffing wheel with aggressive compound?
Any paint shop worth its salt should be able to mix it for you if you give them the exact color code and name.
Oh i got the color code and name. Cotswold Yellow, 212/FDE, a stock color for the XJS. One year option in 1979/80, with only two XJ's sold in it, this being one of them.
But the paint's got 37 years of aging on it, and using the OEM paint code I had the original paint replicated for some minor rust repairs, so now the driver's side rocker panel is just a slightly different color than the rest of the car.

I ain't got anything for working with paint, so i don't have a buffing wheel.
that's the best picture i have of it, it's super hard to pick up with a camera, but basically it looks like if you just removed the reflection, and it doesn't look like some sort of substance riding on top, because it's textureless if you run your finger over it, and there's no refractive qualities to it. So i don't know what else it could be besides just a lack of clearcoat. And when i first saw it before i cleaned it off, the substance had a reddish color to it. So i don't even know what the fuck it is, or how it could've eaten through a few layers of paint so quickly.
Just fucking turned 33 on the 23rd.
Nothings changed.
They aren't even that small anymore. Have you seen the newest Mini? It's gigantic. I was shocked when it pulled up next to me and the roof was at the same level as my Vic, felt like.
Fiat 500s are closer to original Minis than Minis are

Man keep the fingers crossed. Have a mate or someone with a buffing / polishing setup (maybe even the Jag dealer?) give it a shot with the cutting compound and see if it comes around. It takes a lot to eat all the way through clearcoat.. paint stripper, brake fluid, etc is about all I can think of.
got my photos from the weekend in, some pretty good shots i think!

To hood scoop or not to hood scoop....I like the dual snorkel scoops on early 70s darts.

It might be brake fluid or ATF. I think it was the same red color as the brake fluid i use. But i haven't topped it up in months, and it wasn't in a shop between the last time i washed and waxed it and when the splatter turned up.
Weirder and weirder. I'm gonna at least try to buff it out before i break out the big money for it.
Also by the by, i was thinking of finding a later XJ outer headlight shroud for mine

On the early series 3's, some bullshit legislation somewhere mandated that all four headlights are the same size, forcing them to go with the inner smaller headlights for all four. Y'all think it'd be worth tracking down the later headlights and shrouds that fill out the space?

My very first fuel shortage! No gas from here to Fort Worth, ffs. Only diesel everywhere

Without context, I assume you passed them, as appose to them catching up to you? :flex:
I think I've still passed more Corvettes than have passed me on track. It's a different story with Porsches, and most German models. But as far as American cars go, they always seem to have the slower drivers. Granted, I've been in Novice class for all my events, but I honestly feel I'm on the verge of moving up to Intermediate.

Prices are going up fast too.
Gas last week was $2.22 and yesterday was $2.33... today its $2.49. Typical hurricane shit
Still 2.20 up here in the stable upper midwest

Maybe you should upgrade to the master race fuel

it costs US $5.32 a gallon for 91 octane here, the lowest octane rating possible. this is normal fuel pricing here.

Normal here is like... 87? 88?
Normal here is like... 87? 88?
Its the same octane, just in typical North American fashion, we rate it differently from the rest of the world. 87 AKI == 91 RON.
My Honda Shadow even has the recommended 91 RON octane sticker, despite being assembled in the US. :v:
That said there are the weirdos in the mountain states that have 85.5 AKI.
Old man, 21 and I owned more cars than all my friends... some still don't even drive
I've owned 2 cars and one was a project car that belonged to my mom. My current being my 95 Accord v6, which I actually think is one of the first few off the line.
[editline]31st August 2017[/editline]
And I'm not old, I'm aged well.
:dead:
I''m proud of myself for having owned 3 cars and a house by age 22.

I think they're trying to keep prices down in that area to help rescue crews and evacuees. They're getting stupid in the metroplex
24, still with parents, and a Miata (1990)
Drove a 2001 Kia Optima before getting the Miata
Even up here in NH gas was $2.49+
About to be 27 on Monday.
1. 1997 Chevy 1500 longbed with a completely shot power steering system. (sold)
2. 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with absolutely terrible gas mileage. (sold)
3. 2015 Honda Grom with way too many aftermarket mods. (current)
4. 2009 Ducati Monster 696 with huge chicken strips because I ride like a bitch on it. (current)
My two trucks were more gifts than anything. I absolutely hate driving with a passion, so went through my first two years of the military without a vehicle. Decided to take a stab at bikes and fell in love, so now I'm gonna be braving the PNW rainy winter commute on a Grom.

gas here (at least for premium/93) right now is 3.20...
