"various bits" Hahahaha.
If the bitch has no compression you either have something wrong with tour valve train or ya rings got stuck. All in all only way to really know is of you have good mechanical knowledge. Starting with a compression test to verify what they say followed by a leakdown test to see if it's your vwlvetrain or ya rings. Or you pooped a hole in ya piston. Which the shop should have been able to have seen.....

Apologies, that is what I meant when I said "Various bits" cause it was easier to type that then a list of different things when on my phone. The guy in the garage has basically implied that the cylinders are fucked beyond repair - this is all without even having a look beyond diagnostics. I've told them to wait because they will charge to start taking the engine apart, and once that's done I am committed to them fixing the entire thing.
Haven't had the flu shot in five years. I've never gotten the flu. I normally get sick once a year which is always at the start of winter for some reason. I am blessed
That's probably the flu. :v:

Couldn't headgasket also cause it?
Charger's back and all fixed up. No leaks that I've been able to spot. The guys that changed the oil in West-By-God Virginny broke a seal when they changed it. The mechanic in the dealership was furious with them and went on a tangent about how they didn't even need to touch that to change the oil.

I don't know what to tell you guy, Go take a look. If it looks like a mini freddy krueger tried to get out of your engine then I guess go forth on buying a new long block.
This was a piston from my beetle and yet it still had 40psi of compression.

So if it has NO compression find a bigger hole.
So I've got an Astra 1.7 Cdti, 2011. Car started having issues on my way home from work end of last week. At low-medium revs the engine would struggle and judder. To move from stationary I'd have to rev really hard otherwise it would stall, and i had to put my foot down on the accelerator when I was stationary other wise the engine would die. Car died and wouldn't start on the way to the garage (Baylis, vauxhall dealer)
Garage have finally had a look at it, diagnostics have told them that the 3rd and 4th cylinders have no compression. They rang me without taking the top of the engine off, and said "from my experience, you will need to replace the entire engine" .
Told them to wait on taking the engine top off, as dad and I are sceptical they're jumping straight to replacing the entire engine, when everything online points to needing to only replace various bits of the engine.
Oh, also the car is only 6 years old with a full service history and just under 80000 miles on the clock (was literally just about to be due a service).
If anybody has any experience or knowledge they can share, is what they are saying sounding right? The car ran perfect before this and this just came out the blue.
vauxhall engines are basically made of chocolate. save yourself time and money, sell it as spares and get something else. a decent old ford or VAG car won't cost you too much and they're far cheaper to run.

Lol what seal did they break?
Change oil on chargers basically everyday and it is simpler than hell.

It's never serious as the flu. More of a bad cold than a lasting sickness

Honestly not really. Not with all the covers and shit on modern cars.
Also just call them "regular cars", not ICE. It sounds a million times dumber than it is.

I would like a 12v/whatever volt A/C compressor to see how it works.
For science.
[editline]20th March 2017[/editline]
In the end I'd like to make my suburban dual compressor.... for maximum freezing abilities.

Pretty much like a regular compressor with an electric motor slapped on the end of it I guess.
[editline]20th March 2017[/editline]
So it looks like I'm going to start riding my bike a lot again, but I'm not really happy with the clutch on it. I tried adjusting it, and it went from fairly good feel to grabbing quickly but having boatloads of slack, and now it grabs almost at the end of the lever travel (but it's supposed to be adjusted properly)
At the same time it goes from no engagement to full engagement in no travel at all, giving me very little control during slow riding. Could it be cable adjustment, or adjustment on the clutch itself, or is the clutch just worn out?
Planned on getting shit done today, then a 12 valve 5 speed 4x4 derge came up for sale for $3000..... 5 hours away.
Easy flip for $5000 but ill probably hoon around in it to pick up steel and shit

They make them for minibus fridges, caravans and funsized campers.

Is that on the KTM? No experience of the SMC, but the Freeride my mate has to dick about on has a horrendous clutch because the plates have warped and drags (you have to stall it to stop lol), but even before it was shagged the actual engagement distance was very very short. Shuffle the adjustment until it is closer to the middle of the lever action and hope you get better with practice?

I close on my house next Monday and have a week to regain strength to move and remodel.. wish me luck.
On that note I hope none of you have gotten whatever is going around this winter because holy fuck it was horrible. I don't think I've been this sick for as long as I can remember.
You guys remember when i kept posting from the e.r. for 3 days? They said it was the flu too. I still dont buy it.
new plug wires, an ABS sensor, and door pins ordered.. basically the last things needed to prep for sale

Why do you have a Sega Dreamcast under your hood?
Gonna be hopefully getting $1000-$1500 for a project car soon. What do I get? I massively prefer something pre-1975 so I don't have to smog, and I hate V6s.
Just replace the tire, Not many places shave normal tires. At least to my knowledge.
The cupping won't get worse due to the strut being replaced, it'll just wear till it looks normal.
This is on an AWD Subaru. The remaining tires are 7-8/32nd, new is 12/32nd. The overall circumferences are supposed to be within 1/4" of each other, that would make it much more.
The issue is, the cupping is 8/32nd at its highest, down to the wear bars at the lowest. We are talking nearly 1/4" of difference in height. It's like that all the way around and makes the car vibrate.

Join me in the world of the Ford Pinto.
Last year and this year so far are the only years since I started hunting at 16 I haven't had bronchitis. Two years ago I had the flu and pneumonia at the same time together. That was easily the worst thing ever I have gone through.
And, stupid question, but how much weight can you realistically pull on bolted bumper hitches? I assume not much more than about 300 or 500 lbs, not that my truck can realistically handle more weight than that.

Should say on the bumper. For c/k 1500's I believe its 200lbs tongue & 2k lbs trailer weight.
with a real hitch you can go up to 2,400 tongue and 16k trailer weight.

There is one near here that's claimed to be a race car with a hopped up 2.3 but honestly I don't want an American four-cylinder if I'm getting a 4-pot. I'd much prefer a stalrsight six.

bumper hitches are useless. you might be able to get away with something like a canoe on one of those flimsy harbor freight folding trailers
