What causes excessive engine vibration? The engine vibrates way more than it should, it's kinda scary cause it feels like its going to explode or something. Could a bad camshaft pos sensor cause this, or did i somehow fuck up putting the motor mount back on?
Im no mechanic but, Broken engine mounts, or a fucked flywheel?
Im no mechanic but, Broken engine mounts, or a fucked flywheel?
Hmmm, possibly. I checked the flywheel, it seems to be have all of its teeth. And I might have fucked up one of the mounts, since I only took one mount off and put the engine on a jack
Im no mechanic but, Broken engine mounts, or a fucked flywheel?
If the engine 'shudders' and sounds like a lawnmower with a muffler it could easily be a cam position sensor, or crank sensor. Or spark plugs/ignition coils.. totally haven't dealt with that in my maxima for 3 years....

Replaced the camshaft sensor twice in 2 years, shit sucks man; it's like 50 bucks per sensor
Laddos, need some advice Thinking of getting a BMW 3 Series ('07) - thoughts?

As for what I've so far done today, I changed the clutch in a friends 95 C1500. About 4 hours worth of work and had to weld some strength back into the fork as it was getting ready to shit itself, or at least on the way, it should last him till he can get a new (used) one. The push rod for the fork and slave was also starting to bore a hole into the fork so I cleaned it up and welded some filler in then hit it with a dremel, after which I put a bit of stiff assed hose onto the rod end to kinda keep it from doing that again. Thus far it seems to work great but I am going to have him keep an eye on it, just in case. He can now spin tires, on accident. #newclutchproblems
Cam and BOTH (yes, both) crank sensors for my roomies 96 maxima are 14~ bucks a pop on rock auto.
Damn lol. I bought them from an auto shop unfortunately, I was low on time so I had to get them there. Otherwise I would've looked around

My exhaust makes this weird bonging noise when it cools after a drive. :v:

I'm at the 24 hours of lemons in Sonoma.
Did you upgrade from the supra?
???????????? before this i had an 04 4cyl camry...
so the used tire place I go to is closed on saturdays now. tried going to my backup place and all they had that fit was some 265/70-17s that was obviously off opposite corners so gonna be driving on my spare till monday. huge pain in the ass. at least it's a full size spare but it's full oem size and not the same as what I got on the other side.
Last weekend I ripped out the headliner in the Blazer, sprayed more adhesive on it (it was sagging badly) and put it all back together. Took 2 half days to get it done, and the headliner is worse than before :(
Basically, the foam is probably too old so when you try to adhere to it it's just going to crumble into foam dust and isn't going to adhere. My guess anyway. You're going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new headliner. Alternatively, you could just get some synthetic carbon fiber, roll it onto the headliner board and it'll never sag again because you new age now boi. I'm going to have to replace the headliner in my car in the next two years probably, it's sagging a bit in the back and it's loose around the overhead light in the front, really not looking forward to it tbh.
So, stupid question. How do tachometers typically work, and how difficult would it be to install an auxiliary tach on a car that doesn't already have one?
So, stupid question. How do tachometers typically work, and how difficult would it be to install an auxiliary tach on a car that doesn't already have one?
Well, on older cars it was basically that a geared part of the car that rotated, like the flywheel or something else that rotated, would be used to also rotate a magnet inside a coil. Your RPM is thus displayed depending on the voltage induced by the system. Basically the same as a speedometer iirc. As to how easily you could install your own, I have no idea, probably depends on the car. You could probably piggyback off the voltage induced by the speedometer's system, since a system wired in parallel will have the same voltage, assuming you had enough current to work with.
So, stupid question. How do tachometers typically work, and how difficult would it be to install an auxiliary tach on a car that doesn't already have one?
What kinda car are you looking to put a tach into? Older cars sometimes had a tach signal output for testing and setting the dwell. Some newer cars (if not most) have a tach signal wire that goes to the ECU for engine speed reference, it's entirely possible to piggy back off of that, it's what I did. Some tach signals are digital these days, so it really depends on the car/truck and where the signal originates from.
On the subject of tachtometers, and excuse my ignorance, are there diffetences beteen 6cil and 4cil tachtometers? Thinking pf putting one in my car as well, but I don't think any 4cil cars of my model had one so I'll need to snoop one from a 6cil model
You can but you'll have to re-calibrate the tachometer since the measurements will be different between a 4 and 6 cylinder, assuming it's using the ECU's signal and not hardwired like some older cars are. You'll probably be off by a bit as well even then but not too bad. I'll be honest, I'm not super in the know about it so take this with a grain or two.
Are you a rich mechanic?

I've owned a lot of bmws in my time and they've all been shit
We're talking like 50k-60k miles, nothing excessive like 100k+

Just swap it, plug it in and see if it will work. The fun part begins when it wont work and you try to figure out resisters and shit by reading stuff on the internet.
???????????? before this i had an 04 4cyl camry...
Thought you were someone else, guess I should pay attention to the flag.
I don't think my '73 car has an ECU :v: And currently it has a big ol clock instead of a trachtometer. On an other related note, I want to make the m10 engine in my bmw as close as original as possible, previous owners kind of messed with it and I'm looking for some good reference pictures of layouts .ect They removed some parts, cut some hoses and I have no idea what they used to connect to ???
Same. I'm talking about an '87 Toyota Pickup/Hilux.
Same. I'm talking about an '87 Toyota Pickup/Hilux.
There should be a tach/test wire or connection near or on the distributor if it has one.
Do tiny trucks count? [T]https://i.imgur.com/xfF6QJ6.jpg[/t] I just painted this up. Instagram filter and all because the lighting is dick in my garage. I'll take some daytime pics tomorrow, because the metallic red is just too sexy.
I have always wanted either a 4-6S lipo or 2stroke truck for ever. I know I can't keep myself from hitting trees in my fullsize truck what will be any different on a scale truck. :V
broken mounts, harmonic balancer out, lots of things what motor and is it making any nasty noises [editline]25th March 2017[/editline] I've owned a lot of bmws in my time and they've all been shit
It's a 4G69. The motor does sound a bit off, and I'm assuming its due to the P0340 code its giving (bad camshaft pos sensor). I hope its not the harmonic balancer, I really really don't want to go through the hassle of doing timing belt shit again
Electric trucks are the way to go. I love this truck though because the 15cc's is just so nuts. Its got so much torque for a little truck. Its one of many in my collection though. [T]http://i.imgur.com/xve5V0O.jpg[/t] [T]http://i.imgur.com/pFzWpDs.jpg[/t] The racing semi is just a touring car with a unique body and tire set, while the Mercedes is a ladder frame truck with a three speed transmission and leaf springs. It has lights too. [editline]25th March 2017[/editline] I had those Firestone stickers on the truck because I used to work for Firestone and I thought it helped break up the bland silver and blackness.
