BMW does this because they're notorious for having shit grounds. In fact, I had to run an extra ground on the e30 just to get the starter to work effectively. The fact that the solenoid has a ground in addition to the starter itself is a good thing - the second wire (black/yellow) is just signal.
Thanks! So you're 99% sure that the thick black one needs to be properly groundedn, and then I need to put 12v on the signal wire to start it? (With a push-button obviously)
Espeially so for me. Im starting to think ive got a fetish for mediocrity.
It's fun to hoon a simple shitbox, especially since they're so easy to fix.

(With a push-button obviously)
That's my understanding of it, yes. I'd test it first, obviously, ground the black then send a positive 12v on the signal wire with the ignition relay removed and see if the starter actuates. I'm 99% sure that's how it works. [editline]30th March 2017[/editline]
Hello guys. Don't post here often, but need car help. I recently had my Ford Fiesta hatchback totaled by some guy texting and driving, injuries involved but everyone's alive. I'm trying to find a new car I really like. My first car was an Acura Integra, then the RSX, and my most recent was the Fiesta. I picked it because even though it wasn't a speed demon, it drove really nice and was really responsive just like my RSX. I really like small cars. I'm thinking about moving on from a Fiesta, but don't know where to start.
If you like small hoonigan friendly cars, buy a Miata. It's right up your alley. And the NC Grand Touring ones have a retractable hardtop like my '08 did, so if you don't like convertibles you can just leave the hardtop on all the time. It was a wonderful car and they're relatively cheap now. Also, RWD. Move away from FWD. You'll have way more fun than you have been having with your FWD cars. This was my '08: [t]http://i.imgur.com/xw1jFnm.jpg[/t]
It would kill me to sell a car I loved and find out it'd been wrecked within a few months.
I sold my 74 Dart and the dude never registered it and parked it on the street. It got picked up by the tow yard and i had to pay $250 to give them the title and not be charged. I did not keep my side of the bill of sale. I learned mt lesson. Otherwise the city wanted $350 to be ALLOWED to remove it from the tow yard and the tow yard wanted $1800 to get the car.
Does there have to be a gasket between the engine and water outlet/inlet fittings? There's smoke/steam coming from that area, and I'm not sure why. Car has coolant in it, and temps are fine Edit: never mind, I'm a retard and didn't put the hose clamps back on
Minibike got proper speed parts! There was acrid smoke just rolling off it. I pulled the plug and it runs leaner than an african child, despite me already having drilled out the jets. Guess I gotta go up another bit size. The exhaust is too high, I sorta burned my ass on it. Gotta cut and weld it on at a lover angle of dangle. I can also unscrew the muffler to go from puttputtputtputtputtputtputt to BLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

That's pretty clean looking, other than being wheel deep in mud, for a Benjamin.

The gist of it is this guy's father-in-law just got tired of driving the car 8 years ago and he doesn't want to pay registration any more. Also the big rains have trashed his property so I show up with a trailer, a shovel, and a Benjamin, and I've gotten rid of a headache. Also it's a few hundred miles north to be considered socal.

I saw a really good one on the road today, it was an older dodge motorhome with the home part removed. just a cab and a pair of plush captains chairs with no protection from the elements at the rear, in the rain during a tornado. I didn't see a camera car, so it wasn't roadkill. god knows what the fuck that guy was doing.
Whats "clean driving record" to yall? I applied to a job and disclosed a ticket on 3/2012 and a non-fault non-injury accident on 8/2014. Is 4 years without incident clean to y'all? To me thats fuckign squeekly clean for a 22 year old that fucking shreds tires.
Three years is legally considered clean here in Norway. After three years your points get removed
Porsche update: The actual owner(I had been dealing with his son-in-law until now) wanted to push to the weekend after the one after this because he's going on a road trip to buy a new tractor this one, and he wanted to actually be there when we drag it out. Good news is now we have a tractor to pull it out instead of a pickup, bad news is I gotta wait another full week. Original owner seems like a real swell guy. He bought it to restore it but it just wasn't his passion so he let it sit.

I haven't posted here in ages...but my Suzuki accross gave up today, refused to start unless pushing it down a hill, then headgasket failed on the way home from a friend's house, not worth repairing cause $850 bike, so it's been replaced by.. [t]https://i.imgur.com/pw59MAx.jpg[/t] 2003 Suzuki GS500, holy mother of god this thing is so much quicker than my old one (and comfier), hit 150 in the time it took the old one to reach 70, and it's still learner approved! Here tickets fall off anything an employer can get after five years

Not sure what engines you can get where you are, but looking at the ones we get in the UK, the 1.5 ecoboost in some trims and the 2.0 ecoboost that you get on the ST seem like pretty good engines with plenty of power for the size, with great tunability if you want to get more out of them. VW Golfs are solid all rounder cars, but tend to be a tad expensive unless you get a used one. Kias are good cheap cars, they do what they need to. they seemed to really be stepping up the game across the board on their cars, but the prices were going up as well. in the end it comes down to what you want to get, so go out, find some cars you like the look of and take them out for a test. that's the best way to get a car that you'll like. So I spent 3 hours figuring out why the fuck my starter wont engage. In the end it was this brand new piece of shit push button that wasn't actually working Kill me THE GOOD NEWS, the engine cranks! I just need to get some fuel tomorrow and hope it fires right up
I have sinned. You know how people like to LSx a bunch of Asian cars and the like? Well I was browsing Craigslist and found a 73 Roadrunner roller for about 1.2k And then Satan himself entered my body and gave me a devilish thought. Put a 2JZ in it.
I aint even mad.
I think it would be kickass. Looks like some dude already put a 2JZ in a 71 Valiant, and it looks kickass.
My first big project was going to be something exactly along those lines. Buy a cheap pre-1965 roller and put a nice reliable JDM motor in it.
I dunno, I don't get the point, beyond the "huh, how about that" factor, which I can sort of understand. If I'm going through the trouble of a swap, I'd wanna stuff the fattest, beefiest motor in it I can. Speaking of swapu, I've wanted to put a 440 in the Dart for a while now, but I cannot convince padre to do it. :v:

Shitbox Kia essentially lost all brake pressure on the way home. Not fun having to slam the brakes and still only get about 15-20% brake pressure, with no real ability to keep it stopped at lights/stop signs unless I use the e-brake or put it in neutral. So just to play it safe, all the parts I think it needs (some NEEDED to pass inspection): -New master cylinder -New brake booster -New brake lines where ever it is leaking -New power steering pump (been leaking A LOT past few weeks) -New EVAP canister to turn off check engine light -Radiator hoses (overheated in Nov, only changed 1 hose clamp and did a coolant flush....no cooling issues since though) -Timing belt (for all we know, could be the original) -water pump -Rust repair on rear wheel well I already decided 6-9 months ago it isn't worth keeping this car. Even just before this winter started, I was on the verge of just buying another car, or at least willing to split the cost 50/50 with my dad. Some issues have remained in the way of getting rid of it though. Ever since I got the Miata, it is only a winter car for me, and the rest of the year is shared with my brother. Persistent issues: -Title is still under my Dad's name -Can't agree on who would pay for another car (me, dad, brother, or combination of us) -Can't agree on what kind of car to get, but we know light towing ability is a must for the sailboat/trailer I've posted about this shit car over and over, not sure if anyone has kept track. But yeah, I wish the snow would go away so I could finally drive the Miata out of the basement and back on to the driveway. I wish I could kinda go "sort it out yourself", but it still obviously effects me when I'm still relying on it with the snow still here. Can't just let it go another year only to have it in even worse condition next winter, after having barely driven it for the year. I know my brother and dad suck at keeping on top of maintenance. I kind of look at it as I have to bite the bullet, buy another car, let my brother use it when the Miata comes back out (only a matter of weeks now), and let the annoyance of having the Kia sitting around be the motivation to FINALLY get rid of it. Opinions on this?
My Kia Spectra was so worthless that as soon as it started having another exhaust issue and sounded twice as loud I scrapped it on a whim.
I've seen video of a crown Vic with a 2jz
For that shitbox Kia, that's around the time where the sump drain plug would ~mysteriously~ have loosened itself enough so it'd rattle loose on a long drive and hopefully put a rod through the side of the block.
