[QUOTE=Merijnwitje;52089086]So the scanner I ordered arrived but I have issues getting it to connect to the ECU. The port provides power and I am able to connect it to my phone over Bluetooth, but Torque is unable to connect to the ECU. Any things I should check with the car itself before concluding this scanner itself doesn't support the ECUs protocol? I turned the ignition on and even tried it with the engine running but no dice.

There's some settings you gotta mess with, there's a guide somewhere but you gotta enable the adapter in torque basically
[QUOTE=papkee;52089815]Anybody here know much about old Toyota Land Cruisers? I'm starting to consider what I'd like to get when my current vehicle gets [DEL]taken away[/DEL] passed down to my brother, and I really like the look of the 80's FJ60s and 62s. Problem is most of the nicer ones seem to live on the west coast, and I imagine anything I find here in the midwest will be full of rust and other fun things. I'd love to grab a cheap one as a project car, but I know almost nothing about refurbishing vehicles so odds are I'd be spending more than a clean one would be anyway.
They just look so nice...

Be prepared for rust and slightly wonky diesel engines, otherwise solid.

I cracked the exhaust and for some reason this motor has always had low compression.... I might dig into it later. But I found out why it was backfiring the sparky plug was acting strange and not sparking correctly at the right time like it was fouled but not fouled idk a new one fixed it.

And change the compression rings. See if that helps. Hah.

oops, I will insert click if u dare youtube vids.
I will try to find some ebay rings for it, but I have my doubts as this is a chinese knockoff before chinese knockoff honda motors were a good thing.
Was looking at new Honda's to possibly buy and I determined that the Civic is just waiting to be riced so the accord is the better option
Like, 2017 new or new to you?
If it's new, I think the accord coupes are very noice
If used new I still think I'd prefer an accord, the used accords are usually significantly less dogged than the cibics

Like 2017 new. I looked at the Mazda 6, which is still my primary choice, but then I started to look at other sedans. The 2017 Civic is begging to be riced
[QUOTE=kyle877;52089289]Alright, got a question. Should I be concerned about this noise?

9k Miles, fresh oil, on my 2004 Savage. It's not super loud and as far as I can tell it's not from the cam chain, as the sound would originate lower, near the shoddy stock tensioner.[/QUOTE]
all air cooled motors tick louder pipes and open up the airbox to drown it out

ahhh I haven't worked on many FJ60's but if they're like every other landcruiser (and other 4x4's), then expect axle seals to be leaking into the rear drums and turning the brake shoes into mush. A sneaky seller would probably clean away the external signs. The diesel motors are generally very good, I'm unsure if these generations liked to crack heads, and the petrol motors are pretty thirsty obviously.
Our neighboring business owner dailies an immaculate FJ60 with ~400k km om the clock, so they're pretty reliable (or his could be skewing my perception of them entirely???)
A friend of mine hooked me up with some really nice turf from a football end zone to line the trunk with for laughs today.

From what I've seen while looking it appears that people love the diesels in the FJ. It's too bad that they were pretty much exclusive to Japan and Australia, and are therefore right-hand drive. I don't know how I feel about that.
But damn if they don't look nice when they're cleaned up.
RHD is fucking horrific. We have a guy who gets work done at my store in hid xj that used to be a mail truck, it is so weird to drive.

I've always wanted to buy one of these because I'm left-handed, and because it'd just be quirky as heck in the US. Where do you find them, auctions or something?
FWIW I just bought a set of British L/P magnets to slap them on my American car to be a cheeky cunt, a set of [url=https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2016/01/07/23/Learner-Rex.jpg]these things[/url] imported
Yeah, I think he nabbed his at state auction, from what I remember.
It such and odd change to drive with, wasn't a fan. Neat to see, but I dunno how he does it :v:

Landcruisers sound FUCKING AWESOME straight piped
I heard one in person and spent a month trying to find a clean one for a good price but everyone wants an arm and a leg.
The engine itself isnt that great as I think its an indirect injection, but they're pretty tough vehicles

There is a guy with the 4.7 toyote in his Tundra around here that sounds really, really good. I dunno if he has done anything to it, since it's the only one that sounds that great, but still, I don't expect that from a goofy looking beigemobile with a bed.
[url=http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a33189/a-bmw-car-club-chapter-is-banning-new-bimmers-from-its-trackdays/]Interesting and debatable decision made by a regional BMWCCA.[/url] Makes sense to me, all these stupid and less-than-perfect driver assist systems bring too much uncertainty to the track. For sure though, the aftermarket will probably come up with solutions that help permanently disengage them without too much hassle.

huh, 840. I thought mid 9s sounded miserable for the 1023 number that people have been throwing around.
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
I like how they're calling a 2.7 liter blower "massive"
2.7 liters is cute
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
even the small diameter 6-71 is something like 5.5 liters
maybe they have some huge compression compared to the old blowers I'm used to but 2.7 liters to me sounds tiny
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
speaking of, I bet something like an 8-71 would turn a demon into a serious machine
I think the screw style supercharger is far more efficent than the conventional roots style 8/71 superchargers.
So you dont need as big of a supercharger to move the same volume of air. Plus I'm not all too sure how the displacement comes into play and if it can be used as an effective comparison given both superchargers are entirely different designs.
I do know for sure that the screw style makes less heat
like I said, I don't know modern blowers.
the closest aftermarket screw blower I could find in a cursory googling was a 2.9 liter whipple that pumps out 1720 cfm at 30 PSI (!) at 18k rpm (!) whereas a 6-71 you'll maybe run at 8 grand tops to get about 15 PSI and close to 1900 CFM
so yeah the screw blower is more efficient per liter but it'll still make more power on the 6-71 aka the baby weiand
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
and the 2.9 liter whipple was towards the bottom of the chart. they carry up to 8.3 liter twin screws. 8.3 liters is massive for a roots, let alone a twin screw. that's like 14-71 size and twin screw efficiency. I want one
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
and I would think being that the 2.9 liter has to spin at 18 grand to get even close to the same air movement that it would generate more heat than the larger conventional roots style for a given volume of air
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
though I guess it compressing to a much higher pressure would have a cooling effect on the intake charge as it decompresses on the way out of the thing, and since this thing is intercooled the whole point of hotter vs colder against a non-intercooled system is moot
[editline]12th April 2017[/editline]
besides that everyone knows there's no such thing as too big a blower. just keep swapping pulleys till you see boost on the gauge

But our family friendly sedans are made to drive 1200km before refuelling. If you want proper fast, there's plenty of cars to do it. Take the Alpha Omega GTR for example. 0-60mph in 1.49 seconds. 60-130mph in 2.28.

You're starting to become a sore itch at this point to be honest
Volvo decided to piss all its coolant on the driveway.
Fuck off, April just isn't my month
I bought brand new red Mechanix gloves that matched my Porsche and since they got very dirty while working with the car I tossed them in the washing machine with the floor mats. Fast forward and someone stole my brand fucking new gloves out of the dryer. So I pissed on their laundry.
