Yeah, duh... How could I forget about that? Those slide pins look really short though.
Not slide pins, but different version of what he's holding here:

Yeah, I know what you're talking about, I was talking about the allen head bolts on the back which I presume are the slide pins.
They look normal to me. On the Subaru I had they were like 3cm long :v: They were fat though
The bolts on the back are what holds together the actual calliper and the bracket I milled off. The bracket is what holds the brake pad on the other side of the disc.

Hit 200k miles in my $650 190E that burns oil on I476 north somewhere between the Lehigh Tunnel and Clarks Summit last week.

Then I drove it around Watkins Glen (opening day paced laps) last week, but the car in front managed to fall a lap behind the Toyota Camry Pacecar so I didn't even get to squeal my 185mm wide tires.
So I'm going to be ridding myself of my 2003 Saturn L200 some time soon because it has run into brake issues more times than I can count. Looking for nice, little sporty cars that are still 4 seaters, I came across a 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman. The MPG looks nice, it's $10k for 67k miles, and there aren't any evident issues with it on the reports.
Thinking of taking a test drive of it, but it's about 3 hours away. Any opinions before I make that trek?
You're thinking of switching from a vehicle with frequent problems... to a mini?
I dont understand the question

You want to switch vehicles beacuse of brake issues? What kind of brake issues... If you said eletrical issues I'd with you... but brakes... brakes can be easy.

The issue I have has come back every time I've done repairs to it. The front driver caliper tends to stick for reasons I cannot figure out. The front passenger one has only ever done so once and it has never happened to the rear drum brakes. I've replaced the Caliper (with slide pins and proper grease), rotor, pads, and have properly bled the line each time. I have also continued to check the fluid. I've done most things short of replacing the master cylinder. If you folks could give advice and it at least lessened the issue, I'd be in your debt.
That said, I would probably replace the car at some point anyways. It just hit 150k miles and has a fair share of other minor problems that I cannot fix myself and honestly don't feel like paying half the car's worth getting fixed.

When brake hoses wear out, they can impede fluid flow in a way that causes fluid to remain under pressure in the caliper after you have lifted off of the brakes. It could be the hose if you haven't replaced that already, and at 150k miles you should replace them anyway.
Good news is that it isn't your master cylinder since you aren't complaining about a sinking pedal.
Also 150k miles isn't a lot. Both of my cars have over 200k miles.
Slithers is on the money for a cause. I'd also check the metal lines for kinks, that can also cause that problem, though not as often, mostly just when something is hit or care is not taken with the lines during working near them. I speak from experience there. If the caliper is sticking and burning only one pad or one more then the other, the bracket that holds the caliper and pins could be warped causing it to bind when it hets to a certain point. That would happen regardless of the pins moving freely.
Check your lines first and just replace any of the rubber lines, if you don't have the issue anymore you are good to go. (Or stop correctly)
Who was it that wanted a Isuzu Vehicross?

The person who bought my old Cavalier was the boss of my mom's boyfriend's son. It was for that boss's daughter. At easter dinner, I found out that the daughter had crashed the Cavalier and got her license suspended. Supposedly the car isn't completely totalled.
That was kind of painful to hear. I mean, I'm definitely in no rush to buy another Cavalier, but man I loved that little shitbox.

Probably me.
As a mopar fanboi and a lover of odd 4x4s, I want that, a lot. I'd lower it a little, but still, noice.
Squirrels ate my spark plug wire and my oil drain plug is immovable :frown:
Crossposting from the gay thread, my rally senses kicked in here pretty hard. Don't know what speed I got to but was doing 4th on gravel somehow

If the head is round you might be able to jam a socket that's one size too small on it.
Otherwise weld a nut to it or use one of these, they're crazy strong

As for the wire you're gonna have to chase the squirrel down and fetch the remains from his stomach and tape them to the broken wire

Kind of me, but I'm in the wrong country.
Good thing there's already one here:

Plan to pick up a ScanGauge II for $40.
Anyone here have one?
What do you usually have it set on?
I see that it has a metric ton of options, almost overwhelming, but it seems so useful.

I know the feeling. My old Ford Focus hasn't had an MOT on it since the last one I put on it before I sold it. It was a heap, rusting away and falling to bits. It was slowly gassing me at one point as well. But hot damn did I love that thing, it was the car that gave me freedom. Went on a fair few road trips around the island with my girlfriend at the time in it. Ripperoni Ford Focus.

You can just see the back corner of my ex-girlfriends Corsa next to it, that's come up for sale recently from the guy that she sold it to not long after we split up. I've been tempted to get it but I've no need for it. little go kart of a thing that Corsa.
Man... Tires get expensive, even if they're cheap.

It's almost like the ticket vendors for concerts. About 1/3 of the checkout price is bullshit convenience fees and other nonsense. I literally didn't go to a concert that looked amazing simply because 50% of the checkout price was convenience fees.

Naw, the plug itself is fine. Super strong with great sides and my socket is rock solid on it. However when I hooked my toes into the car and heaved on the socket with all my might all I did was sprain a shoulder. There's no room to get a breaker bar in, either. I soaked the plug with Blaster, and I plan on reapplying it several times. Hopefully it'll let go sooner than later.
As for the wire I'm just gonna have to buy some used OEM wires on eBay. They've got funky boots that I can't quite get cheapo $7 autozone wires to play nice with. Got one wire that fits the distributor but not the plug. Or vice versa. Or neither end fits despite looking perfect.
Squirrels also ate the wires for (I think) the oil pressure sender, the o2 sensor, and also a fog light and a few other unknown wires I'm gonna have to trace and replace.

The cost of all 4 tires with tax for you is less than a single tire for me without tax.
37x12.5R20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2's are $510 a tire.... and thats about the average price for tires around 37".
I wish I had small car tire prices

It's weird that you have two fees that are seemingly the same but that's what we do over here as well - You pay the disposal fee upfront and then it's free to throw the tyre away. Means I can take any of my old useless tyres to any shop and they'll chuck em on top of the pile.
and then i come and take those tyres and put them back on my car, wear out the last weeks and chuck them in another shop's pile :v:
