i was pretty much at the bottom of the list at the event, probably 4-5s off what the car could be running but god its good fun to drive. being on 255 all seasons dont help lol.
I've just spent the last hour looking up local autocross events because of this post, would it be weird to simply go as a spectator?
Lol they did like a month after they broke the first one. This one just cost like 4 times as much.
That and I've got a completely new engine, crower cam, springs, retainers, supertech exhaust valves, and a new custom built transmission with carbon synchros and an MFactory lsd. So much other stuff..
Ughhh
On holiday with family, their van broke down. (Ford transit). Check oil level, absolutely fucking empty. Engine probably seized.
So here I am, driving back to my country. Pick up the work truck and trailer and go and pick it up. In total a 9 hr drive.
See yall in a bit :v:

Some clubs can be little more strict about randoms walking around, but for the most part, autocross clubs are very chill. They really are glorified social events, the atmosphere is usually very friendly.
Most good clubs will hold 1-2 autocross "schools" through out their season, albeit most have possibly already held one. They tend to be before the beginning of the season in mid-late April, or early in May. If they hold a second one, those might be in the mid point, around August maybe. Schools are great because not only do you get to simulate running an actual autocross course at the end, but earlier in the day they have to do driving drills like consecutive stops, driving in a figure 8, and going through a slalom.
God I fucking love these cars

Sleek, 2 door pillarless coupe, hideaway headlights, all its missing is a small diet and a 2JZ and it'd be a wicked track car
I really wanted to autocross my crown vic last year but never got to it. Idk why, but im just not as interested in it this year.

not at all!! and usually people are more than willing to give u rides if u ask for one too. see if theres a SCCA near where u live or facebook events work really well nowadays too.
and as long as ur car is in good mechanical shape might as well run it! at my local club there was a non-SRT4 neon that won fastest raw time, and ive also seen people run a 80s cutlass and a s10.

Despite the wicked weight on the 8 series, it seems to be a very composed and tossable Beamer. Plus, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a BMW V12 in my engine bay.

This is the main reason I got in to loving these so much.
The BMW 840/850 remind me of the Mazda Eunos Cosmo. A brilliant looking car with a cool engine. It doesn't look like a thorough-bred sports car, but a car in which you can show up to both a track and a business meeting.

That car reminds me of an americanized skyline for some reason.... hmmm
And the 8 series was a remarkable car for its time, the amount of tech they crammed into it for its year was crazy. I think it has 4 wheel steer to name one. Went for originally $110,000, I found one locally with 100k km for $8500.... good thing I have self restraint hahaha! Some other time maybe
if you want a skyline in America your only legal option under 20 grand is the infiniti m30

or ziptie body panels to a custom frame I guess

people's inability to follow basic maintenance really saddens me. all it takes is a minute every so often, once a week if you have something old, maybe once a month with something newish to check the oil. it saves so much hassle and trouble just poking your head under the bonnet every once in a while to see if everything is okay.
considering there's "show me, tell me" stuff in the UK driving test the amount of people that don't even know how to fill their screenwash reservoir is fucking scary
Yeah I just arrived home. Trailer blew a tire too. Good thing I anticipated it because the tires were RUBBSIH.
First time doing brakes! Only took 5 hours for both sides! The second one took only like an hour and a half.

Good jobe
Breaks are fairly straight forward and you save a pretty decent amount doing them yourself
Didn't the old Nissan 300ZX have four wheel steering?
I believe some older gen Preludes had it. Don't think 300ZXs did.
Z32s could be had with HICAS
I had to get two tires replaced once, I bought each tire at the tire shop for $80 each. Total bill was $250. I hate tire shops.
Why do people think tires are cheap.
90% of the tires you guys buy are cheap. If 4 tires comes to $1000 or a tit over, thats a good deal to me if they're a good quality set for a DD/project
I mentioned it before, but I priced out 3 sets of tires for my truck. First set 37x12.5r20 is $510 each, second is 37x13.5R20 for $560 each, third set is 38x15.5r20 for $650 A TIRE (current tires on my truck, got 4 of them for $160 though)

They are, when I know how to take off a few bolts and figured out why the rotor was stuck. There's a pin that you can unbolt that guides exactly what orientation the wheels should go in. (you can see it on those pictures between the lug nut studs)
That and putting the caliper bracket bolts back in, they had to be lined up perfectly.
Why do people think tires are cheap.
80 bucks per tire, two tires, is 160. Another 40 or so for balancing, disposal fees, etc. That's 200. The rest is for a forced warranty. Why should I be charged for a tire shop's warranty when the tire should already come with one?
So I was driving home today when I went to pull into the passing lane on a highway. A woman whipped around a car and tried going past as I was pulling in and basically ended up getting cut off by me. I looked in my rear-view and saw her losing her shit in her seat and decided to move out of her way, except she started just riding up my ass. I speed ahead, about a quarter-mile and try to lose her by taking a different exit. Unfortunately the exit has a stop-light immediately after, which I got caught in. No big deal, right?
then she rolls up behind me and gets out of her fucking car
I'm sitting in the driver's seat, glancing between the light and my mirror as she's walking up towards my car, still flipping shit. Screaming at me and shit, all of which I can hear through my open window. As she reaches my back left door, the light turns green and I yell "BYE" and floor it damn near the whole way to my house, taking all sorts of weird roads to get back.
Today was weird.

The 'truck rice' style tires tend to be artificially overpriced.
37x12.5x16/17/18 are 100-200 cheaper each, same with the others, for the exact same tire model.

I used to spend 2 grand a set for my m6. Can't get no mastercrafts that wide. there's plenty in the neighborhood of 275/70-17 for my truck at the local used tire place thank god.
good tires are worth the money especially if you're gonna see track time.

the only time I've ever spent more than half an hour on brakes involved rounded over lug nuts, seized slide pins, a stuck piston, and a wonk master cylinder that was like a 4 pumper at best
[editline]24th April 2017[/editline]
in fact now that I think of it that car is still sitting on just 3-4 lug nuts per wheel

Took a drive to Delaware water gap a few weeks ago. Took a 15mph road with ~1000 pot holes to reach here.

what the fuck do you think is a fair price for a tire.
do you know how tires are made? it's amazing they're as cheap as they are with the work that goes into them.
and if you don't like the warranty they make you pay for then go somewhere else.

Most shops provide a warranty to cover their own ass as the tire itself has or usually has a warranty from the manufacturer. Shops also inflate prices a bit so they can turn a profit, which is understandable but ultimately stupid. 40 for a balance is so bloated you could punch the guy charging you that and the cops they call would take your side, i have never seen a balance more then a few bucks, like at worst 12 or 15. Disposal fees can be waived if you tell then you'll handle the tire yourself and shops that wont let you are trying to force the money from you. They are not legally obligated to take the tires, only to have them disposed of properly or recycled.
