I'm not kidding. Sold the Supra last friday and bought the Fiesta today. After daily driving the Supra for over a year, I felt like it was becoming more of a concern than a pleasure to drive and own.
I literally spent all my money on that car, and right now I'm just at a point at my life where I have so much other stuff I'd like to do and try. It would be another thing if I could afford to own two cars, but I just can't.
Got a new job after 7 years in Carglass, so now I work at the airport in Copenhagen, and I drive 84 kilometers a day, and that didn't help my financial situation with a car like the Supra.
I was able to sell the Supra, and for the money I could pay out my debt and buy the Fiesta with cash. I've never owned a newer car before, and I'm very happy with the little Fiesta.
Pretty sure that I will regret this in a few years, but I've done a lot of thinking, and it's definitely the right thing to do for me.
Edit:
Made a small album with photos I took through the year with the Supra:

84km? Jesus Christ find a new place to live. I commute 25km and it's a pain in the ass.
84 km isn't bad at all. I drive about 220 miles a day right now which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 350-355 km. all in my truck that gets 12 mpg on the highway
[editline]26th April 2017[/editline]
if I had been doing that since the day I got that truck I'd be just about to crest 1,000,000 miles in just 12 years

A Supra probably isn't the best daily driver. I think you made a smart choice. Considering it also saves you 7.5k annually, you could still just get a weekend/project car on the side if you want.
It saves money, trouble

i can understand it not being the 'best' daily driver, but the supra was literally made to be a highway crusher, so other than possible fuel economy issues, i can't imagine it being too hard to daily drive it (unless you mean psychologically hard due to value/rarity).
i realize we're speaking from a privileged position of observers, and that it is/was your car to do whatever you want with, but if it was me i would have lived out of it before i sold it. the mkiv is my all time dream car and i've sword to myself that as soon as i can afford to, i'm getting one and daily driving it + tracking it/driving it hard and getting everything i can out of it. i want one as a forever car.
i can barely imagine selling the fr-s, let alone a car as desirable as the supra. maybe it's a different situation in europe but here in the states they're an absolute pita to find in good condition in manual

im not trying to make you feel bad but i just love those cars so much :(

The Supra might drive really well on a highway, but once you have to pay taxes and insurance for it, it becomes a nightmare. If anything breaks or needs to be replaced, you'll have to import it. It's a very expensive car to own.

i mean, i know nothing of how taxes/registration work over there, but sure insurance will be more expensive. but even with that, it's still only a 2+2 3L 6 cylinder toyota, surely insurance can't be that bad?
also, despite being a supra, it's still a toyota. surely replacement parts can't be that bad. maybe, again, i'm just speaking from the perspective of an american, but i've always heard the supra is one of (if not) the cheapest of the japanese supercars to own.

We as Americans are entirely spoiled by insurance rates. You will often pay more than the car's value every year in insurance in most other countries. (Pls correct me if I'm wrong, Joost.)

i've heard that's the case in britain, but i was under the assumption that even if insurance rates were also high in other parts of europe, that it was at least more affordable than there
The issue is that the car is expensive to insure because it is a supra, not because of it's engine size. Had the same issue with my e36, so I just have responsibility coverage.
in the states the cars make and model don't matter much unless it's a car that gets a lot of claims like a camaro. all that matters is as far as the vehicle itself goes is the value of the vehicle, how many doors it has, how many seats it has, how big the engine is, and whether or not it's been modified.
supras, being that they're not too common and drivers here don't tend to daily them, don't get a lot of claims, they're 2+2s same as any old economy car, and they've got a very small engine by american standards, so they're cheap as hell to insure
Yeah. He knows his situation best but it just kinda shocked me to read because the Supra was one of our resident really-cool-cars.

Plus the Supra is getting close to being a classic which saves you a good amount depending on your state, and the price skyrocketing is starting to keep them out of the hands of idiots, so hopefully that will help a bit as well.
I'm about a year away from getting a FD (need to find a place with a garage so I don't have to park it on the street first), and they aren't bad here either as far as insurance goes. I'm not really sure how the rotary engine is accounted for in terms of engine size.
Supra's got a bit of a problem with a "ricer racer" reputation, which means you'd have to be well in your 30's before insurance companies believe you're not gonna crash it while street racing or generally driving like a dick.
Meanwhile something like a Audi A4 with the V8 gasoline engine thats almost as old is easy to insure without having to bend over and biting the pillow despite also being fast and maneuverable.
yeah and tbh the stereotype of teenagers and bmw etc is just ridiculous, only 6 out of my 7 fuck ups happened in a bmw.
Speaking of e36s, I've got one that I'm planning on potentially moving cross country with within a few months. I've got everything you would need to fix a flat, and am taking it to a mechanic's to be inspected for any potential problems.
Other than that though, do you guys have any tips for maintenance on the road/things I should be taking with me? Or hell, even just advice on cross-country journeys in general?
Provided it's been maintained regularly and the cooling system has been serviced properly, you shouldn't have any issues. Despite what people may think, the e36 and m50/m52 platform are extremely robust, reliable motors, and the car itself is not usually subject to drivetrain failures. It sounds to me like you've taken the necessary steps to ensure a casual, easy trip to your destination. Best of luck, friend.
I can personally guarantee that e36s aren't bulletproof. not literally anyway. the one my buddy got for dirt cheap has a few bullet holes in it. par for the course when you buy a car from new orleans
On the topic of BMWs, I should have a 2011 E87 Diesel coming soon

I've heard this joke so many times. Basically every time I mention the model. Funny thing is it's on a Dodge platform.
Clean that bish and get all ur money
It's a huge massive cleaning endeavor that I just don't have the time or mental stamina to do. I get all stressed out the moment I step inside the thing. I don't really want to put any more effort into this rig.
Change windshield.
The one that's currently in is starting to fail in the lower right corner. I have several good ones, I only need to buy a new rubber trim
Change the rubber trim on the rear side windows.
They are old and cracked up as hell
Done and done
yes
Also now I have chrome trim around all the windows. Pix tomorro', it's late as fuck now.

Not that much left tbh.
Few small jobs, one big and one kinda big
Anyone have experience with plasticip or similar products? Good or bad experience?
I fucked up by using a thinner that would make over spray dry up before it hit the car, so I ended up with a shitty fuzz near the mirrors.
But plastidip did a really good job of sealing in any imperfections and any rust spots in the paint. I used a wire brush, "rust eater" and some body filler and the rust was gone for the remaining 8 months the car lived.
[editline]27th April 2017[/editline]
Ldesu how did that license thing go
Finally made a quick video of my stupid ass method of cleaning parts. Haha.
