$6500 is a steal for that ram, holy shit. I'm jealous
I got offered $16500 for it today.....
The cash would be nice, but you dont see deals like this often, and I'd just turn around and try to find another one like it.
Really hard decision.... make 10k in a day
I see 30 year old 7L diesel fords with 300K+ (miles!) for that money because everyone selling used trucks is fucking stupid
Trek is right, supply and demand. Low supply of nice examples because.... they're trucks! They get used! Either miled out or beat to shit, or ran into the ground. People will pay a premium for nice examples, myself included.
Thats why most of these trucks have such a high/low market, lots of beat ones and few nice ones, unlike nice/rare cars because theres a higher chance people will take care of those
[editline]14th May 2017[/editline]
@DP, if you're hard on your vehicles then a solution is to get an incredibly nice example. The worse condition a vehicle is in, the harder I beat on it.
At least thats how I work anyways
and kinda learn from your mistakes like you brought up haha
Need some advice on a starter delay issue.
Turn key, nothing happens for ~5 seconds, then starter kicks in like normal.
Those 5 seconds, there is no dimming of any sort.
Only happens after sitting for hours on end.
Checked battery cables everywhere. All good, but cleaned anyways.
My alarm - has a starter kill relay. Easy to bypass. Tested the relay, iffy on the results.
Starter - could be a contact issue. Easy to rebuild.
Not sure where to start. Bypass my starter kill and see how it goes?
If i'm not mistaken, i can simply run a jumper between the ignition and starter sockets on the relay plug, correct?
I've seen solenoids be late to the party before.
I would wire up a 12v light to the output coil side of your solenoid and one to the high current output side of the solenoid and see if only 1 light will come on followed by the other light or no lights.
If 1 light lights up and the other one follows 5 seconds later, its your solenoid.
If they both light up and nothing happens, its your starter.
If no lights, you fucking better pray to the ignition or alarm gods.

Rest in peace. You were about as fun to drive as a lawn mower but you got me where I needed to go. :frown:
Whats wrong with it aside from the door?
Airbags are deployed which makes it totaled and impossible to sell, even when they're fixed.
Wow, that sucks. Isnt it possible to replace airbags?
Any woodworkers in here?
Even if it's fixable in a sense, it's probably better off just being written off anyways

Also valon, you're in Alberta right? Ever seen any Datsuns Z or ZX cars? I live in BC and I find very few.
Theres one that a guy DDs at a tireshop 5 minutes from me, the 1977 or whatever version with the weird recessed headlights.

If im looking for something specific I do a canada wide kijiji search. The black one in medicine hat for $4250 looks pretty good!
Gotta watch out with them because im pretty sure they commonly rot out really bad

If it's an old ford, check the ignition lead to the relay and see if the delay is there. DP's light test trick will work fine.
If thats fine and the relay is working, disconnect the lead that goes to the starter motor and go to crank, if there is a delay move up to the relay. If still a delay just keep moving up till you find no delay, that wire will likely be your culprit.
If it's a solenoid switch type like all normal manufacturers use, disconnect the ignition wire and check that. If there is no delay there, use the test light on the positive contact on the starter and wiggle and move the cable near the contacts, it may be poor connection issues. Check both at the starter and the cable side at the battery. Also check the short wire from the relay to the starter motor to see if the contacts in the relay part of the solenoid is causing your problem.
You said no lights dim so that tells me it's a no-contact problem and not excessive resistance or over amp draw.
Could also be shot brushes in the motor.
Wow, that sucks. Isnt it possible to replace airbags?
Worth more than another used car in similar condition pre-crash
They wouldn't be selling them for that much if people weren't buying them for that much.
Dumb and dumber :v:
That Ram that Valon got was a sweeet deal though. Less miles than my car and slightly better condition than when i got it for only a grand more. With a bed enclosure even!
Fuuuuuuuuck
I was on the phone with the manager of a dealership to schedule a independent mechanic to come and look at a 2007 Audi A4 Avant with a 6spd. And litterly 5 min after hanging up and feeling good on the inside due to its a perfect everything he calls back saying it's sold.

It's a solenoid type starter.
I pulled the starter kill relay to test it, and I'm not sure on the results.
The NO read infinite as it should.
One NC contact read 0.00 ohms, the other 0.08 ohms.
Most sites say they should be near zero, but no specific numbers.
Been working a ton, no time to really test things

My dad got side-swiped in a Subaru Outback not very hard. The airbags deploying wrecked the pillars and wrote the car off.
The more I work on this MR2, the more I just want to drop the engine.
hahaha, happy day
I thought my CX500 was making rattley cam chain noises like it used to, and I was concerned because it had just gotten louder. After changing the oil and not finding any disassembled bolt head chunks, and adjusting the valves and chain tensioner, I took it for a ride and still heard the rattle. Then I discovered that it was my right highway peg rattling the whole time, and it had recently gotten worse because I smacked it on my car's push bar pulling in last week. Now back to romping the piss out of it without worrying about doing this any more than it already is:

Wooop got a $200 deposit on my RV. I don't hand over the paperwork until I get the full $1500. Guy didn't even haggle.
Ready to buy my first car. Looking at a 1999 Honda Civic for $5,000. 73,000 miles with only one previous owner and no reported accidents. I don't know anything about cars but I've heard Civics and Accords are known for their reliability and abundance of available parts. Looks like it was kept in amazing condition too. Could I do better with a $5,000 budget? Just looking for a car that will be easy to maintain and will last me until I finish college and get a better job.
You could do way better than a 1999 Civic for $5000. :v: Post your local Craigslist and we can find you 100 better ideas in that price range.
5k for a 99 Civic regardless of miles is overpaying imo

Ha, appreciate it. I'm truly clueless. I was drawn to the civic because of the relatively low mileage. I set my budget to $5,000 because I was told I wasn't going to get anything but junk for at my original budget of $3,000. Also a little nervous buying from CL to be honest. I'm afraid of getting shafted due to my lack of knowledge on what to look for in a used car.
Holy shit, you're in a gold mine for old Dodge trucks.
Anyway, at a glance (since I'm at work) there is an 03 Subaru which would serve you way better than the Civic ever could. https://westmd.craigslist.org/cto/6102396560.html I don't know if you're specifically looking for a sedan but if not this would be worth a look.
The inspection is out but he claims it will pass. I'd pressure him to take it and get it inspected before I gave him any money. I don't know a lot about Subarus but I think they are generally respectable cars, someone here can probably advise you better on that than I can.
5k is overpaying for any year of civic with any amount of miles

HOW DOES THIS EXIST
IN THIS STATE OF REPAIR
This.... this isn't supposed to happen. Something, somewhere, is going horribly, incredibly wrong for someone, because the cosmic balance has been shifted hard by an immaculate neon still pludding arouns.

I appreciate you taking the time. I'm not dead set on a sedan, but I am looking for something fuel efficient. I should probably mention that I have family and friends about 120 miles away that I would like to be able to see a few times a year. Gas cost, maintenance, and reliability are my biggest factors right now. Don't really give a shit about aesthetics or features. I do like smaller cars because I'm kind of a shit driver and have terrible spacial awareness, so sometimes I have trouble parking my dad's truck.
