I thoroughly enjoy eating tins of mackerel, 200g, John West brand. Can anyone tell me about the nutritional info in relation to my bodybuilding, specifically if I can eat one tin of this a day towards my daily diet and not become a fatty-bum-bum. Here's the info: Nutritional Info (per 100g) Energy kJ 704 Energy kcal 169 Protein(g) 12.9 Carbohydrate(g) 5.8 Sugars(g) 4.6 Fibre(g) 0.3 Fat(g) 10.4 Saturates(g) 2.1 Polyunsaturates(g) 2.1 Omega-3(g) 1.5 Sodium(g) 0.4 I'm eating 2x this amount per tin bear in mind.
Seems pretty healthy. It has quite a bit of fat, but it`s good fats, like all fish. Lots of protein too. It`s a really good afte workout food. But like seith said, don`t overdo it on the fish, there`s mercury and other things in it that if you do it too much for too long there is a chance (a small one, but still) it can lead to some problems in the future. I think a tin a day is fine, but anything more would probably be crossing the line. [editline]26th February 2011[/editline]
How important is it to eat before and after working out? Never really thought much about when I ate, just made sure I eat as much protein as I can (still not a lot though), didn't eat too much (trying to lose fat).
I think the most important bodybuilding meals are breakfast and post-workout. By the time you workout, you should have consumed some carbs and protein, but nothing within at least 45 minutes or so of working out. Right after your workout, you should have some quick digesting protein like whey isolate, and then 15-30 minutes later try some complex carbs, something like pasta with some steak or lasagna. Carbs and protein and both very important since this is what your muscles use. You shouldn`t go to workout hungry, and you should have some protein and carbs right after the workout. What I do, is bring a protein shake and a banana, or some almonds. And I have that right after the workout.
What is the best method of bulking up? I understand pounding carbs and protein and whatever, but what all should I eat, and how often should I work out? I've got plenty of protein, mainly from beef and lamb, and I'm working out every other day. So far I've managed to lose 10 pounds, but I'm definitely putting on some muscle. I'm trying to get myself out of the scrawny nerdy look. I'm 165 pounds now and 6'2". I feel like that is pretty poor.
that's not too bad. I started working out at the weight of 150 and i'm like 6 ft. The best way to bulk is to eat at a calorie surplus. Eat more then you think you're burning. Good foods would be ones that have a lot of carbs, calories, and protein like peanut butter, red/white meat, nuts, etc. I'm probably going to make a bulking and cutting section on here because it pretty much is nutrition.
Dammit metabolism. I eat a shitton of peanut butter as well. Guess I just need to eat even more.
I am one of those people that can eat anything and not gain weight. and I do have a balanced diet i would say. Yet i still weigh a scary, unhealthy 105 LB

Eat anything in your way, have a fun.

So along with the beef and lamb you have, add some rice, or pasta. Eat often and eat lots, have nutritious snacks like a peanut butter banana sandwich along with a baggie of almonds. Drink lots of milk, etc. [editline]26th February 2011[/editline] If you`re trying to bulk up you can pretty much eat whatever really, don`t eat too dirty but you can have chips and burgers here and there. Try to work out 4-5 times a week.
Dammit metabolism. I eat a shitton of peanut butter as well. Guess I just need to eat even more.
I feel you, bro. I have an insane metabolism and have been trying to reach 180 for a month and I was 179 for like two weeks of it. Basically, you have to never stop eating
Haha, the more you guys respond to me the more I realize I have been on a bulking diet all my life. I've drunk a gallon of milk every day since forever. Oh we'll, I'm okay with having an excuse to eat constantly.
I've drunk a gallon of milk every day since forever.
my god do you have terrible acne
Anyone (unless you have a serious medical condition) can gain weight. How much do you eat per day, and what?
well ive stepped up what ive been eating in the last few months but. I usually start the day with a bowl of oatmeal, and a glass of milk (maybe coffee instead of milk). Or 4 pieces of bacon with french toast and some milks I then have pizza, a soda, then i buy a bottle of water to drink for the next hour after lunch. I get home, i snack on something, like chips, some kind of pastries. Then dinner roles around, i usually have chicken, and mashed potatoes with a side of something else. its not always chicken, sometimes its fish or some kind of red-meat like pork chops. I THEN usually at night after dinner, i do some push ups, you know the 100 push ups challenge thing? well you do 20 or so push ups, stop for 30 seconds, and do it again until you reach a certain number for that day. (i usually do 120-150 in total) after that i try and eat something with a lot of protein, so usually that muscle milk shit or I eat cheese and bread and add up the proteins to make sure i eat at least 15g's of it. AND I stay between 101-105 pounds. so I would say I have eat a fair amount of food.

You eat the same, and workout the same way all the time. Your body got used to it, he uses the calories to their full potential thus making you stay at the same weight range. If you want to go up in size, and for starters at least, you look like you eat enough, you need to start hitting the weights. Doing pushups is shit. As a beginner, if you start hitting the gym reguraly with a normal routine, of whatever kind, you'd go and gain weight. Even rubbing your balls with a wrist-weight would grow your forearms.

It did help me add on a 4 pounds which have not gone away, so which is good, still dangerously unhealthy. and I try and step up my servings everyday.
disregard most of what he said but i honestly doubt youre eating as much as you think.
eh not really, i really do eat that much. my brother was exactly like this, and so is our mom, and our grandfather, and anyone else who is genetically related to my moms side of the family. I mean im so skinny, if you look at my wrist you can see were the radius and ulna connect to the carpals, which just looks freaky.
disregard most of what he said but i honestly doubt youre eating as much as you think.
I ate half the protein amount he had, and twice the carb amount, and gained weight like a mother fucker, and that's including the weight room. I'm gonna go with VQ35HR's advice. on this one. and to CasusV2 I have no idea how either, I like to know, i really would, but i have no idea how.
I just started the push ups literally a month ago. It did help me add on a 4 pounds which have not gone away, so which is good, still dangerously unhealthy. and I try and step up my servings everyday.
also step up the working out, the pushups thing is good for a beginner but you gotta start hitting a gym also, you may be complaining about your high metabolism now, but when you are gaining weight and most of it is muscle, you will be happy. most people are skinny-fat and gain fat much easier than you.

I know, that's what I claimed in the earlier Weightlifting/BB thread. That's why I argued and said he should start gyming reguraly, rather than adding extra food to his diet. If I understood what his diet is, I bet he'd gain no problem at least for a few months.
you have no idea how to eat milk and chicken breast? or is it the starting strength ?
I think he was talking about his high metabolism. Some people are just like that bro, he just needs to step up the calories and hit the gym and he`ll see results. If he sticks with it he has potential for something great, high metabolisms are desired among bodybuilders.
you have no idea how to eat milk and chicken breast? or is it the starting strength ?
no, the your "body some how finds a way to defy laws of thermodynamics" also luckily, I literally have a min-gym next door to my room in the house. equipped with weights, performers, bikes, and other things.

If he is eating that much right now, without hitting the gym, his body is burning all the calories ingested. If he starts going to the gym everyday, he will use way more calories and will be at a calorie deficit if he keeps eating the same, which=weight loss.
