Damn son, I wish I lived in your state.
ITT: a bunch of kids who have never had to work a day in their lives vs. the rest of us who bust our asses to survive.
Seriously, I unload trucks for kohls, I usually start working at 6 am, sometimes even 5 am, I bust my ass and make 7.25 an hour, which is about 2.50$ an hour LESS than the supposed "living wage" in my county.
I mean goddamn, there are times when I will literally have less than 10$ to feed myself for the next TWO WEEKS. Removing minimum wage would fuck over a LOT of people, such as myself, the kind of people who sometimes have to steal food from the grocery store because they cannot afford it, those of us making minimum wage.
OP (and everyone else who is advocating the removal of minimum wage) missed the part that corporations do not give a single FUCK about most of their employees, if you're not happy with what you get paid they will drop your ass and find someone else to do your job for less money with no trouble at all.
Don't even bother, OP will just make some messed up argument trying to justify it.
The minimum wage in Australia is $15.15 an hour, or $589 a week for a 40 hour week. Australia has one of the best cost of living and quality of life rating's in the world. Read into that what you will.

Not in the city. Also welcome back.
Dear op,
You are an idiot, minimum wage protects us from being fucked over by employers.
And yes it does impact volunteer work, but honestly that's VOLUNTEER work, it's not meant to be paid for, you do it to help your community out you prick. Honestly I've made less than minimum wage (agriculture jobs are exempt from minimum wage laws, and guess why did back breaking manual labour in the middle of boo fu land nowhere hours from civilization? I did.) 6.25 an hour and honestly I felt ripped off because it was bullshit hard as hell work for less than normal pay. I could have a coushy job in a fast food place for 1.25 an hour more if not even more than that. You've probably never worked a day in your life so get off your ass, get out of the basement, try working for a living and fuck off. You're a horrible person who knows nothing about realistic society, just theoretical society. There's a difference.
Worst wishes and much hatred,
Everyone who's not an idiot

I don't think anyone's going to be scared of spiders that are measured in milimeters, sorry bro.
I'm going to make on how to have a good argument
that doesn't end in retarded flame wars

I can measure the Eridanus Supervoid in millimeters.
I live in the State with the best minimum wage.
I fucking work my ass off at jobs and for $8.67, I don't believe in removing minimum wage.
Work a day in your life part-time. Then you'll see why you're dumb.
Fuck yeah Washington!
How so? Can you provide an argument?
With no minimum wage, a job paying $0.10 an hour=Perfectly legal.
honestly after reading(lol skimming) the entire thing, I feel that a lot of people here are just giving op shit because they really really don't understand
it becomes more clear that everyone citing personal work hours/superficial claims and using them as a premise for a larger argument of the controversy minimum wage doesn't really dive deeper into the complexity of macroecon; maybe abolishing minimum wage is wrong, but it won't really be for these/your reasons.
in any way, op presents kind of an okay(eh) argument, that some of you misconstrue as some ill-conceived insult to your values and livelihood, when really, like someone said, it's just an econ 101 essay with at least enough merit to not deserve so many boxes. the truth is, no one really knows, there are only arguments and awkward evidence- such is the nature of economics as a study.
but that said, I've never come to really realize how sensitive of a topic minimum wage was to a lot of people; judging from how surprisingly emotionally-charged this topic is, maybe from like a socio-political perspective it is incredibly relevant?

Did you really think this through when you wrote this? It's common sense; most companies will lower their pay as much as possible to save costs. The gap between the rich and power would widen by miles overnight.
There might occasionally be a "good" company that pays its employees properly, but everyone would want to work for them and no jobs would be available except for the very highest bidders.
This is generally just a terrible idea and quite frankly, anyone in politics who suggests this has no business in a leadership position.
What I don't understand is who the fuck came up with the idea that there is an actual value to anything? It's all atoms when you boil it down, so really, where did our human minds come up with these "values". I refer to the many currencies and gold of course...
Who Does Minimum Wage Harm Most?
It harms the low class worker with few or no skills. I feel as though I should qualify that with more specific groups. Teenagers are low skilled workers for obvious reasons, they have low skills and no work experience. Low skilled workers are comprised of high school drop outs, illegal immigrants, the handicapped, and the elderly. Certainly there are exception to this, there may be some high school drop outs who are very successful. But in general there is no reason to believe an individual with few or no skills is likely to be successful.
Really? I guess then people have absolutely no ability to learn or increase their skills. Low skill workers could also be people who have yet to learn skills, such as those in apprentice or in university. Everyone starts out with few or no skills, learning takes time.

his argument went to shit when OP started, but after he justifies child labor and illegal labor, I find it impossible to support.

How is this even a counter-argument, its practically just a smart-ass remark
thats as dumb as saying "But if murder was made legal, it wouldn't be illegal now would it?"
"But if cocaine was made legal, it wouldn't be illegal now would it?"
"But if rape was made legal, it wouldn't be illegal now would it?"
"But if child molestation was made legal, it wouldn't be illegal now would it?"

does anyone even realize that the majority of people living in this country would be the ones being screwed by this making it literally impossible to pass unless it was a dictatorship?
This is a very funny thread.
Yeah! Let's abolish minimum wage! While we're at it, let's start hiring people for $4 an hour again, because that's so goddamn smart. Why not get rid of taxes, too? I mean, that only holds companies back, right?
:downs:

Lets also make people pay to get hired and remove taxes for the rich, then tax the shit out of the poor.
also, legalize drugs, child prostitution, rape, guns, child labor, since we rich folk ain't affected anywhose! Not like anyone will be affected by that there.

Rich people still do drugs, get prostitutes, rape and use guns.
Oh good! Now I can earn $0.0000001 an hour instead of $10! GREAT IDEA.

rich kids wont be affected anyways, so what would change?
Most of the people here are practically children or just were children. Children with good education and food for free and now you are advocating child labor.
What the fuck is going on in peoples heads.

I'm 17 and need employment for a car so I can get a better job, as a welder, and an apprenticeship.
if I'm not payed minimum wage, thats going to take me a LONG TIME CONSIDERING I would be paid shit despite HONEST WORK. So FUCK OP.
About guns, honestly you know that criminals arn't going to stop using guns in crimes if you made them illegal right? They're CRIMINALS, they don't GIVE A SHIT about the law, they plan to break it anyway dumbass.
Same with minimum wage, make it illegal you know people arn't going to get paid more, they don't give a shit and don't even have to pay them anyway.
Now a smart company (probably a small business) would try to give higher wages to people, use it as a reason for people to buy from them (humanitarian company) and have more workers, IF we got really lucky and this worked you'd see a fall of most larger companies and a rise of small business, which the chances of that happening are so damn slim that you're better off trying to find a microscope powerfull enough to find lankist's dick.

OP, that is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Minimum wage keeps the workers from only being paid $4 for their work.
You obviously have no idea how an economy works. Employers don't control minimum wage, inflation does.
My father used to always tell me that when he was working back in the 70's and 80's, minimum wage was well around $3-$4, which doesn't seem like much, however the cost of living was significantly lower back then. If anything, minimum wage needs to be raised considerably. You used to be able to support yourself and have a basic place to live on minimum wage, now you need to make at least $11 an hour to be able to afford a 1 room apartment.
If there was no minimum wage, people would not be able to afford anything. Plain and simple. Ironcially, minimum wage jobs are the ones that require you to do the most.
I used to be against minimum wage laws, food stamps and public healthcare.
Then I started living on my own and realized how seriously fucked you can be without such services.
