I lol'd at all the "Viva la vida is awesome" posts.
It's not even their song. They stole it from Joe Satriani.

That melody is rather simple, it's coincidence.
That melody is rather simple, it's coincidence.
It's simple on the base level that it doesn't contain a lot of notes. The fact that the timing, phrasing and intonation matches up perfectly is not coincidence.

Actually, at a few points they diverge, so they're not the same.

You know, I was jamming out my own guitar one time. And then I heard a song that sounded exactly like what i was playing about a week later. But since I played my song after they played theirs I'm obviously stealing melody.
Viva La Vida is a good album.
It's not a similarity.
The melody is exactly the same. One hell of a coincidence, it just so happens to be in the same key, have the same phrasing and innotation, oh and the exact same timing too.
So what? They copied them, yes. It's still a good song.
Edit:
Exactly. Coldplay are a good band. I prefer the Kaiser Chiefs, but that's me. Although I'd like to hear your feelings on the Kaiser Chiefs Splurgy, I have this rough idea you like them.
Oh, and Viva la Vida is awesome. And I mean the album.
I love the Kaiser Chiefs! Never miss a beat is really good. They've got a knack for writing catchy song.

Weather it's good song or not is not the point.
If you do someone else's song, you have to pay them. That's how the music business works.
Coldplay's obivously got the money, they're just a bunch of arrogant pricks that didn't want to admit doing a cover song.
Coldplay are meh, but Chris Martin is a pretentious douche.
I should be on my way to Manchester to see them tonight!
My mate has a spare ticket and was gonna give it to me free of charge but they are all getting a hotel and going out in Manchester afterwards and I just don't have that kinda cash at the moment, was well gutted!

Yes, you have to pay up if you're doing someone's song. We've established that. But since this is the music forum as opposed to the "discuss how douche-y people are" forum, I think we should just focus on the music and not on what you think of Chris Martin.
Can the trolls in this thread quit bitching about the similarity in songs and generally hating Coldplay and get out of the thread? This is a thread for Coldplay fans. Not a fan? Then fuck off, we don't care about your opinion.
Also, I'm updating the thread to include Prospekt's March.
Here's a live performance to savour.

I'm no fan of Coldplay's new stuff, however 'Parachutes' and 'Rush Of Blood To The Head' were fantastic.
Viva La Vida was alright though.
I love coldpaly but fat boyslim is also good :q:
This thread seems to be thriving with posts.
I hated Coldplay before I really started to listen to them. When I first made my last.fm account, there was only one Coldplay song (Talk) that I liked, and didn't want to have it seen on there for fear of being labeled a "Coldplay" fan. 3 months later they're by far my top artist.
I just love this band. They really are GREAT. One song I love at the moment is the hidden song "Chinese Sleep Chant", located on the "Yes" track on Viva la Vida. Reminds me alot of the 80's band My Blood Valentine.

Damn you Cold play, Damn you...
Other than that, Their albums are phenomenal.
If you ask me, they fucking suck.
Then don't post.
I REALLY want to get all thier albums but the lack of funds is making that hard.
Coldplay are #4 in my top bands.

Yeah, he really adds nothing to that song.
Actually, he takes away from it.
I love Viva La Vida so much. It is probably one of the deepest songs that I have ever heard (many people will disagree, but it relates to me)
Clocks also owns.
