What Happened At Vidcon? I Met Anita Sarkeesian (boogie2988)

Not much of a wrist slap if he apologized for it.
Whatever your opinion is on him, you never signal out anyone for the audience and attack them on the podium where you hold more power than them
she could of ignored him, could've just not even fucking looked at him but she did. I don't like Sargon but he has the right to sit and listen to whatever open forum he wants, and he was being really respectful about it too
its ironic that Anita said that boogie shouldn't have said that thing because no one would have had the chance to respond because Sargon had no chance to respond either
I'm seething with unpleasant emotions right now.

He still acknowledge that she broke the rules though, which is more than I thought he would do.
I could see some Youtubers not attending next year's VidCon over this obvious selective rule enforcement.
She denied Boogie a picture because she didn't like where he stood on issues, what in the actual fuck
vidcon seems like such a joke
"I wanted to remind everyone in the audience that i'm a person of privilege, as a white CIS male"
It feels so strange it has come that far that he actually felt like he needed to end his panel with this line.
Like damn, he seriously didn't had to say that.. at all
these two images from vidcon make me laugh every time even though i dont like sargon or anita

i like how the clapping immediately dies down and people gasp when she calls him a garbage human.
I would like to feel sorry for Boogie but I can't.
He literally physically capitulated to an imaginary set of sleights before he even arrived. Maybe if he feels that these things are worth talking about and these things are worth picking a side on, that he should be resolute in speaking on why these things are important to him.
And he didn't.
This is as much on him as it is on her.
You don't let assholes run your life, and you don't let assholes dictate what your message is.
She played him like a fiddle and he let her, right down to her actually telling him what his message "is supposed to be" even she obviously doesn't know him from a hole in the ground.

I mean, he still got the message that he wanted to say out, even if he had to police his language a bit. Anxiety sucks, and sometimes you have to compromise just to get a handle on it.
I don't blame him for wanting to avoid confrontation with someone who is well known to stir shit up at the drop of a hat. Honestly I applaud him for even going up, because I would have just cancelled the second I knew I'd be sharing a panel with her, but he went up regardless because he had something he wanted to say.
It's brave that he went up still, yes.
But she essentially said "if you were thin you'd have no ground at all because you as a person basically suck not because what you feel, and experience and say but because of your appearance."
His response was basically "well shucks" instead of "my voice has just as much meaning and gravitas as yours, and your "rights" end with your nose."
Last time I checked not only did Sarkeesian not invent feminism or activism or inclusivism (of which she does not actually subscribe to), she doesn't even own the copyright to it.
That he has to preface all of this with "Sarkeesian is right" like three times is pretty telling. If he feels his cause and message is just, he needs to act like it, anxiety or not. He's done it before, pretty sure he can do it again, and if she doesn't appreciate it, that's not his problem.

Yeah I'll give you that. I really hope he realized how awful she is, and in fact I'm pretty sure he actually does. If he's on his own youtube channel, he should have no problem saying "okay this was actually bullshit that this happened"
It's definitely something I've been guilty of in the past, appeasing people I disagree with just to avoid conflict. It's not a good habit for sure, and it's definitely not a good way to promote something you believe in.
She denied Boogie a picture because she didn't like where he stood on issues, what in the actual fuck
that's not what he said tho. there is a measurable difference between what you post here and what boogie actually said was her response and it is important to note it.
im not a fan or sarkeesian by any means, but I take boogie at his word

He isn't even privileged as he was apart of an abusive poor family, that's like the antithesis. This whole "white straight people are inherently better off" bullshit needs to stop.
I preferred the internet without this kinda bullshit tbh
Looks like Polygon wrote an article in favor of Sarkeesian for "fighting back" against Sargon, who was there to (allegedly) record footage for his latest critique video and (possibly) to heckle her. Polygon's reasoning, not mine.
Strange that Polygon would continue to write articles that has really opinionated terms in them.
I wonder if this is first of many articles that are suspiciously similar.
I preferred the internet without this kinda bullshit tbh
The internet is but a megaphone for it, though the sound gets regurgitated and amplified further via the megaphone.

I think this shit gets me particularly sad because I used to see the internet as a kind of neutral ground, where social/political bullshit wasn't a huge part of it. Honestly I just want to dial back about 5 years or so and start over.

I mean, it's Sargon, he almost certainly was gonna record something to be a twat over. It's how he rolls. Having those two in the same county as each other is a fucking problem, they resonate asshole so hard that it generates a feedback loop until one of them does something utterly perplexing.
Did she ever finish her video series, or is she still riding the gravy train and trying to get attention?
I don't think so, but then again, she could put 3 volumes out of her ass and still be a stain on feminism imo.

It was there back then, just not as amplified as the internet has spread with mobile devices and social media. Assholes get viewed more because a lot of people are attracted to vinegar, though that doesn't mean people don't crave sweet growth. Most people don't care about politics unless it clearly betters or worsens their own life or the life of those they love. It's like looking at only one part of a globe and thinking all of it is boiling desert or freezing wasteland. Sure they exist, but there's far more variety and you get a greater understanding learning all of the globe. There's a lot of people who seem to only care of screwing over people, but most people care about living well and interacting with what and who they love.

Disappointing that the founder apologized to her for her breaking the rules.
John and Hank Green were my first introduction to internetdom and I respect the everloving fuck out of them and everything they do. I am crazily disappointed to see Hank rationalise harassment from a panelist at a panel about preventing harassment. This is not tribalism, I have made it clear: I love Hank Green and dislike Sargon.
It feels so strange it has come that far that he actually felt like he needed to end his panel with this line.

I feel annoyed that he fell victim to that dumb rhetoric
i'm not calling boogie dumb either, I'm more disappointed because its a dumb idea that people created specifically to make people like him, who don't deserve it, feel shitty about themselves for the way they are
I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in the same building with Sargon of Akkad
lmao, grow up
Heres the thing about the Sargon part, you might hate Sargon, you might despise Sargon, but do you know where the time and place it is to call him out and call him a terrible person is?
Not at an anti-bullying, anti-harassment panel in which he's quietly observing as an audience member. That defeats the entire point of the panel.

response to critisim from the previous vid
Man, I have a ton of respect for this guy. Dude handles criticism better than anybody I know. The world would be a much better place with more open minded, level headed, positive people like him around.

When you really think about it this perfectly summerizes Anita
Call someone out, as well as insult them at an anti-bullying panel, and then call them being there "harassment"
It sounds so fucking retarded that its satire of itself. It's exactly why Anita shouldn't be taken seriously, not even by someone like Boogie.
god boogie is such a fucking nice guy
everyone should aim to be like him god damn
Boogie is one of the very very few people I've ever seen who deserves literally zero negativity sent his way. He's done literally nothing wrong.
See, here's the thing. I don't know much about Boogie beyond his Francis videos, but I do know he was banned from Neogaf for being an early defender of gamergate. This alone was enough to get him put on "the list" once everyone took their sides, and now everything else doesn't matter. Gamergate apologist = scum, at least in some circles. In the same way, because Anita was one of the early targets of gamergate, these same people consider it mandatory to defend her in any situation as long as the other side is in some way connected to gamergate or its defense. "Gamergate hates women, led to the Alt-Right and got Trump elected, and so Boogie can't have nice things," is basically their train of thought.
Honestly, I don't even know what Boogie things about gamergate anymore. All I know is that once the shitstorm began and lines in the sand were drawn, he was literally written off by certain segments of the internet.

In times like this I find it best to determine that other video game journalist sites that write similar articles to Polygon to be the truth and only the truth. Of course anything else claiming to be truth is just a facade to spread hate!
