I finished Stardust lately, having had it on pause at D'arby for a month or so trying to watch upto that point with housemates. Got bored and marathoned what I had left, fuckin' loved it.
Picked up Phantom Blood in hardback recently too, really pretty books and it's interesting reading the manga having seen the anime first and seeing how absurdly similar they are.
The anime is really faithful.
Probably one of the most faithful adaptations out there

To almost it's detriment, to be honest- I don't watch much anime, but the amount of explaining what just happened (as necessary as it can be at times) is absurd in the show. It makes sense in a novel, but on film where everything's moving you can just have scenes explain themselves. Combine that with anime talking time (where the scene is playing behind a character but nothing happens until they stop talking), and you have a kinda annoying series of sections. Not that I mind too much, it's just a nitpick I developed over the 20 episodes I watched.

honestly I find slo-mo exposition hilarious
especially when it gets longer and longer over the course of a fight

Yeah, had to amend my post with the point I was trying to make- in a manga, where things are complicated and static, explanations need to happen and I'm fine with that. When you have an extremely faithful adaption, said narration carries over as well, but because it's a moving medium there's a lot more room to SHOW than you need to TELL. I dunno though, kinda just whining at this point.

It's funny, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I feel like tapping the right of my dpad (I watch the show on my wii u) just to skip through to the next action scene.

Bad idea, fights get much more complicated with Stands. Especially after Part 3.

Well, I'd skip after reading the subtitles at the bottom :v: We'll see how the episodes go once I start Stardust.

This, I believe, is the heart of my problem with the pacing of the Stardust Crusaders anime.
It was kind of excusable in the first two parts, to me, but in part 3 it just became really bleh. It just seemed to flow much more nicely in the manga.
More Sub-Characters confirmed for Eyes of Heaven

reading my way through part 4 at the minute and it's really hard not to imagine the sfx and fight music from the show in my head
I just finished part 6. I really liked most of it but [sp]that ending is such a bullshit cop-out.[/sp]
Here's more glimpses of Story mode in this video [sp]and Heaven Dio[/sp]
Started watching the anime a week or so ago, currently in ep 10 of Stardust Crusaders. I have to say, Battle Tendency is the best shit I've seen in a while. Excellent show. When I'm done with part 3, I might have to invest on the manga.
However, it might just be my weird taste in things but I miss Hamon. It's such a cool concept.
I'd say that reading the manga might be worth your time just so you can experience how cool [sp]the spin[/sp] is in part 7.

everyone misses hamon after part 2 but the further you get into part 3 the more you'll start to understand why it was ditched, araki already did pretty much everything he could've done with it without making Jojo just another boring repetitive pull-powers-out-of-your-ass shounen

Even during Part 2, I knew that it would eventually run stale, along with the vampire zombies- I'm glad they went with a different set of powers (though that too would eventually go dry)

I don't think so. IIRC you only watched the anime, but if you read the manga you would see that stand powers can be absolutely anything.

In a couple decades maybe.
If he started making 5 new stands every issue.

And that's only because he would finally run out of music related names.
stands were getting a bit boring in part 5 and part 6 but that wasn't because the stands were boring (especially not in part 5), it was just that the MotW pacing was getting tiring at that point
good thing araki improved the pacing drastically in parts 7 and 8
I really liked the stand fights in part 5, most of them were really intense and involved enemies working in teams. Not to mention a lot of them approaching Part 3's final fight's length.
It was just lacking in every other category.
Honestly I don't think Part V is that bad, I just think its not so great translation really holds it back.
part 5 is great, the stands are the best in the series and some of the fights are just amazing
the only problems are its pacing, its translation and an underexplored main villain
Part 5's new translation by Jojo's Colored Adventures only has like 100 (give or take) chapters left to go cause they just finished part 6 of the Grateful Dead fight.
I plan on re-reading Vento as soon as the translation is done so that way I can experience it for how it actually is.

Now that I look at the actual chapter count for Vento that's a lot :vs:

Hamon is so limited in its application compared to stands, so you get over it pretty quickly.
Im just annoyed Joseph never used it as much as you'd think he would have in Part 3.

Also, why doesn't his descendants get Hamon? I know that Stands are considered "spiritual ripples," but Joseph could do both. I suppose it's such a minor plothole, but I'd still like some answer how one inherits such a thing.

Hamon is relatively useless. Sure, it's possible that all the future JoJos also had the potential to use it. But they never needed to train in it, since zombies and vampires and other such things never became a problem again. While Joseph had a tendency to use it naturally sometimes, and Jonathan also had a knack for it, they still had to practice in order to use it with any sort of reliability.
But mostly it's because hamon is irrelevant to the story now and Araki doesn't want to talk about something that doesn't matter.

Fair enough, it's just strange that both Joseph and Caesar instinctively knew Hamon despite being so separated from the ones who knew it. I know why it was removed, just wish there was a line where it was explained that they did know it (and it just wasn't useful anymore).
I'm just gonna headcanon that you need at least one parent knowing Hamon in order to have it instinctively, with [sp]Lisa Lisa being that for Joseph.[/sp] Makes sense, fits with the canon, and it's hard to retcon.
