JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: You can't escape now! You super retard!
that wouldn't make sense since [sp]ireneverse's characters are the exact same but with different names, whereas the events and characters from SBR and Jojolion are completely different, usually only sharing similar names[/sp]
[sp]It's always possible their direct interaction with and presence at the universe's shifting resulted in them existing in a very similar way to their past selves - maybe the closer this universe is time wise to the old one the closer its similarities are. The characters in Jojolion are closer to their counterparts than the SBR characters are for the most part, I think
also with SBR not being part of jojo initially it's possible araki just didn't consider then how much the new universe would be different[/SP]
edit: then again D4C makes it far more obvious there is indeed multiple, duhhh
The artwork on these are so jarring
I like it. Always enjoyed the Part 7 and 8 art styles.
well [sp]it takes place in an alternate universe which is exactly what the end of part 6 sets up, so unless araki has explicitly said SBR isn't one of those alternate universes, it's heavily implied it is[/sp]
[sp]Everyone who was alive at the time of the reset made it through to the new universe, though. And it's rather apparent that the living members of the Stone Mask universe's cast are not in JoJolion, establishing it as entirely separate from the universe ultimately created by Made in Heaven.
I don't seem to recall anything that would indicate it took place in the middle of all that, either, though. I would consider the ending of part 6 to just be an introduction to the idea of alternate universes existing in jojo, with the concept further elaborated on by D4C.[/sp]
Just wondering. Is the old OVA for Stardust Crusaders any good? The style seems to be totally different than the newer anime adaptation.
It takes some liberties with the story, but I think it's got its moments.
Last two episodes are amazing, especially since the penultimate one was directed by Satoshi Kon.
OVA's Dio's World was better

1993 OVA = Godly
-Must see - Geb & N'Doul, The World
2000 OVA = Hit and Miss
-Must see - Justice
i was gonna say
what's up with the sudden change from 195cm beefcakes to that?
It definitely wasn't sudden. The style has been slowly and steadily changing since the start in the 80s.

Natural art style evolution over time. [sp]I think the manga art from 1 and early 2 looks like shit, anime was fine though[/sp]
Since I believe Jojolion to be around half-way finished, I put in a new look at Gappy at the end here.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/e8vqEzR.png[/img_thumb]
Interesting changes in Gappy:
- Thinner face
- More rounded eyebrows
- Nose shape is beginning to somewhat resemble an updated mid-Part 4 look
- Hat design has changed.
It's been said before but I think the artstyle was best in part 4. At least in terms of facial expressions.
Honestly if Araki could combine how expressive everyone in part 4 was with his technical improvements for steel ball run it'd be perfect. SBR's got the whole "everyone's pouting all the time" issue but I don't think anyone can argue that he hasn't gotten better at drawing in general.
I think it helped that P4 was fairly laid back a lot of the time, and Josuke and Okuyasu were both really expressive characters - whereas Jolyne, Giorno and Johnny were pretty moody

I don't know, I think Jolyene had a lot less moodiness about her than the others. There's a bunch of times when she goofs around, especially after the initial shock of [sp]her incarceration[/sp] wears off. Same with Johnny later on in SBR.
So far though I'd have to say battle tendency is my favorite of the series though.
I agree with this.
For some reason I feel like part 2 felt more epic(?) than the other parts I watched.

probably has something to do with part 3 and onwards taking on more of a villain-of-the-week approach to storytelling

jotaro's mascara
it was the beginning of the end...
For the people who watched SC when it aired, do you know how much time it generally took between the episode airing and subs being out? I'm looking for an estimate since I plan on watching it with friends next friday but considering it doesn't air until like 4:30 in the afternoon in my timezone I don't know whether they'll be up by that time.

It will be on Crunchyroll so, simulcasts. Either same day or the following day most likely. I forget the exact time for SC, but I think it was in midday for me, living in the American south.
Seen how popular the thread for this show is so I decided to take a crack at it. I'm five episodes in, and honestly to me the show seems really stereotypical and very boring. I can't get invested in the drama at all because the characters seem so two-dimensional.
Does the show get better as it goes on or is it just not for me?

it gets way better after episode 9 or 10

while I loved phantom blood, it's general consensus that battle tendency is where things really pick up

Starts slow, picks up as the adaptation of the manga's first "Part" ends. Part 1 is the probably the largest obstacle a new fan has to face.
Part 1, though boring and generic, is probably one of the more important parts if not for just context and introduction.

Yeah, and I can't really blame it for being rather generic. It's a product of the 80s, and it was pretty much just Araki dicking around with the idea of vampires and prog rock references. I'm glad it's grown to what it is now.

i remember crunchy's simulcast being around half an hour after the initial airing in japan, maybe an hour

Part 1 is more or less a Fist of the North Star fanfic but in the 1800's. We've come far since then.

From my experience, the best way to look at Part 1 is as a weird Fist of the North Star ripoff that didn't really try until Araki realized he could turn stupid shit into weapons and then the series never stops getting better.
Jonathan is a boring as balls character but that only helps emphasize how insane everyone is in Part 2 and 3.
oh shit, didn't know there was a JJBA general thread on Facepunch
before I go through reading everything in this thread, can I get an affirmation that the Damo/Kira/Fumi stuff have been some of the best chapters Araki has written in the series

I don't think $1600 pants are that far-fetched, my man wears pants made entirely of snake skin later. Probably used Star Platinum to gut two anacondas and then just stomped his foot into them to make two pant-legs.

[sp]Shit's pretty rad, Damo was just some fat weirdo who is now an extremely intimidating antagonist[/sp]
