I just found out today that I am actually able to tow a trailer with my licence, with certain restrictions. The maximum load of car and trailer can't exceed 3,500Kg, the laden trailer weight can't exceed the unladen weight of the car (1,300Kg). I figure a 2L Turbo diesel should pull a trailer load of band/audio gear fine. Would save me getting a van and having another load of insuranc, tax and parking to pay. Just need to fit a towbar (This car even has points for bolting a citroen kit to, mega easy) and find a decent trailer.
Yay my GM Performance front sway bar should arrive tomorrow, will replace that broken hollow one.

I had to pass a trailer course / test before I was able to tow a trailer for an old job. With your standard license you're allowed to drive a vehicle up to 3500kgs, ie a box transit van but there's no mention of towing a trailer. I'd double check before you go ahead as you might end up with some unwanted points.
Direct Gov says that a Category B (What I have) Can:
Motor vehicles with a MAM of up to 3,500 kg, no more than eight passenger seats, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg Or, with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg. The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 3,500 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle
And for Category B+E (What you get when you pass a "Trailer test", What I don't have):
As category B but with a heavier trailer that isn't covered in the descriptions for category B
The wording isn't: "You must pass a test to pull a trailer" It's "You must pass a test to gain entitlement to B+E" - Though they only seem to recognise it as a trailer once it's heavier than 750KG. So bloody confusing. This random flowchart I found seems to back up my interpretation of the wording, though I can't easily verify it's accuracy. Of course I'll give them a ring to be sure before I spend money on a trailer and related hardware. either way, even if I needed to take a test it would still come under the bloody insurance quotes I've been getting for vans for business use. God they make it impossible it infuriates me. I think I'm interpreting this right, it's all very woolly :S Did you do a test to upgrade your license Category B+E?
Yea I had to do a week course followed by a test. It wasn't too hard but that was to tow a larger 2 axle trailer which definitely wasn't covered under the catagory B guidelines you've shown above. But it seems as if you can tow a small single axle trailer with just a normal license according to that.
FINALLY, I have a group of people coming over saturday, and the engine is coming OUT of the cobra. Should be actually on a stand, and stripped down by Monday. I actually have money saved finally, so its time to start getting to work.
Oh man, I just found a mint-condition 240 with KA24DET for $2000, stock. If I'm lucky I can visit and look at the car soon. I'm dying from anticipation. The seller says he will sell it to the one who can appreciate it most. Never driven a manual before. If I'm able to acquire this car, would make me the happiest kid around
? KA24's never came stock with a turbo.
Anyone here fairly familiar with BMW's? I've got my 1996 E38 that's got a few issues and the dopes on the various BMW-centric forums are REMARKABLY unhelpful... Essentially, no matter what the problem is, replace the MAF. Wheel's fallen off? Probably a bad MAF. Seat heater stuck on and your seat's burst into flames mid-drive? Almost certainly a failing MAF. MAF MAF fucking MAF all day long. But anyway, anyone here feel like lending a hand? Maybe you'll spot something obvious and easily checked that could be the source of my problems. Long story short, it occasionally stalls and I'm having some issues with electrics causing RPM dips, but I can go into far more detail if anyone cares to listen :)
Replace the MAF [editline]16th April 2012[/editline] :v:
So, I've got a question... Why was a Honda CR-X able to get almost 50MPG in the early 90s, but cars now struggle to get upwards of 30?
I would assume due to the nature of everything ontop of a regular car now. All the electronics where before it was you, engine and maybe an air conditioner

Going to work at 4:45 in the morning (yeah I know...), steady cruise at 65km/h then suddenly it start to jerk and miss and re-go with the check engine going all wacko on my ass change the MAF, it's alright for a week, start to derp again: put the old maf, been fine since
debating what all I should do to my hatch, and in what order. I'm debating about getting it reprinted first, and then worrying about getting rims. or just get my exhaust headers and rims all in one go. I figured I'm probably going to go with a yonaka catback, it has a nice quiet tone to it. any suggestions on what I should invest into first?
Because the CRX had as much power as a VW Beetle 60-70Hp
And all of them save for the automatics in the final few years were <2000 pounds.
? KA24's never came stock with a turbo.
Perhaps he was unsure of the name, typo? Twin-cam 1993 model with just above 100K in mileage I called him to tell we're coming for a view tomorrow afternoon. He said it was purely stock and it looks like the car has been garaged all this time. Seemed like a nice guy, the drive will be an hour away so I'm stoked, can't wait.

Rather than dump a couple of hundred (Australian) dollars on a new MAF just to SEE if it might be a problem, I'd prefer to investigate some alternatives first. A lot of what my car is doing has me thinking something along the lines of an alternator or battery problem. My only issue is I'm not too big on the detailed working of cars so while I'm perfectly capable of servicing, replacing, maintaining and repairing components, it's actually working out and understanding the underlying root problem that always gets me. I just don't know enough about the various inter-relationships of components to draw what could be obvious conclusions about what's going on... Hence why I'm dubious about just replacing random parts because some bogan on a BMW forum thinks it's the way to go (not trying to offend anyone here, but I've basically been told "Replace the MAF, you can buy it here"). If I question the diagnosis they offer, I don't get a response... That just doesn't help! I could go into quite a bit of detail on exactly what it's done so far, and that might just make the root cause obvious for someone reading this. Might have to do that and see if anything stands out :)
So, I've got a question... Why was a Honda CR-X able to get almost 50MPG in the early 90s, but cars now struggle to get upwards of 30?
Because they were extremely light and had an impressive drag coefficient. You simply cannot build a car that light with todays safety requirements. You can find pictures of what happens to CRXs when involved in a wreck, even minor wrecks usually total them. Side impacts in particular are bad, things like this happen:

I'm about to paint my car. OEM Color almost everything but Matte Back on the roof (or carbon fiber), hood, and boor blades. Also might plastic dip my rim's. Who and what company supplies the best paint's that will match my paint color EXACTLY? Also color code is LY7M, N1H or BN. I cant read my options sheet very well. Take it to a body shop and have them give you the match of the color. [Editline]april 16[/editline] Actually, it appears to be N1H.
My Dad said to choose what I want soon :excited: But now I seriously can't decide between a Wrangler or a Fustang. We found this 08 Mustang GT California Special with 33,xxx miles but it was in a collision but it's been all repaired. I'm going to call tomorrow to ask more. But do I want to go fast or go offroad, that is the question but what is the answer
Offroading is pretty fun and having a noisy open headers as fuck jeep is fun as shit when you be slangin mud. Then again, burnouts are always fun too.
See I'm so divided, off roading and mudding is a tits load of fun and being able to go anywhere and ram shit is fun but having a 300hp, 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, with a somewhat luxirious interior is also awesome with that nice V8 rumble
You're doing it wrong
That's not a real truck. i agree, join the real truck reich noodle.
I'm gonna cry. A couple hours after that 240 was posted up, it was sold. I didn't even get to see it :suicide:
http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/2962367046.html Sigh. Cheapest Si I've EVER seen in running order. I wish I had $1000.
Consider this a reserved post until i can figure out how to correctly link a facebook video :D It seems i can't embed, unsurprisingly, so can someone let me know if you can view this? Obv it's me dicking around as we prepare to leave the auto show.
