I want at least a 2000 or higher car (in year, not price.) Not for aesthetic reasons, it's my first car and I'm not expecting a Lamborghini in looks, but because the older the car the more prone to maintenance it is (something I don't know a whole lot about and after the purchase won't have a lot of income to fund)
True but with a few dollars put into maintenance, it's not really that expensive as you might think. If you're really short on dough, (like me obviously), then it's your priority to save money. There's a lot of things I can do with $1000 like help with legal fees or pay for my local college tuition. If basic transport is all you're looking for, then might I suggest an older car. Don't get Celica just for looks, you can get performance for cheaper
I did find a Honda Prelude for $6995 with 66k miles on it. 1995 Special Edition. This was the first car to catch my eye. Those any good? [editline]25th April 2012[/editline] I should mention the only drawback: It's gold. I don't like gold.
Nissan cars are master race
Gimme a couple models to run through dealers and CL.

I mean, I am a total Honda guy, but that's the ugliest Honda they made since forever, it's a great platform and all but still... Even if you enjoy the butt ugly front end on that generation of Prelude, you're still getting fucked for 2 grand at the least.
I just looked, $5000 can get you a mint-condition 240SX fastback with an R32 Skyline, (RB20) engine in it here in Los Angeles. 40,000 miles mind you.
Driving around the neighbor that the DMV does the road tests, Road testee stops at stop sign and we all know you have to fucking do the entire alphabet in your head to count it as a full stop. Anyway some asshole who is probably the typical person to roll through a stop sign at 10-15mph starts beeping the second he starts slowing down. (I was car behind the asshole). It's pretty fucking obvious it's a road test when even the sign ontop of the car says "DRIVERS SCHOOL"

KBB nets the car at around $6k tops.
Don't know about the attitude of new drivers around these parts, but I get my driver's permit next week. All my countless hours of practicing how to drive in GTA are about to pay off.
Thought the exact same thing :v:
I don't think it's that ugly, but the color is a gigantic factor for me and I hate gold. KBB nets the car at around $6k tops.
Kelly blue book is awful, go by NADA. KBB is what insurance companies use to write off shitty cars on accident claims. NADA knows what's what.
Alright. That's why I come to this subforum because people know their shit and I can make an informed purchase. Opinions on buying from private parties on CL? My dad says it's not ideal because "no car will come with a warranty, you don't get your 3 day right of recission, etc..." But dealerships are assholes, this I know.
Craigslist is fine, just know what you are looking at. I buy and trade cars on there all the time, it's how I got the Corvette, two of my CRXs that I had, my EJ1, etc.. Bought/traded tons of cars on there.
That's what I thought. And IIRC the right of recission is only for loans. So I guess I'm looking at Nissans and Hondas.

You just have to do your own research to avoid being owned
I would of course bring a mechanic to look at it. When license plates/VINs are hidden and it seems too good to be true, I get worried. Even had a car going for 2k under KBB price, but it was a salvage title and probably had a bent frame. (they said it was only radiator and bumper damage which in 99% of cases I'm pretty sure isn't totalling a car)
I got my car from an auction :v: It's kind of a gamble, but after ~6 months of owning it there haven't been any major problems [editline]25th April 2012[/editline]
Gimme a couple models to run through dealers and CL.
Sentra, Altima, Maxima. Goes from lowest class to highest class. Sentra and Altima get around 25-26 mpg, while Maxima gets around 21-22 mpg
Don't forget Acura! There's nothing wrong at all with craigslist
Anyone find that driving in the rain is more.... fun? I still get a smile out of driving through big puddles because I'm a big kid, i don't splash people though.
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2889089851.html not bad imo
There's nothing wrong at all with craigslist
That's what I keep saying I figure you bring a mechanic out to look at it, run the plates through CarFax and take it for a test drive then you've got a pretty good idea if the vehicle is good or not [editline]26th April 2012[/editline]
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2889089851.html not bad imo
A tad out of my budget - I I was thinking $7,000 max since I'll have to pay my own insurance and anything else
http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/2930991454.html Has the M Sport package too, great deal.
But I looked through and found you some options you may like http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2975076367.html http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2914874354.html http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2961464295.html

damn there is a lot of dealer spam on the denver CL don't have nearly that much on the DC one
the BMW doesn't have awful gas mileage either, not a bad looking thing [editline]26th April 2012[/editline]
damn there is a lot of dealer spam on the denver CL don't have nearly that much on the DC one
oh yeah and I can't figure out how to filter out the ones that don't have a price (e.g. the monthly payments) [editline]26th April 2012[/editline] someone already bought the silver 530i :c
but 4 realz cash money 420 smoke weed, are you open to v8 cars?
anything that's better than my dad's F250 with 12MPG hwy My criteria are as follows: Sedan or coupe required 100k-130k miles are the highest I'll buy Automatic is highly preferable but I can drive a stick relatively well (depends on how touchy the clutch is, I drove a ford ranger for awhile with a clutch that was an asshole) 18-20MPG city would be a good range to meet or exceed Four wheels, an engine, and something recent-ish (1999-2003 seems most affordable for me) Price cap is $7000 before insurance. Oh and I'd really really really like keyless entry
