the contacts in my starter in my jap truck had to be replaced once. ( in 285k miles) was at about 200k
it would give a solid thud when trying to start, not the click click click of a dead/flat battery.
Aww yeah, got my new key and thermostat gasket. Now waiting for thermostat
I waxed my car for the first time, and it looks FUCKING BAD ASS.
ran the Carfax for my sister's minivan

76 to go.
If a car passed emissions, has a clean CarFax, and had no knocks, rattles and shifted fine during a test drive, what do I need a mechanic to look at? Leaks, fluid levels?
Check spark plugs if you can't yourself. Check underneath for lots of rust. Nics or scratches in the paint
Can take some cash off if you make it serious your fixing it up
As far as I can tell the car was in really great shape. Didn't leak or anything
Plus for the majority of its life it was owned by an older lady and the guy selling it has all the service records, which is why I'm asking
The guy had no problem saying what was wrong cosmetically and said the engine was fine and considering it drove perfectly...
Check all the fluids (motor oil, tranny oil, brake fluid, antifreeze, power steering, etc.) or have your mechanic check them for you.

Got the Fel-Pro gasket and OEM thermostat ready.
I quoted a local tuner shop, will charge me $117 + coolant costs for the whole replacement. My shady mechanic is $70. I have no money fml, I might do it myself
I changed my first thermo when i was 6
Just hired a mechanic to drive out and look at that Prelude
Hoping it will be good. Thinking of trying to get it for $3500 if it comes back good. Is that a reasonable price? He's asking 4200.
If its mechanically good what about interior or exterior, IMO don't lowball him. Try 3800
That was my initial price, but it does have a cracked windshield and some rust spots. Interior was mint though

Still think you could get a beefier car for that price. I know I can get a kickbutt Nissan with a huge engine for $3K
But if you're dead on a FWD Prelude, go for it. Look out for rust mostly, especially in the frame/rails underneath. Check the bushings if they're worn. Check interior electronics like windows, power locks, interior lighting, gauges for any signs of messed up wiring. Open the hood and rev it a few to check for audible clunks
I changed my first thermo when i was 6
I know, it seems easy enough. The mechanic might even mess it up more the way he doesn't bleed or burp the coolant properly. I just need some extra cash to buy a jug of coolant and I would tinker with it today
To be honest I don't want anything beefy. It was powerful enough for my tastes, and the F22 is supposedly easy to tune up. FWD means it'll be good in the snow, all the wiring worked when I tested it. There was rust near one wheel well, but otherwise I double and triple checked the exterior and it was fine. Interior was really great considering it's a 16 year old car.

It's not that, it's more about getting more value out of your money. Because once you purchase this, you'll be out that money and you'll most likely be the last person this car belongs to. Even $3,5K is pretty high for a 16 year old Honda honestly. Just don't want you to regret it later down the road when you realized you could have saved money and used it for some other investment later.
Meh. Living everyday on a super tight budget, you get to appreciate what it means to possess money.
I love that my parents are letting me keep my car in the garage while these storms blow through the next few days. My car is the only car that wouldn't be covered by insurance if it got raped by hail damage, though.
I have discovered that my car has no cabin air filter. One less thing to check, I guess.
I wouldn't be surprised if mine didn't either; Every time i turn the air on i get shit loads of particles and dirt and shit thrown in my fucking eyes. Ugh.

At least that means noone can piss in it.

Mechanic at Mavis asked me if insurance would cover hail damage if it had basic coverage, Sadly his new 2012 civic got it's roof wrecked by hail upstate NY this winter.
It's why imo i'd rather have full coverage and pay out the ass for it, after having my windshield shatter after being hit by a peiece of flying metal and then having it replaced next day for free is amazing.

Also towards the prelude, Cracked windshield? Is it greatly visable or just stare at it for a minute to realize it? Some states have if it's cracked big enough or visible cracks then it's a no-go to drive. NY it's so weird where it can be cracked but aslong as it doesn't interfere with the drivers view. Safelite has a treatment fix to the window that doesn't last permanently but it can make the problem go away while you scrounge up the cash to get a new windshield but this is only for small chips like when a pebble or gravel hits the window.
If the rust looks like it's going to eat part of the car if not fixed or already has take the price difference for a new panel. If the windshield is literally shot take the price for a new windshield. 4300 for a prelude is a bit much imo. I've only done three car negoitations and they were just for friends one for family and in the end I've saved them between 200-600 bucks just by going by things that will need immediate repair. Additionally you can just straight up take like 500 off the asking price and aslong as it doesn't put the car into virtually nothing the buyer will just agree.
What really works is just having the cash ready to go, If you ever watched that stupid show wheeler dealers that phrase "Cash money right now" it works. If i was the dealer and you wanted to buy my prelude and said 4800 cash right now out of my pocket depending if i was a criminal i'd either kill you and take it or be like "Taking it." Most sellers anyway margin up there actual price they want for it just so the people who come offer the actual amount the seller wants.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if you got a minimum 500 off the price. 600-700 is realistic to get off of it but the seller can't realize that the price dropped 700. I'm a jerk when it comes to it but realistic, If the car is in grand condition i'll pay what they want cause the reason i'm looking at it is cause I want it not to rip him off and sell it to someone else.

Crack is fully horizontal, across the whole windshield. Definitely going to need full replacing. One of m y neighbors owns an auto glass repair shop so I'm not worried about that, money wise. The rust isn't bad either, looks like the frame had a bit gouged out more than it is rust.
I was definitely going to take out cash to buy it. I'm not so sure about their full price of 4200 at all, that's a lot for almost any car that old. But 400-500 off seems more similar to what I wanted to offer.
So I took the 300CE in to get inspected and low and behold, it failed. Apparently "headlight door" on the left side is cracked, which causes it to fail inspection. Dealer quoted me at $260 per door. I'm raging hard right now. It's been cracked for 15 years, and if I replace just one of them I have to replace both because it will look like shit if I just replace one of them. They're badly weathered.

Even though you get it replaced for free still say
windshield cracked - cost estimate
frame gouge and slight rust - rough estimate cost (Really rough it not sure, rust and frame work isn't my type of negotiating)
IMO i'd def take 600 off. 3700-3800 is a middle between what you want and he wants. Everyone should be happy.
