well that's what I originally planned, but that changed and now i guess I'm going back to my original. thanks for your help cubeman. just gotta wait for the inspectors to check it out tomorrow
I've decided to go ahead and do the thermostat job myself. Just need to get coolant and maybe a torque wrench with extender. Maybe a small tube of silicone sealer I don't like how the mechanic doesn't even know how to bleed or drain the coolant properly.
New visors got shipped today. Cannot wait!
I use Blocket (Sweden) and always get hilarious results such as this: $77000, and only driven in four seasons of the Swedish Touring Car Championship [editline]29th May 2012[/editline] http://www.blocket.se/varmland/BMW_320_si_S2000_STCC_WTCC_38812316.htm?ca=7&w=3&last=1
2300km? I've heard a lot of them have those really expensive straight-cut gearbox that are obnoxiously loud and need to be replaced frequently.
Just back from my third driving lesson. Only stalled it once. Basically, fuck bus's and hedge's.

you don't really get it do you... it was improperly imported not necessarily illegally it said in the article the guy put as the source. it's not even that, it's the fact that they actually crush a rather rare car when they could just sell it for export instead. NO CRUSHING IT IS DEFINITELY THE BEST WAY BECAUSE WE DON'T NEED MONEY AT ALL IN AMERICA. [editline]31st May 2012[/editline] and i swear, they're hunting down Skylines over there, I don't know why, but if you have a skyline over there there's a huge chance it'll just get impounded and crushed or sold.
the whole system is flawed, shit much worse than a few cars being crushed happens every day.
and i swear, they're hunting down Skylines over there, I don't know why, but if you have a skyline over there there's a huge chance it'll just get impounded and crushed or sold.
Exactly. For some reason they have a hatred for Japanese machines. Otherwise we'd have some pretty lax laws with importing them here. All the while big American gas-guzzlers and emission farters get all the fun. Which is better for the environment, a v8 or some v4? Psygo pointed it out; for some reason the Skyline is also targeted here in California. Hence my wow when I saw an R32 pulling out of auto class in my high school [editline]Off topic:[/editline] Anyone know anything about coolant ratio? I will flush my system this weekend and I need some input on how much/what coolant to use. I've heard a bit of coolant with the rest being distilled water is good for desert weather
the whole system is flawed, shit much worse than a few cars being crushed happens every day.
definitely, but we're in the AA, I only care about the cars man. [editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Anyone know anything about coolant ratio? I will flush my system this weekend and I need some input on how much/what coolant to use. I've heard a bit of coolant with the rest being distilled water is good for desert weather
just use 50% coolant and 50% water. [editline]31st May 2012[/editline] and tap water should work just fine, never heard of anyone using distilled water, I don't know how the coolants are called/coloured in the us, but if it's the same as over here I'd imagine it's just regular blue coolant.
Results of the inspection came back. Going to need a new timing belt within 10,000 miles or so they estimate. Otherwise the engine was clean as a whistle.

Can't use tap because it has minerals that build scale and rust everywhere, clogging everything. Hence why my coolant reservoir tank has some rust particles eugh. I'm hoping my engine didn't warp anything or form a crack when it overheated. It seems to drive ok but overheats after a while, causing pressure to escape out the reservoir. I'll change the thermostat and do a full bleed and see if that helps. If so, we're golden Ponyboy
and i swear, they're hunting down Skylines over there, I don't know why, but if you have a skyline over there there's a huge chance it'll just get impounded and crushed or sold.
They really have been in the last couple yeas, there's been reports of Skyline owners who managed to get them in fairly legally that have just recently in the last year or so just had feds show up and say your car is ours, bye. In a couple years here we'll finally be able to start importing R32's from what I've heard since 1989 is 25 years off of 2014.
Not trying to sound like an internet badass or anything here, but if i owned a R32 and someone took it away from me and crushed it, (That goes for any car i owned that someone took and crushed i suppose) I'd personally go to not only to the people that showed up at my doorstep and took it, but also any legal parties involved (Excluding the big-uns obviously, such as the pres) and smash their cars to absolute bits. And then when their insurance fixes it with no penalties at all, I'd smash the fucker again. And when they got a new car, I'd set the fucker on fire. etc. etc. [editline]31st May 2012[/editline] I'm a very aggressive person when it comes to people fucking with the only thing i hold dear in life.
So its settled, I'm going back to buying the 86. I'd like to buy a spare engine as well, i'll work on that one so when I get it up to spec I can just plop it in. This will also let me keep the stock motor with the matching serial number in case I go to sell or revert it. And if the engine breaks, i'll have a spare.
Got pissed at parents, went for a drive, got gas, kicked exhaust pipe ALL the way out, now am running perma open headers c: Got home, parents were bothering me again so i went for another drive, nice and calm now :) [editline]1st June 2012[/editline] Also, i found that going over 85 miles an hour is much more fun when your speedo stops at 85
just drove home with the 'Lude Got away with it for 3700. Not sure if I want to go to the DMV tomorrow, considering it's Friday, and the first of the month.

If so, we're golden Ponyboy
yeah I know this, but antifreeze protects against rust and it should be good enough to make it not rust, but you might be right, I never filled distilled water in so there might be a difference. [editline]1st June 2012[/editline] this is probably something bradley would know.
I never use distilled water in mine, but then again i have a blown coolant seal so for all i know, that could be why... I always find dirt and rust in my overflow, i have to empty it back into the rad every morning so i usually dump the nasty shit out once it gets to that point and replace it with fresh coolant. Maybe I'll put in distilled water only once i get a new engine. For now it doesn't really matter too much, again, assuming it hurts it at all in the first place.
Anyone know if I'd have any problems getting my car licensed and registered? I have the title in hand, a bill of sale, proof of insurance. The only problem is the guy I bought the car from never registered it - he bought it to commute and ended up having to sell it to pay for his Subaru since it broke down at an inconvenient time. But I still do have the title in hand, signed by the previous owner ready for a transfer, a bill of sale, and proof of insurance.

There may be some small fees and of course taxes, but it should go smooth. If it was unregistered for a while, there may be backfees. Was it smogged?
Another work week gone by, 870$ pay check, 18 years old finally, woo. Now waiting on to get my Supercharger.

And be prepared to pay a shitload for taxes, luckily it's a one time thing only
Same boat man... My car is going in around the 8-9 June. Full engine rebuild with turbo internals and ofc a turbo.
american car companies must not like being outclassed by foreigners so they bribe customs to hell
I do believe it personally to be this. Why else would an extremely well made car, which is sold for a rather low amount considering what you're getting, be destroyed in a country where cheap materials and ovals run rampant?
