there's not a lot of advice I can offer other than practice makes perfect
When I was still doing drivers ed I made it a point to ask my instructor to teach me. Basically pull up to the frontmost car and back into the spot, crank your wheel when you're about halfway past the front car
Well I made the commute into work this morning no problem, which is about 30 minutes of highway driving. With any luck my timing belt will last the week
The benefit of having a tiny car is that I can pick any parking spot I want (as long as it isn't reserved)
You're freaking out about that timing belt? Really?
You're freaking out about that timing belt? Really?
yes. i don't want to have to pay to fix bent valves and all of that fun stuff
like I said I'll get it professionally looked at this weekend
You're freaking out about that timing belt? Really?
Well it is his car's engine at stake...
Well it is his car's engine at stake...
Exactly, the seller didn't know if it was replaced and timing belt service is not in any of the service records I have, so I'm reluctant to take it onto the highway.
But it did hit 80 with ease so I'm not that worried anymore, but I really really would rather pay the $200 or so to get the belt replaced than fixing whatever the hell would break if the belt snaps or skips teeth, and since my engine is apparently an impedance engine if the belt snaps I'm looking at a hefty repair cost
it's not going to snap just like that
[editline]4th June 2012[/editline]
stop worrying so much
like I said I just need it to last this week and unless I pissed off god or something I'm fairly certain it will last that long
It can probably last 110-115k before acutally needing to worry of it breaking.
yeah I know
but like I said before I'll take it in for a proper inspection this weekend - for all I know it was replaced before the seller bought it which was 2 months ago and I don't even need to worry
Speaking of which, my engine would need a timing chain replacement soon too. As well as the plastic guides.
At least your engine isn't like mine, if the chain gets loose it chews through a coolant passage
I don't know what's better to be honest :v:
If my belt gets loose and skips teeth I can say bye-bye to the integrity of my valves and probably have to replace the whole motor
Though a cut coolant passage seems like it could fuck up enough shit to need a new motor as well

If you're worried about it snapping now you're going to always worry about it even after you put a new one on, seriously. God shitting damn.
Calm your tits.

That's not true, and I'm not that worried anymore considering I got the car to 80mph on the highway today. If it was gonna break or otherwise fail it would have done it then.
[editline]4th June 2012[/editline]
And I'm not saying it was gonna break because high speeds, but rather if the belt was really going to break, it would probably do it when the engine was nice and warm because we all know how heat fucks with materials
i've gotten my piece of shit 1.4L 21 year old nissan that has done 250000km to 100mph multiple times without it spontaneously exploding
Here's my video from last weekend!

i was afraid of the timing belt failing, not spontaneous explosions :o
Hey guys, do you like my cold air intake?

Hot air rises so the higher you go the hotter the air will be
He must be hiding a hot air balloon in there.
Are 240s rare? Because it seems like you're doing a shit load of work for a car that doesn't seem all that costly
[editline]4th June 2012[/editline]
Yeah they're all under $3000 around me on Craigslist
They are rare, parts are hard to find for a 22+ year old car. It doesn't help the previous owner completely neglected the car and just drove it to the ground. I'm cleaning up the mess he did as well as my mechanic's. You really have to do your own work and be knowledgeable with these cars.
Not everyone has $15,000 to spend on their car.
That too, college student budget yo.
So I tested my car's speakers yesterday. My entire car shook from the bass, and if you're sitting in the car you feel the bass in your chest. These are some pretty damn good stock speakers, don't think I'll be changing them anytime soon

Timing belts break more often when the engine is shut down after running than at any point during run time.
Timing belts break more often when the engine is shut down after running than at any point during run time.
so what you're saying is if the car starts I'm probably good
I mean, not that I'm worried anymore, but you know what I mean.
not that I'm worried anymore
yes you are
bad protocol
stop it
Am I still worried about my timing belt? Yes, I am.
Am I going to freak out over it? No. I'm confident that it's not going to break anytime soon.
Drive it for a few months. Change it in the fall sometime. It'll be alright.
But yeah, you're more likely to break the belt when going back down to idle or when shutting the engine off.
Well I got stuff to change on it already so I might as well get the belt done. Probably won't be putting more than 500 miles on it by then, so I won't wear it out too much.
Also, damn, V4 Honda engines are peppy as fuck. Passing someone on the highway, gotta press the gas a bit to speed up, and VRMMMMMMM I'm ahead of them.
Just wait till you have an overweight person in your 4-cyl car
I went to the mountains with 4 guys who weigh 200+. Never again, my car was having trouble getting to 65 on a slight incline
V4
lolwut. I don,t recall honda's having those

Yeah, stock radios are getting better and better. My brothers SUV has a 500+ watt sound system from Rockford Fosgate.
