"VW Corrado, still has it, even though it's one of the older boys now."
That's... not rice
It really bums me out how ignorant people can be about what's rice/not rice
In Denmark we're not allowed to tune it more than 20%, and turbos are a strict no-no unless it was born with a turbo, then you're allowed to replace it. Even chip-tuning became illegal in April.
I know nothing about tuning, but of what I know I'll be changing the air intake and research about the exhaust. The rest of the performance's gotta come out of cleaning it and bringing it back to standard performance.
tools shut up, 10 year old cars are not old here, we have like the oldest average in cars or something like that, the newest car we ever owned was a 1992 mercedes i think.
I think I found a loop-hole in the no-go tuning laws of Denmark, and I basically need to do the following;
The car's gonna have a performance increasement of over 20%, so I'll have to get it's noice and exhaust measured, which can cost between 8000 - 30,000 DKK for the exhaust measurement, and the noice levels can be measured at the Institute of Technology for a price of 5000 DKK.
If it fails, you have to pay again.
The exhaust problem you can fix by electronicly heat the main-catalyst and lambda probe so that the colder air from the replacement of any pre-catalyst will still be filtered/converted/whatever.
The tuning parts needs to be TÜV-approved (Merkblatt 751) and have documentation that the modification will work fluently with the engine. You'll also need documentation that the car will remain safe with this new modification, or provide what you'll need to modify further to make it safe (breaks, stability, etc).
If it goes through it's inspection without any notification that it's been modified, you can end up in trouble later on.
Some cars from between 1984 1989/90 (depending on the engine size) with a regulated catalyst sometimes don't need to have their exhaust-levels measured, but you can be told to take the test anyways.
If the car's older than '97 (which it is) you'll need documentation about it's fuel consumption, as you need to change the half-year green-taxes you pay accordingly.

So yays, the car's total value will end up around 150.000 DKK with everything approved and a turbo + extras installed.
Also bonus movie, a standard 320i + turbo = +200HP

to me, rice is when you see the awful subaru imprezas that are lowered, blue and have giant fins on the back. e.g. when a dumb rich teenager gets hold of a sporty car and cares more about how it looks than how it runs

You know that's what Subaru's look like from the factory right? lol
Age old argument again, rice is a very broad term. Personally, rice is when you attach all sorts of useless stuff that does not constitute to performance. Kinda like this Honda I saw yesterday with all sorts of plastic sticker stuff on the side body; turbo v8, fake vents etc. I'm the kinda guy that can drive a rust wagon with a twin turbo inside the engine bay
In other news, I finally looked at my timing belt. It's fine. I can stop worrying for now.
I also managed to fix my windshield wiper nozzle, since one was gummed up with crap. My sister freaked out when I started pouring the fluid into what appeared to be a random reservoir, but, y'know, when it has the windshield wiper icon on the lid, it was pretty obvious what it was.
however I think the wipers don't fit, since I noticed the one on the passenger side sits over the windshield. I looked at it and there was nothing I could do to fix it. I didn't notice if this was a problem before the windshield was replaced but it's pretty obvious now.
But yeah, I'm working on making the car better. I'm taking a snack break now. I'm gonna run over to Walmart before it starts hailing really bad and pick up something to polish the dash with.

They look sporty out of the factory, but they don't come with some of the rims and spoilers I see. And the aftermarket fart cans.
I'm gonna keep my car as stock looking as possible. I want to get the paint buffed pretty soon, since I finally came to the realization that the paint could look so much better if I did that. Eventually I want to get an H23 in my car, but I probably won't ever get around to having it done since I probably don't want to do anything special to my first.

Mmmm I'm no ford fan but the Raptor is my dream truck.
Also, my blazer picked literally the worst time to break down today. I'm not wanting to talk about it more though...
:(
Make sure the car can run it's optimum performance. Heck, even slap a turbo on there
optimum performance =/= borrowed time
Did my first official drag race in my T-Bird yesterday.

So a stock Subaru Impreza is rice when a rich kid owns it... I understand everything now
The automotive class had their dyno day today.
That arse who drives the Firebird didnt do it. But yet still heckled the other cars. Pussy.

No, it's rice when they put shitty rims and a fart can on it
Time to get shit done! Gonna change brake pads, buy some fasteners and finally attach my splash shield, and maybe even get a tranny oil change
I live in a country where buying anything +10 years old's known of breaking down easily, so a 14 year old car's pushing it a bit.
hi from finland
No, it's rice when they put shitty rims and a fart can on it
lol when that fart can is the reason it's so fast
A guy in my class got a Subaru Impreza wagon just like Edberg has... however he bought an automatic :v:

also dug a sick hole on a dirt road using the power of brakes and high revs
its like a foot deep
optimum performance =/= borrowed time
I said that, in general terms. Why spend on interior when you can replace worn engine parts and hoses for better performance. Turbos aren't always the way to go
No, it's rice when they put shitty rims and a fart can on it
It's not when a 2.5"-3" tubing on the exhaust serves a purpose. No sense leaving exhaust choked and bottle-necked on "leaving it stock."
Not everything is rice you know. Believe it or not, lowering coilovers serve a purpose as well as the "fart can." Getting tired of saying this over and over. It's like I'm talking to Hoodoo again

I cant stand nigh ground scraping STI's though
Id fucking blast one of those through so many back roads.
My friend sent me the wrong wastegate actuator, Had to pull one from LKQ. That 91 Volvo was dirty as hell. But I did pull some other parts, like intake shit, a new AC switch, some bezels. I have to make the pin of the wastegate actuator, heh.

Stance is great if you're going for a show-only, parking lot event queen. Good luck taking that kind of thing on the mountain passes here lol, let alone drifting.
Also, something to bamp the thread

The pigtails on the turn signals are all crunchy and brittle, can't even pop them off. My fingers, they are bleeding

im ok with this

So I went to the dealership to get some fasteners. turns out I need almost 40 fucking dollars. Now that is ridiculous, I'd rather get used clips than overpay for new ones. I somehow ended up leaving with a pack of 800 zip ties I got from the sale bin :v:
Anyone have any ideas on what I could do with my car and these wonderful zip ties of varied colors and sizes?
Clean up your wiring I guess

What are you trying to fasten again?
Fender liner. Need to place one, and the other is loose and is in dire need of being fastened

this was a bad financial decision :suicide:

Trust me, I live in a suburb full of rich spoiled kids. Nobody here that I see ever actually cares about what's under the hood other than how many horses it has out of the factory. I'm not saying that everything is rice, that's a fucking stupid assumption and you should be ashamed. I'm saying that 9 out of 10 times when I see a sporty looking car that's driven by some rich teenage dumbass, it's a shitty automatic that has the absolute worst mods ever.
Screw in my tire with ~4,000 miles on it. :(
Should I try to plug it myself or just take it to a shop?
