come in me bro
rrerr
Looks like my insurance is gonna be about £1300 this year. Well, beats the £2200 I was paying last year I suppose.
comes down to money, drive what you can afford
comes down to driving, too many civics on the road.
I'm really open to anything. Civics are just one cheapish option, but I'm sure the insurance might be a little higher than my truck.

Same here, $70 bucks though.

i didn't stutter.

On the subject of dashes, my dash is actually in pretty good shape. A little dusty, but no cracks.

I think it's a little higher since I'm in Europe.
Oh and loads of rrerr.

ok im going to ask this and you're all going to hate (if you dont all ready) but this is a serious question and i genuinely want to know
can someone please explain to me the love of underpowered econoboxes. a 1993 honda civic hatchback will be my example since its early 90s, Japanese, hatchback and has a 4 banger (the ultimate boner combo apparently)
now the most powerful engine that year according to wiki was a 125hp 1.6 liter. i understand the weight to power distribution so i thought maybe thats why they're loved. but no, according to zeroto60times.com it hits 60 in 10 seconds and does the 1/4 mile in 17 seconds. thats slow as fuck now matter how you put it. and most other jap econocars from the time had similar numbers
so i really want to know, whats the appeal of these slow, economy minded cars that people try to race? i can get "different folks different strokes" but unless high mpg and reliability is your goal, why would you try and make it fast? is it the challenge of making something painfully slow fast? and if you want to go fast and race, why not just get a performance minded car in the first place? if drifting is your goal, wouldnt you need a rwd and powerful car? not these mass of fwd cars?
i know it seems like a lot of questions but this has seriously made me wonder forever.
people buy them and literally strip them of everything and rebuild them. Acutal honda civic hatchbacks that are "fast" literally have nothing really stock left internally. Hell most of them are probably even swapped engines
well that corresponds to my other question, why go thorough all that trouble to make your car finally compete with other fast cars when you could've just bought a performance one anyway? and dont say you cant afford them, there are plenty of cheap fast cars
Well, my econobox isn't gonna be underpowered anymore. Anyway, I guess people would rather put forth the effort in fixing what they have, Hell I couldve bought a really clean 5.0 foxbody but i've had so much fun working on my volvo.
I don't understand why some people do it to some cars, but mine turns out to be a good modding platform, civics shouldn't be but interest in the car drives people to try I guess.

It can be summed up in 3 words:
built, not bought
many people just love building and others simply cant find a car that makes them happy. it can be compared to paintings: some like to buy a blank canvas and paint a picture while others like to buy paintings and already be done with it. Why do painters paint and not just buy a painting? It could be that he enjoys painting or maybe no artwork suits his tastes.
-edit-
Oh, and I've also finally found a copy of the 1986 TRD catalog for the ae86!
i can understand that. but like lets say you got a 1987 5.0 mustang, like siminov said. 205hp, 0-60 6.3 and 1/4 of 14.2. thats not very fast but its manageable. something like that would make sense (to me) to fix up and make faster because it all ready has potential

But I, and others like me, just don't love the Mustang.
-edit-
It also just feels like I'm only doing whats already been done. Like just putting the icing on a already baked cake instead of making the whole thing.
Personally i don't see how they're attractive at all. They're ugly, slow, and small. Only redeeming factor is their cheapness.
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
to the honda argument.
i dont just mean the mustang, any car thats all ready quick
i dont just mean the mustang, any car thats all ready quick
I know, I was just using the same example you were using.

thats also just a usdm spec civic, i have the civic that you speak of and its not the most powerful car, but it does 0-60 in 8.5? i think, it's not the fastest, but it's reliable and gets great gas mileage. ever since i bought my car it allowed me to really understand how cars work, and i really want to learn more about cars. I have alot of plans along the way with my car, i just need the money to do so. But its my personal taste and many people will disagree and diss me and my car for being a little 4 banger honda rice machine, but each to his own. If everyone thought a mustang/ something equivalent to that was the best "bang for the buck" wouldn't everyone own them? The whole honda scene interests me and to see that the same engine in my car can produce over 600hp is astonishing. i love my car and wouldn't trade it for the world
I bought a trailer hitch for my audi and in the last month I have not even flown once.
I really need to stop crashing them. :v:
also NA, it's about the civics light weight too, these things weigh fucking nothing, pretty good at handling, they actually are(were?) used for loads of different street racing in japan for ages.
and people don't buy them for drifting.
you can't even join in on drifting it, unless you build it over to RWD, and even then it's not all competitions that you can join in on.
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
and to whoever said civics don't have potential... all i can say is, wat.
did someone say frogs?
Just read the technical folkrace rules, and some of them are hilariously specific, like "Damaged helmets have to be labeled. The label must be made on the helmet on both sides of the chin strap.
Volvo white no.189, (touch-up paint for stone chips) shall be used."
I was considering doing some of that a few years ago but then my dad was like, "nah then we need a trailer and a car to tow and shit"
and then a a year or two later he buys my sister a fucking horse and a trailer that's like double the amount we could've done it for.
Doesn't someone on here deliver pizzas? I am probably going to apply at the local pizza places for a delivery position and was gonna ask if it's as awesome as it sounds. I get paid to drive my car around for hours? Sign me up. Surely they give you gas money as well?
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
and my car is dependable currently. It's never broken down on me.
all you guys should buy wheels and join me in iracing
I deliver pizza and promises of a land of gold
No but it depends on the place if they'll pay you for gas. Corporations like Papa Johns might but the local place I'm at doesn't. Local places can pay you as they see fit. Also you might not just deliver pizza, like me, I deliver and do the dishes
My local pizzia that we've been loyal to fucking older then me the 2 deliver guys drive a 2012 Camaro SS and Nissian GTR (They get paid well, then again its all family business). We usually always pickup but one day asked if they could deliver (we are like 30 seconds away).
Camaro SS and GTR infront of our house. Oh okay.

I was gonna hit up pizza hut and damnino's. I'm just applying all over the place right now trying to make that payper, because it sucks literally not having any money ever and asking your mommy for gas money five dollars at a time, like a little bitch.
all you guys should buy wheels and join me in iracing
I am going to TRY and get a Driving Force GT at the beginning of july, but i probably won't be able to. My car needs oil.
well that corresponds to my other question, why go thorough all that trouble to make your car finally compete with other fast cars when you could've just bought a performance one anyway? and dont say you cant afford them, there are plenty of cheap fast cars
Because goodness forbid we choose the car we like to have.
It's foreign, it's rare, it's unique on its own merit. Sure, I can buy a Mustang or an equivalent muscle, but where's the fun in that? People like to assemble great racing cars from the ground up. It's like that computer argument. Why build a PC when you can buy one that's already fast from a retail outlet? What got me hooked was the amount of custom, aftermarket/third party parts and things you can simply bolt on cars like that.
To me, it's just awesome. I love these Japanese cars and their 4-cyl greatness. The car is essentially small too. It's not all about numbers and specs bro. It's more about taste and perspective. These small econo-racecar boxes are at times so complex in their build that's its almost fascinating to own and work on one. Let alone drive it. Also, more power does not necessarily mean more speed when you're drifting/autocross :P
The point is, it kicks butt to see a heavily modified Supra with huge rear wheels out-run a muscle on the strip. Imo, like an underdog thing
