Have you at least learn anything then? Cuz then its not all wasted time lol.
I have been looking at hit-and-miss engines and have fucking yet to figure out how they work. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] I have been learning quite a bit about strange engines, which to me is anything thats not tradtional piston or turbine. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] Such as this, what the fuck is happening. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] i just realized he explained it in the video...
What a day, changed oil and decided to go with 5w-30 instead of 5w-40 as it was readily available and should be no problem with my VR6. Filled exactly to spec, 6.1 quarts. Start her up and smoke starts bellowing out the exhaust, as if I just seafoamed it or something. Took it around the block and it seems to have went away but I can still smell oil burning, I'm thinking draining the 5w30 and putting in the usual 5w40 is best. More viscous and it gets into spots the 5w40 couldn't get into maybe? Then swapping out my misfiring coilpack was a disaster. Went from OEM as fuck - To broken down as fuck - Damn thing is faulty, entire ignition cutout while driving and exhaust smelled like rotten eggs from the gas being dumped into the cat. Threw the old pack back in there and its running fine now but I can't help but feel that this might've damaged the cat. Though it wasn't running like that for very long, only a minute or two so it could limp over to a parking lot. Learning a lot of stuff the hard way, I wish I had room for a second car I could work on while having a reliable one for work.
I'm surprised at all the intelligent conversations on these engine vids, it really is heartwarming.

Cont crawl to me when your throttle body goes bad, making the car go into rich mode 24/7. I would acculy be worried about that nice rust you have at your jack location!
Oil doesn't cause a car to smoke unless it is getting into the cylinders somehow, and it will be a blue smoke, and pretty foul. And if it is entering the cylinders (via valve seals or worn piston rings), different oils will have no effect, it will always smoke. Why don't people understand the basics of how the piston engine works? It's very simple. Oil should NEVER be burning (causing smoke), if so, something is wrong with the engine, not the oil. I have no idea how many times I've tried to pound that into DP's head. It's common sense, really. Fuel burns. Oil lubricates. Oil burning? Engine has problem. When your car leaks gas do you change the gas? Bearings: are they a bitch to change? [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] also, I think my ABS sensor is going bad.. might have to pull the fuse
Bearings: are they a bitch to change? [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] also, I think my ABS sensor is going bad.. might have to pull the fuse
They really shouldn't be hard to change if your car has a traditional spindle and roller bearings. However, if it's a "floating hub", you gotta change the thole rotor, which is easier because it's only what, 3 bolts? [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] Oh my fuck imagine a runaway on an engine this big.
One of the spark plugs cracked when I was twisting it into the head, I just dropped the wrench slightly. Pieces of ceramic near the entrance. Vacuumed everything out except a one really small piece that managed to dive straight inside. Fuck, should be ok right? This was yesterday
Bearings: are they a bitch to change? [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] also, I think my ABS sensor is going bad.. might have to pull the fuse
Wheel bearing or rod bearing? There are so many bearings in a car. Be specific. Regardless, it isn't really GOOD for the engine, but if it's particle sized, it will likely work its way out of the engine without harm on the next exhaust cycle.

I've been looking at getting an angle grinder to get rid of it but the entire side of the car basically needs to be repainted. Ontario winters suck, the salt is completely destroying the undercarriage of the car. I never burned any oil before the change, so the engine should be in fairly good shape but going from the 5w40 to 5w30 has got to have something to do with it.

Just recently at Holden several crates of engines and transmissons were stolen. They're plant is located in Elizabeth, South Australia and is known for being a dodgy area (I live there).

The smoking is something else, I'm certain. Has it gone away now? [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] Wait, did you change spark plugs too? Just curious. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline]

to be honest, could probably be a decent car again for the price of a couple doors and a fender.
The smoke has completely gone away, there is only a very slight smell of burning oil. I'd have to be right up to the exhaust to smell it. Spark plugs were changed about 3000KM ago, when I changed the oil and it started smoking I has only replaced the coilpack and the spark plug wires. Though later that day the coilpack crapped out, would a faulty one not producing a good spark cause the smoke?
It definitely could, unburnt fuel in the exhaust can cause a lot of rich smelling smoke.
It definitely could, unburnt fuel in the exhaust can cause a lot of rich smelling smoke.
Alright, thanks for the help. I'll keep a close eye on the oil level just in case but I'm glad it isn't looking like its anything too serious.
Oh god I am short by 1972$ now. But at least I'll be able to make it whine by the other week :v:
but its still FWD fail :v: And thats alot cheaper than it used to be.
Someone help me source a H22 Crankshaft for my buddy, or something that will work. (Stupid with Honda motors)
So a while ago I mentioned that guy that has, illegally, installed a "red top" 2L Astra engine into his Corsa (Or more precisely, had it done for him...). and now wants to pile on the camber on all four wheels. Ugh. Well, today, in his infinite wisdom he decided to try upgrade the radio in my brother's Renault Clio. (You know, because going from a stock CD player to an aftermarket CD player that has identical functionality but lacks the steering wheel controls is TOTALLY worth doing) ...Before checking the security code was written down somewhere. The aftermarket radio didn't work (Someone didn't check for ACC and continuous power lines with a multimeter and just assumed because it was an ISO connector it was the ISO pinout...) so he reinstalls the stock radio... oh wait "Code: 0000". Idiot. This is what happens when you give an idiot tools with a lack of experience. Luckily we had the code. I don't mind him doing it to his own shitty chav box corsa, but if you mess with a car from this household you better know what you are doing. Hurts more because I DO know what I am doing, I've installed loads of car radios, work in the industry and have even developed my own Steering wheel control adapter with an AVR microcontroller. Just venting.
Found a beautiful Toyota Supra '84 for $1000 I want it

I need to try folkrace sometime before I get myself killed :v:
I need to try folkrace sometime before I get myself killed :v:
If you ever come to Dalarna you can ride in Borlänge for like 700kr.
crazy expensive
I know.
I should steal my bros MI16 and drop it in a 106 or something and start doing that :v: too bad that i'd have to sell the car for 5000kr if anybody wants it :(
