Found out the reason why the speed sensor on my transmission is toasted because a smart fellow hooked up all the dashboard harness as well as the stereo ground wiring together into one wire into one screw. The screw is directly connected to the transmission housing, barely the frame. Explains engine hesitation/electronics fritz
Also found out my coolant problem. Microscopic crack on one hose sprung a needle-sized leak spraying everything everywhere. Cool beans
Whoever is also a Blazer owner on here (forgot name)
The stock radio for a 1999 Blazer is single or double DIN?

It was a double din in a late 90's something jimmy.
Almost got a hell of a ticket today.
Was cruisin on the highway, when suddenly find myself behind a line of 5-6 cars, all tailgating each other cause the asswipe in the front doesn't know what the left lane is for. I drive like this, going 5 under the limit for about 10 miles. Eventually, the highway merges with another one, going from two lanes to 5 lanes. I go into the lane on the left almost instantly along with a suzuki jeep behind me, but then the entire line of cars also goes into the left lane, including the slow jackass driver (:v:). I'm about to go another lane in the left, when the suzuki has had enough and just swerves into the lane i was about to merge into, and just starts booking it. I merge into the lane right behind the suzuki, thinking "hell yeah this guy has the right idea". So we both end up going up 95 in a 65, passing a whole pack of cars going 65-70. And I'm just chillin, enjoying the speed, when suddenly, in the lane to the right of me, about 10 feet ahead of me, I see a black and white suv with lights on top. My brains just goes into panic mode and all I can think is "oh shit oh fuck oh shit OHSHITOHFUCKOHSHIT". I ended up slamming on the brakes, and managed to almost match his speed when i was half a car length behind him. I could sense his utter disappointment in me not speeding past him, but I was still panicking at this point. At this point he figured I was a lost cause, and started going after the suzuki. The suzuki realized he was in deep shit and started merging lanes towards an exit as fast as he could. But that cop was dedicated, he weaved through the cars, and managed to catch up to the suzuki. Poor suzuki driver never stood a chance :c
rip suzuki bro ????-2012

Not sure if this will help

I have some saying Single, while others say Double.
1999 Blazer, 4x4. Does not have the upgraded radio (not Bose)
get a beetle
Heard they're monsters once you swap the engine
beetles are pretty expensive here, and I already have one project so... eh.
Got a second opinion on my coolant issues and it appears this is the result of the head gasket letting coolant get into one of the cylinders when the cooling system is under pressure. The only fix is to remove the head and replace the gasket. :(
I have been quoted $120 for a new gasket kit and head bolts. Got most of the necessary tools and paperback instructions on how to remove the head but it's going to be a first for me and it's going to be one fucking hell of a job.
So I have a question
We're currently paying ~$4,000 / year for car insurance for 4 vehicles, two of which have comprehensive collision (of course one of them wasn't mine)
Is this good? Bad? I'm leaning towards bad.
What experiences have users here had with Nissan? I heard their newer sedans are starting to suffer from some quality control issues. I'm just curious because I bought a 2000 Nissan Frontier with ~100,000 miles on it. I read good reviews for reliability. Just curious about other user's experiences with Nissans in general.
Nissan is so-so. Their engines are much more touchy than other imports (Namely Toyota and Honda), but they last a while with proper maintenance.

Give me the ages of the people on it. 3 cars for us for a year full coverage on all is 3600 a year, Age is a factor and what cars

I'm 19, sister's 20, parents are both 47
If the cars matter, it's my Honda Prelude, sister's Dodge Caravan, dad's Ford F250 and mom's Toyota 4Runner
Hate to say, you then your sister are the two main reasons for that high price.
fathers 250 and then your the 19 year old driving the prelude.

I don't think that's true
The email they sent us specifically said "So really it is only costing 83.30 every 6 months more for the 4th vehicle" (being my car)
The breakdown suggests that each car before that was. well, look for yourself

so I really think we were getting fucked beforehand. that breakdown is payment every 6 months too
[editline]2nd July 2012[/editline]
Somehow my mom's toyota also remains the most expensive when that car is driven the least (We only put 55,000 miles on it since we got it new in 99)
Were you and your sister on the insurance beforehand?
Under 25 + Full Coverage == $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
yeah but it's a toyota so it can literally be left in your driveway you come home and some how the accelerator got stuck down and now it's inside your living room. And guess what the most expensive car on our insurance is our toyota camry, It only has 55k miles and is driven the least. It's just toyota drivers in general are woman and ontop of it toyota drivers (ESPICALLY CAMRY DRIVERS UGH) are the worst ever on the road.
Pontiac Grand prix 6 months - 602
Honda accord 6 months - 608
Toyota Camry - 615
Were you and your sister on the insurance beforehand?

I actually wasn't, so every time I drove my mom's car beforehand was completely illegal :v:
Sister was under her car, but it's not even fully covered and she's never been in an accident, the only thing that would drive up her premium is her age.
I just think it's weird how the $285/mo for my car is so deceptively low. I'm a 19 year old kid with a low-end sports car for christ's sake, and I even already wrecked it
[editline]2nd July 2012[/editline]
Speaking of my accident, I haven't heard anything from the insurance about the guy's claim after I sent in those photos, do you think they told him to fuck off? I would imagine they would have sent a notice or something by now
240sx's seem rad as fuck. is it hard to find a decent-condition one for a fair price and what's the insurance like?
Been having intermittent cooling fan engagment for no reason and "Engine overheat, STOP" on the dashboard for fractions of seconds so I thought I'd use my smartphone and an obd2 app to graph the coolant temperature sensor (I think it, or the wiring for it, is dodgy) while I drive back from work.

I'd say that's pretty conclusive.
It climbs and levels out as I'd expect, except sometimes it's pulled low by something.

So far I haven't had any problems, just the occasional tranny and motor oil changes
I still really want an 80s trans am. Even though I have my fancy new stang, I still want it. Why not have two impractical cars!
[editline]2nd July 2012[/editline]
Not now but like a year from now
80's trans >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any rustang ever.
I want my next car to be a BMW. I feel like I oughta own a luxury car at least once.
My next car will probably be another old truck, except in better condition.
Hell, if i have enough money by then i might just buy back my GMC after it's been restored (because for some fucking reason, people sell cars that they put years of work into, but whatever, their loss.)
[editline]2nd July 2012[/editline]
Until then, i plan to keep this blazer for years if not decades. Once this engine dies i'm going to binge and get a performance engine + tranny, and invest in a new suspension, and probably strengthen the frame.
I wish it was eaiser having two cars in college

I guess when I'm being sarcastic, I need giant flashing letters at the end that say "sarcasm" (I thought the questionable grammar the obvious fallacies would hint to that).
That, or I need to stop making jokes people from /o/ would understand, since I'm pretty sure most of you detest /o/.
I wish it was eaiser having two cars in college
I'm about to, and this doesn't make me feel confident about it. :v:
