[QUOTE=EagleEye;37208074][url]http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3200117863.html[/url] My friend is considering buying this car, but I know nothing about Nissan's. Any pointers?[/QUOTE] Wow. I don't know what the going price of these are but GOD DAMN that thin is flawless. 10/10 would fuck.
took 2/4 fender flares off Comanche looks damn good with those things off
the '74 super beetle that I'm looking at is absolutely wonderful in every way - the interior is in [b]AMAZING[/b] condition and everything on the bug looks great - except for the pictures below. Are these pictures something that I can (easily) repair (aka without buying a new part) [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/OpGcvh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/dGlHih.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Lkbk2h.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/AK9v4h.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/y24uPh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/F0uB9h.jpg[/thumb]
that rust isn't terrible considering how old it is but I'm not sure if it's reparable rust is kinda hard to take care of though
[QUOTE=Protocol7;37208584]that rust isn't terrible considering how old it is but I'm not sure if it's reparable rust is kinda hard to take care of though[/QUOTE] aren't you supposed to grind it down or something and put some rust-preventative stuff in its place?
[QUOTE=Banana Lord.;37208661]aren't you supposed to grind it down or something and put some rust-preventative stuff in its place?[/QUOTE] Exactly, and that's pretty much all there is to it. Except when there's a hole, because then you have to cut away all the rust around the hole and weld in a new piece of metal in it's place
i lol'd so hard when i saw mightymax banned he's an awful poster anyway, probably he won't be missed [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] anyway, back to discussion Am I the only one who can't seem to time the shifts right? Sometimes I did well, sometimes I don't.
[QUOTE=Spectre1406;37209655]Am I the only one who can't seem to time the shifts right? Sometimes I did well, sometimes I don't.[/QUOTE] What do you mean time the shifts? Shifting at the right RPM? [editline]I suck at driving[/editline] On a slightly related note: When driving my mom's car, I almost always shift according to the car's manual (keeping it in the green zone on the tachometer), while my mom shifts as she likes (I think she shifts before she even hits the green), and I get way shittier MPG than her, could anyone explain to me why this is?
Yeah, that.
[QUOTE=LarsHelo;37210213] On a slightly related note: When driving my mom's car, I almost always shift according to the car's manual (keeping it in the green zone on the tachometer), while my mom shifts as she likes (I think she shifts before she even hits the green), and I get way shittier MPG than her, could anyone explain to me why this is?[/QUOTE] Shifting in the green zone makes the new gear come in at just high enough rpm so you have much power and can accelerate quickly. Shifting before it makes the next gear have less power in the higher gear but use less fuel
[QUOTE=areolop;37205992]Found a steam powered tractor today. Weird as fuck. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11823009/other/2012-08-12%2014.59.31.jpg[/t] and, it was wood fueled[/QUOTE] what's so weird? [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] they can get fucking huge [img]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qlqgFDemrSE/TIRCwwVWkEI/AAAAAAAAEq0/GKMYPSZio7M/s1600/2.jpg[/img]
Southwest Autoshow.. This guy was at Japfest as well, I asked him about it. Spent like £15-20k and its engine broke on the way to japfest so this is a new / rebuilt one [url=http://postimage.org/][img]http://s15.postimage.org/8smixv7ej/IMG_1472.jpg[/img][/url] [url=http://postimage.org/]image upload[/url] But I suppose you guys are all like MUSCLE BEATS IMPORT there were some mustangs which look so much cooler..

I think this one is in pretty damn good condition [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/hpoVih.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/P9slTh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/tFP1rh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0UwFlh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/KVzjah.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/H6mlEh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/01Vsfh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/XfATdh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0vmiSh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/zLa0Qh.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/jN8xih.jpg[/thumb]
Its so, clean
[QUOTE=Ban Camp;37211900]Its so, clean[/QUOTE] Right?! Aside from the rust it looks like it's in great condition. The color is meh but I'd live with it...but the interior! It's so damn clean and nice!
I'd buy it in a heartbeat [SUB][SUB][SUB][SUB]If it would've been a volvo 745[/SUB][/SUB][/SUB][/SUB]
but what do you guys think? would it be worth it to get it? even with that rust? I've never seen one in such good condition. "This is a 1974 Super Beetle in great condition. 133,000 miles. It starts right up and runs great. I just tuned the engine timing and replaced various ignition components. Car has new distributor cap, rotor, distributor, and ignition coil. Spark plugs and ignition wires were replaced last year. Car rarely driven and sits in garage. Interior is in great condition. There are a few areas of minor rusting that I have shown in the pics below." is 133,000 miles a lot for these little things? [i]help me[/i]
Wow that beetle looks great! Buy it!

You just grind it down and see if there's any holes. Small holes and cracks can be welded shut but if a big piece is missing then you'd have to cut and fit a plate there. There's one hole in the floor under it that you posted but as you can't see right into the cabin through it then it isn't dangerous. Mileage isn't what you should worry about with these engines. Pistons and cylinders are very easy to switch out if you'll ever need to do so and over here at least they are quite cheap to buy. If it isn't overpriced then I would buy it right away [sub][sub][sub][sub]if I liked super beetles[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
yeah I know you're a super hater :P glad to know the mileage on these things isn't something to worry about. my mom's boyfriend had a 72 beetle and he said 90k was pushing it but this is coming from the guy who locked himself out of it and almost rolled into traffic lol I've had my eye on this thing for a few weeks now. The plan is to sell my grandmother's 2000 Jetta (39k miles, regularly maintained, minor body damage) and get the bug, but we haven't gotten around to getting it towed (battery died + brake system light is on). Anyway, once we get that done I'll be able to look at cars...should I e-mail this guy about the bug (he asked to be e-mailed, not called), and if so, what should I be saying? "Hi, my name is Banana Lord. I am 16, plz sell beetle"?

I don't have money if we don't sell the jetta though [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] that's not true I have $80 in my bank account [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] oh and the beetle is going for 3500
why on earth would you sell a good car and get something crappy
[QUOTE=Ollih;37212586]why on earth would you sell a good car and get something crappy[/QUOTE] the beetle is not crappy >: (
Is it worth going aprox 940km (584 miles) for a car?
[QUOTE=Ollih;37212586]why on earth would you sell a good car and get something crappy[/QUOTE] A car that has sold over 20 million, been in production for about 70 years, rarely breaks down, and is generally loved by 90% of people is certainly not crappy [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] Just because you hate it doesn't mean that it's a bad car
so should I e-mail the guy about the beetle?
[QUOTE=Banana Lord.;37212893]so should I e-mail the guy about the beetle?[/QUOTE] I'd say do it.
My best supra woes to happen to date. I'm driving my supra around the neighborhood to test some shits, decided the oil is warm enough for boost. Start boosting, instantly see the boost gauge hit 23 psi (those ct12a's spool like crazy), Fuel cut instantly then lost all boost. I laugh and I stop at the side, pop hood and what's there. Hks SSQV flew out of it's flange and was hanging in the engine bay. The circlip was still there so I take that and put it in the car but after that we spent a good 5 minutes looking for the o-ring on the tarmac lol. We found it, went home (map sensor are THE SHITS) and reinstalled it. So yeah kid, that's what happen when you forget to turn down the boost on your boostcontroller frm one engine to another. loololololo
I use a craigslist app on my iPhone and keep a list of the best bugs within like 5 hours driving distance. On any given day there's probably 8-10 bugs on that list that fit my price range and are in "ownable" condition. Of that list, 1-2 are '74 supers, which is what I'm looking for. About once a week I go through that list, remove the expired postings, and spend a good hour re-populating it with new offers. Of all of the changes to that list, this is by far the best one I've ever seen - but the rust is still concerning. I have (literally) no tools or machinery. I live with my mom and don't see my dad (ever), I have no access to tools to do any kind of grinding repairs myself (unless you guys can tell me what tools I'd need so I could get an estimate total cost), but I think this could be "the one".
