so should I e-mail the guy about the beetle?
yeeeeeees Then you can also go on meetups like this one: http://puu.sh/US1B
an angle grinder and some kind of MAG welder would be the absolutely minimum and would probably do the job. [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] it's what im using on the ae86.
I'd say do it.
okay, now help me convince my mom (and her boyfriend since he owned a beetle and would be taking me to see this one - it's 300 miles away). they keep asking why do you have to get a car now? can't it wait until you get your license? - k well I get my license in february and there's a reason you have to hunt these things down on craigslist, they aren't at a dealership and you can't just go get one that's exactly like the other, these deals go away you said you found 'the one' a few months ago? what happened to it? - it was sold just like I fucking told you, plus, that one had lots of rust and the interior was not nearly as nice as this one my answers don't seem logical to them apparently because I don't think they understand that I also don't want to drive xxx miles in february (when I get my license) to get an old car that will get raped by road salt (we get mad snow in february) help me more please [editline]13th August 2012[/editline]
yeeeeeees Then you can also go on meetups like this one: http://puu.sh/US1B
that is awesome [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] my friend is under the impression that once I get my license I will drive her to work every day my friend is wrong lol
Is it worth going aprox 940km (584 miles) for a car?
Road trip! :v: From where to where exactly? You live south in Sweden and have to go north or opposite?
tell them that that is your dream car, and they're rather rare, if they don't get that, slap them and go look at it yourself.
Is it worth going aprox 940km (584 miles) for a car?
I'm willing to go that far for my beetle [editline]13th August 2012[/editline]
tell them that that is your dream car, and they're rather rare, if they don't get that, slap them and go look at it yourself.
but it's 330 miles away lol
but it's 330 miles away lol
don't you have a friend or something with a license?
don't you have a friend or something with a license?
i do but he can't drive anyone until january 27
Southwest Autoshow.. This guy was at Japfest as well, I asked him about it. Spent like £15-20k and its engine broke on the way to japfest so this is a new / rebuilt one image upload But I suppose you guys are all like MUSCLE BEATS IMPORT there were some mustangs which look so much cooler..
Imports are one thing, rice-burners like the one in that picture are another.
Road trip! :v: From where to where exactly? You live south in Sweden and have to go north or opposite?
Yeah kinda, I live in Stockholm (blue dot) and Boden (which also was only as an example, because the distance) is way up north (green dot) [t]http://f2.braxupload.se/hqoc8p.swedenmap.jpg[/t] But it was more like, how far is an ok distance to go to get a car that looks fine and such? As I've decided for a 745 which is like, extremely common here in Sweden, I could go anywhere in Sweden and still find one, but if I happen to find one that far away, would that be good or should I find something closer? To Boden, it's a 11h drive from my home, and easiest way to get there without car (as I'm gonna buy one to drive home) is by train or plane+train, and the train is 13 hours, not sure how long the flightime is though.
I'm off to the Lakes District for a few days tomorrow. Looking forward to the roads there. Going to do England's highest mountain too, Scafell Pike.

When it's a very common car I would've looked somewhere closer to try and find another one. If you really want that which is very far away I'd suggest a friend (if you have one that lives nearby) go take a look at it and report to you and if it's good then I'd go for it. You want to know what you're buying before using alot of money just to go look at it :v:

Just board it in Sthlm in the evening, then wake up in Boden. Getting from Kallax without your own car/taxi is a major pain in the ass.
Some motherfucker keyed my car >:(
Show us a picture of the damage.

That's an ok distance for a car, and that color is rare! Sadly, it will most probably not be available for sale when I get to buy a car :(
oh god what is that thing over the rear window called? I really want one for my Golf
Spoiler, I guess it's shaped like that to remove the air suction :v:
So I went to move my car today and it turns out that the parking brake is stuck on. Even though it's an automatic, I use it a lot because I park on hills. Putting it on and off using the pedal doesn't seem to do anything, although the pedal was quite hard to push down after I took it "off". Strangely, the "BRAKE" light on the dash is off. Is there any quick way to fix it, or at least take it off so I can drive it without damaging my brakes?
oh fuck oh man oh god oh shit oh fuck oh shit
did he died
did he died
Apparently not, the cage didn't break and both survived, one with just minor injuries
what's so weird? Body shop called today. My car should be ready for pickup, tomorrow, at 5. I'm going to work during that time. :v:
If he really wants a Datsun, buy a 240sx like I did. I wanted to buy that 300zx until I talked to a couple of friends that owned one. Ridiculous and expensive repairs. Repairs are overtly complicated. Plus $5500 is way overpriced for that unless you were a die-hard Z fan.
I would have him buy a 240, but they're all riced up or salvage titles around here. What is so bad about the 300? Just expensive parts? I ask because I'm thinking about replacing my Sable with a sportier car and I love the look of Datsuns, I just know nothing about them.
Cramped as fuck engine bay from what I've read.
Im at work right now. Rich kid with parent bought RX8 comes in all stuck up. He comes back to his RX8 only to find out it doesnt start. I cringe each time he tries to crank it becuase that was a sign of a flooded engine. "Did you flood your Rotary man?" "Nah you guys sold me a defective battery it just died!" "You sure you didnt flood it? Supposed to rev it at key off you know?" Feels bad these rotaries are just being driven like daily by people who know nothing about them
I use a craigslist app on my iPhone and keep a list of the best bugs within like 5 hours driving distance. On any given day there's probably 8-10 bugs on that list that fit my price range and are in "ownable" condition. Of that list, 1-2 are '74 supers, which is what I'm looking for. About once a week I go through that list, remove the expired postings, and spend a good hour re-populating it with new offers. Of all of the changes to that list, this is by far the best one I've ever seen - but the rust is still concerning. I have (literally) no tools or machinery. I live with my mom and don't see my dad (ever), I have no access to tools to do any kind of grinding repairs myself (unless you guys can tell me what tools I'd need so I could get an estimate total cost), but I think this could be "the one".
$80 will easily cover going to harbor freight and buying a cheap set of tools, a grinder and start paying for undercoating. I would probably just make friends with someone who has a welder since they are a little more expensive, you could probably get some holes welded at a body shop for cheap though and do the paint/repair yourself. Although you should invest in a jack and jack stands as well, sounds like a nice christmas/birthday present.
harbor freight? wat
