I have a question regarding a car engine. Say if I'm in 5th gear, about 4000rpm going down a steep hill with my foot completely off the gas pedal. Is petrol still being injected into the engine? Or is there less of it being used than normally?
Most cars have dafc. Deacceleration fuel cut off.
When above a set rpm and below a set rpm it will stop the injectors from spraying.
On most cars u can feel the cut. the engine keep spinning from it being attached to the tranny and wheels.
That's not "The prelude to the Civic", it's a Honda Civic. The CVCC is a trim level of Civic containing an engine that uses CVCC, which is a precombustion technique to increase efficiency.
Old Hondas are what I originally started out working on and such when I was a child, I've owned a lot of them. The first car I ever purchased with ~my~ own money was a 1979 Honda Accord CVCC, the CVCC version of the accord had the CVCC head on a 1.6 engine, instead of the standard 1.8. But this one had the 1.8 swapped in already. It had the two-speed Hondamatic transmission, which was a FWD-styled "powerglide" type transmission. Very cool.
Great cars, but parts are scarce.

I can actually hear the engine still working, but when I put my foot down it grunts more, even with a tiny change in rpm. So that'll be the combustion I'm guessing.
Thanks guys. Just curious that's all.
Also on my scan gauge 2 it will go to open loop when in dafc. Engine sound doesn't change. It's still sucking in air and pumping it out
compressing won't use any gaz
you can see it clearly with a wideband
I dun launched too hard. And snapped my clutch cable. :(
[editline]21st August 2012[/editline]
If it's any consolation, I won.
Your clutch has a cable?
I managed to shear a few teeth off of second gear once racing a z3. I won but at the expense of 700 bucks.
Winnings not always worth it.
Clutch cable in what? I know you don't mean the 'yota, since it's got hydraulic clutch.
Also, after learning that a 95+ Dodge Dakot bolts to a Toyota R15x gearbox and has a GM Metric Bellhousing pattern, I'm opened up to possibilities of incredible swaps into my Celica using a R15x tranny and ~many~ engines, from the LS4 to the Supercharged 3800, from the Iron Duke to the Northstar V8.
Intense!
So, there was this weird problem I was having
My drivers side wheel was making a popping sound last Friday and it was worse as I hit rougher roads, I thought it was the suspension
I went and picked up food just now and it didn't make the sound at all, which leads me to believe it was a rock in the tread or something. Anyone know if that's what it was, or should I get it checked out? It wasn't affecting the drive at all (no pulling to one side, no weird brake noises or behavior...)
I'm thinking it doesn't...My brother was with me, and that's what he thought, granted he owned an Integra so he thought I snapped a cable. I don't know what the fuck I broke, I went to shift into third and I couldn't get it in, and when I let off to clutch, it didn't come back up. I pulled the pedal back up with my toes, and it stayed back up, and it moves, but it wouldn't disengage the clutch. I coasted into a parking lot, and let my brother drive it home trying to drive without the clutch.
Feelin like a winner. :(
The exact same thing happened to me, and it was that the clutch slave cylinder failed, which isn't too hard to replace, unless your car has the slave in the trans, like an F-150 does.

LS1 swap ecksdeeee
Also, that Tracker I'm looking at has a hydraulic clutch. Not sure what that means. Egg.

'09 Chevrolet Impala.
>mfw I see random brand new, deep-red FR-S just driving to work in my small town. Rare sight
>mfw the driver suddenly turns his head and looks at me
turns out my friend wasn't lying when he said he was going to own and drive one. I feel bad now, he was all shouting at me from his window, "where's your 240sx?" I was driving my GF's super reliable Corolla.
To think I made fun of him only several weeks ago for riding a hipster bike all the time throughout town. Turns out he was riding his butt off to work and making that money to get that FR-S. You really shouldn't be so wry towards others, you really don't know

I bet the Corolla is faster in a straight line.
HEY GUYS ITS THAT THING CALLED SARCASM
Also, you're not allowed to use greater-thans; everything from 4chan is disgusting and abominable, and using anything from 4chan causes a great deal of anal anguish around here.

You shouldn't think it doesn't. I just told you it has a hydraulic clutch. Every Mk2 Supra has a hydraulic clutch. Every rear-drive Toyota platform I can think of uses a hydraulic clutch. Early front-drive models don't because they didn't want to use an expensive flexible pressure line and instead opted for a cheap clutch cable.
And I can tell you that your hydraulic clutch took a shit on you.
Your pedal stuck to the floor because fluid pressure was lost, with no fluid pressure, there's nothing to push back the pedal. You've likely sprung a leak in a line, but it could be possible that the master and/or slave cylinder took a big dump on you, which is incredibly likely being as old as it is. I was lucky enough that the previous owner of mine replaced the master and slave cylinders when he put the brand new clutch in -- right before I got it.
Pop the hood. Check your clutch fluid. If it's full, you have a bad master cylinder or the pin fell out; look at your pedal assembly. If it's not, find out where it's leaking and replace whatever is in that area.
Simple stuff man, you'll have it going in no time! If you replace any part of the clutch system, breaking loose any line or getting any air into it, you can leave the top off of the reservoir, break loose the bleeder at the slave cylinder, and pump the pedal slowly to pull fluid through the line. keep going until it's just fluid coming out the slave cylinder valve, and don't let the reservoir run dry. Tighten up the valve, cap it, and you should have some clutch pedal there again.
Now, there is a chance it could have also broken the clutch fork, but that's extremely unlikely.
Go figure it out and let me know, can't wait to see you get it going again.
lol hoodoo got perma'd again
Bradley I didn't know you made cars:

There's a BRZ inside the showroom at my Subaru dealer and I really really want to go see it
BRZs are limited, right? I thought I read online that the BRZ were only going to be sold for a while, as the main brand that'll be supplying the cars was Scion.
I'm new to this whole insurance business and I was wondering is it true that older cars have cheaper insurance compared to their newer counterparts. I'm also sure I heard someone somewhere talking about "classic car insurance"
What's that?
Dunno about age, but I know if the more power your car has the more your insurance will be. And your age is also a big factor in how much your insurance is

I couldnt tell you but the insurance on my 88' Vic was $20 as opposed to my Blazer which is a lot more

If I buy the '72 Merc, then it's going to be insured on classic insurance. The big difference here is just that you get a 6000 km limit of driving each year and that the insurance is only active from March to November. Then, instead of paying 200 usd every month for insurance, you just pay ~200 a year.
Not that exact model I'll be buying though. The one I'm going for is ~350 usd a year, but allows me to drive as much as I want when I want, if I can keep up some requiements (like having it 90% working and restored at all times, it being kept in a heated garage, etc.)
That's in Denmark though, so there's probably going to be some differences.
Hey guys, I got a problem with my '90 Subaru Legacy. Went out, put the key in, and instead of unlocking the car the key just spun. So I'm assuming the locking mechanism is broken at the key part, seeing as locking/unlocking from the inside still works. How would I go about getting a replacement, would it need to be something tailored to my key (aka dealer) or can I order something else and would just have a different key for that door?
here in murrica the classic insurance has a 1000 mile a year limit, but no one checks it ever.
Enjoy cheap as fuck insurance (given that the company accepts your vehicles exterior as original)

Yeah, remember that slight oil leak? It's gotten worse. There is now a puddle of oil underneath the car. :|
Hoping Pick n pull has a couple supras or some Cressidas I can pull a pan off of, or I can find a website that sells 5MGE oil pans.

It had been dripping off the bolt, but I dunno what the fuck now.
