Cleaned out the EGR and took the timing out of adjustment and managed to pass with only a .01 g/KM margin on the hydrocarbon count. The average reading is .3466 and for the second test I have been way up there at .9828. I'm out of ideas on what is making the engine burn so rich.
my car made a metallic clunk and suddenly the popping noise stopped
it didn't leave anything behind when it happened, it isn't leaking, and it still drives fine
too good to be true?

Checked the sensors? Coolant temp/O2/cat/mani? Tune up? Plugs/filters? Vacuum leaks? Electrical? Engine wire and harness connections? Grounding? New catalytic converter?
So many rustangs.
Did a fairly big burnout with my truck today infront of my friends place, didn't think it could do it but it managed to shit out a pretty good one, that would be the first burnout I had ever done since I had brand new tires on my truck before and I didn't want to ruin them.
Check out the new Carrera 4 and 4S.

btw fuel prices here are based on the national average plus a small export fee, It's still much better than german economy prices. The average price here is for mid grade is $3.85.

Hey guys, got my license a couple of weeks back. And a week ago, got my first car!
Got it for a relatively good price compared to other NB's here in Holland.

It's a stock 1998 1.6 with 110hp. Not that much power, but I absolutely love the handling.
I'm eliminating variables now. I took the alternator off and got it tested, same with the battery. Then once I figure out how to get the goddamn thing onto solid pavement I'll take the starter off and get it tested.
The battery is fine, no internal shorts. The alternator is almost new, and the testing machine proved that. Starter is last of the big 3 electrical items to test. Then, if it's not the problem, its on to hunting down individual wires and modules. I ain't putting up with this shit in this truck.
My truck is toying with me
Usually runs around 210F, right in the center of the guage
climbs about 3/4 up the guage
frantically stare at it every 3 seconds
shows no signs of dropping
look up to navigate a turn
look back down its under 210
tell me your secrets cooling system, how do you ninja like that?

Oh also i broke my shift knob, it was dryrotted on the inside lol
Was hoping to go pick up my car today after work week, after 1h30 of drive, I decide to drive another 20 to my mech place, hoping to see my car in the driveway, sadly it wasn't there, still in the garage up the lift.
Goddamned I'm tired of waiting, will toss money at him so he finish tonight. (Will obviously go there to help)
I got a free car today. An Opel Kadett 1.6S.
I hate Opels, they absolutely suck, but, this being free and all. It'll have to do. It's also my first ever car (I get my drivers license next march), so that's something.
It was given to my dad yesterday because it was broken, but him being a mechanic he fixed it quickly and it now runs (and brakes!)
Pics coming tomorrow.

Mine was on Tuesday, but I've been too broke to go out and legally buy Alcohol. :(
going in for my inspection tomorrow hopefully considering i only have until monday before my 10 day grace period is up and i'm 150% illegal (100% no sticker and 50% "lol what safety inspection laws?")
it's pretty bad how much of my time recently has been spent either driving around or looking for Bug parts online.. i don't even have any money and i'm bookmarking cars and parts within a 100 mile radius of me, oh god it has become an addiction already.. i find myself praying some old dude will just come up to me at a gas station and be all, "hey, i've got a barn full of old Volkswagen shit. you want to come take a look and see if you want any of it?"
edit:
i feel bad about my truck just sitting a lot but it always sits a lot.. whatever, it's unreasonable to drive a 6L gas 2500hd pickup truck around all the time (i already did that for a year..) anyways. i still use the truck for work related stuff and hauling things to the dump and what not.
Took truck through Emissions, truck failed emissions. Anyone know how to read emissions tests?
[editline]31st August 2012[/editline]
I'm thinking my cat might be bad, but I've also got the slightest of the slightest exhaust leaks too.
[editline]31st August 2012[/editline]
Barely failed in the Idle test, blew the cruise test out of the water.
-----------------------HC(ppm) CO(%)
Cruise Limit:---------400------3.00
Cruise Emissions:----87------0.29
Idle limit:------------400------3.00
Idle Emissions:------567-----3.54
Now to attempt $150 in repairs to either pass or get my waiver.
I went to get inspected and they told me i have to wait till Tuesday.
:v:
This is actually kind of impressive.

118hp 190k mile KA24E (SOHC), slap on a little turbo and give it a tune on 91, and you get a practically 100% power increase. Incredible bump up for what was probably less than a grand in parts.
Ordered new Clutch Master and Slave Cyl, and some spark plugs so I could qualify for a Coopin.
[editline]31st August 2012[/editline]
From APW, btw.
I got my blazer running. I don't know how, but I did.
Things i did:
-take off alternator
-put alternator back on
-Disconnect battery
-Reconnect battery.
??????
Fucking magic.
It was probably the hot at the alternator. Juice for the ignition runs to and from there.
It could have been. I did find that the dumbass redneck who owned it before me tightened one of the mounting bolts for the alternator and stripped the aluminium out of the bolt hole. I'm also going to get some new battery posts because the postive one is loose and wore out. Still connecting, but worn.
[editline]31st August 2012[/editline]
How I found out that everything was running again was by putting everything back together (except the serpentine belt, that was a bitch to put back on by myself) and put the key in the ignition and turned it, expecting nothing. But what I got was the buzzing from the car telling me the key was in the ignition, which it wasn't doing when nothing worked, obviously. So I took the key out, put the belt on (which again is hard as fuck to do. I didn't have a wrench long enough to turn the tensioner enough so I had to muscle it) and started it right up. I was so fucking proud of myself.
