i found you too.. lol
charlie is you??
Today is my birthday, and I got one of the best presents ever yesterday: Someone taught me to drive stick! And I'll be doing it again today.
Couple things I learned:
1) The hardest part to learn is definitely starting from a stop.
2) It sucks learning on a car where the clutch only engages at the very end of it's travel.
3) It sucks learning on a car with a peppy high-revving engine.
4) It's REALLY hard to start from a stop when you're in third gear.
5) What's the best way to figure out when to upshift- revs or speed?
R) I asked the guy who was teaching me for his 0-60 and he proceeded to try it while only going to 3-3.5k before he shifted. Redline was 7000. :v:

when to shift depends, if you're in gotta go fast mood, shift just as you redline without bouncing, if you're driving normal, 3.5-4.5k is fine.
brad's facebook is in my history but he's not my friend
lol

2 lane road i shift at about 2-2.5k highway about 3-3.5k on a 6.5k rev redline and max torque at 4000 rpm

The easiest way to learn is using a high torque, low rev engine, combined with a simple gearbox.
I learned on two Jeep CJ5's, one with a 2.5L 4 speed and the other with a 4.2L 3 Speed.
I was surprised how fun 3 speeds actually are.
The best way to figure out when to upshift is the feel of the car. When you keep giving gas and it doesn't want to keep going faster, then you upshift. Or you can also listen to the engine.
Also starting on hills without any kinds of an E brake is a bitch.
I drove my own opel for the first time today, boy is it rubbish compares to dads audi.
