$3.09? It hasn't been that cheap in over a year here. I paid $4.059 a gallon for 87 octane gas on Friday. Almost $70 for 17 gallons. :(

It came out to 1/10th of my paycheck. >:(
About $100 for 10 gallons here.
That's what I filled the Golf up for last time

Doesn't matter. Holley makes a kit that comes with ECU, harness, manifold, 4bbl throttle body, injectors and all sensors to convert the classic smallblocks to port FI. Visually, it looks just like the old carb would have with the air cleaner installed(The chevs are a bit noticeable thanks to the rearward distributor, Fords hide the injectors under the plug wires), but you get all the benefits of Port FI. The system is good for about 800CFM to boot, so you can easily make 500HP on it.
The only thing you need to supply is an engine to bolt it to and a 50PSI electric fuel pump, everything else is in the box and bolts right on. If I were going to build a SMF or SBC for a corner carver I'd buy a Pro-Jection kit and avoid G-force induced fuel starvation.
With my Electronic computer operated Carburetor.
With my Electronic computer operated Carburetor.
Oh god do I hate these things. My F150 has one, but the only part I left hooked up is the throttle position sensor, and that's only so I have ignition advance.

I know holley makes a kit, a kit that is far more expensive than factory MPFI. Best way to go is factory MPFI kit + Megasquirt for performance, the sky is the limit with it and it's cheap as shit. Holley's fuel injection is kind of meh, it's overpriced for a billy bob garage build. It's more for those "dedicated racer" types, or those with too much money and not enough brains to wire up megasquirt or a similar, cheaper, and better fuel injection system.
500hp on just a fuel injection swap? No. You'll need a bigass lumpy cam and good flowing heads on top of that, if the kit comes with decent injectors -- and I'm not talking baby ass 21 or 24 pound injectors like you see in most kits, I mean 32, 36 pounds/hour. You need to be pushing a lot of fuel to make that much power out of a 5.0 N/A.
Check youtube out for old 302 windsor dyno videos. Find me one making 500hp N/A without spray or turbo. Few and far between, I'll tell you now. THe ones that make that kind of power are making it on a stroked bottom end, aftermarket heads, and most of the time -- forced induction. The 5.0 is too small to make 500hp N/A. It needs more displacement or some sort of power adder.
If I were going to build a small block ford or chevy for FI, I'd use Ford's sequential injection or Chevy's tuned port injection. Great systems, they just need bigger injectors and a better fuel control system -- which I'd use Megasquirt for.
for a sporty car i suppose it is pretty good, but all other cars around here get way better.
I'm not in america remember, we all drive crappy little 1.0-3.0s here...
I got 19mpg yesterday in my 1.8, sticker says like 28/36 or something. My friend has broken down into 17 and upwards of 43(high comp, long 5th). If you're flooring it constantly your 1.0 will still make shit gas mileage which you have to do with a gutless piece of shit. My friend's v8 5.0 carb'd Camaro will still make at least 23 highway, you seem to be mistaking economy with displacement or something. I also know someone who can make 9mpg out of a 1.8 but that's not very applicable since he has a big ass turbo.

My grandpa bought me another raffle ticket for that 79 Trans Am. It's next weekend! I won't win it, I know this but a part of me is trying to hope. It even has the original 8 track player. I'd just goto goodwill and clean out all the disco 8 tracks

My family has a 2005 Chevy Impala, and occasionally the speedometer will stop working, the needle will just point straight down. We have found through trial and error that disconnecting the battery for a short time will generally solve the issue, but I was wondering what is causing this, and if there is a more permanent solution? Also, the only time it happened while I was driving was going down a particularly steep hill, if that helps.

I think that would be an issue with loose or frayed wiring going to the IC, or just a bad Instrument cluster.

Put a 5-speed from a newer truck in it instead. Problem solved for good, manuals don't fail like that.
Should try looking for a first gen Dakota:
