Americans, what are your views of Ford Explorers?
I thought so too :) I really hope it is mechanically sound. The guy who is selling is has treated it right, but I'm not sure about previous owners. Regardless some point in the near future I'm planning on doing an engine rebuild, I love the M42 platform (It's a 318is), but I just want to make sure I can drive it for long time. (I have access to a really well stocked personal garage with a car lift and an engine lift, plus someone who knows a thing or two about pulling apart engines, so that will be a big project of mine) Current owner installed new suspension roughly a year ago, along with some Bilstein shocks and other miscellaneous hardware to replace what needed replacing. I REALLY hope the rust situation isn't bad, because I want this car SO BADLY.
From the way it's been kept nice and clean, it's probably in good mechanical order. You can tell it's been attended to just from the photos, such as the steering wheel being replaced. (That's an e36 one) BMWs really are a nice drive, I've owned an e30 in the past, moved onto an e36 and now im looking at getting an M3. Treat these cars well and they're bulletproof.

I want them to start making the Excursion again. I loved that beast :(
Americans, what are your views of Ford Explorers?
I'm not terribly fond of them. The 'reliable' ones are too small, the ones that are the right size don't exist, and the enormous ones are ugly. Oh, and the new one is blaaaaagrgh. WTF are you doing, Ford?
I want them to start making the Excursion again. I loved that beast :(
There's just no market for it. >drive excursion to fuel up >$20 for 3.8 gallons >mpg meter says 125 miles to empty >drive ~5 miles >90 miles to empty >12 mpg average >friend has featherfoot other than that drift/ when he let me do a burnout oh yeah he let me do another diesel burnout :)
My grand prick the fuel meter doesn't tell the truth intill about 10-15 minutes of acutal driving. You start it up and told its half a tank, start driving it goes to 3/4th a tank.

[T][/T]Slapped a old K&N on my truck the other day and I took a spin today to test it out. [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/98a5323f.jpg[/thumb] I've noticed a slight increase in low end tourqe and throttle response, probably a lot better than my old filter as it was dirty and I dont have a propper snorkel hose so the open element works better. The way I have it right now it barely fits on, I need to get a propper housing for it.
Welcome to late 90's GM gas gauges, mine does the same thing. :v: Also, ask conker about the one in his grand slow.
At least it's not like my gas gauge. Gallons 0-1: No needle movement whatsoever. Needle is resting on the stop on the E side. You have about 10-15 miles before it stops running. Gallons 1-8: Just barely enough to move the needle off it's resting point. Shows well below E. Gallons 8-10: Needle twitches a bit, may line up with the E if it's in a good mood. Gallons 10-19: Needle shoots up to full. Needless to say it makes long-range trips a bit hairy. You don't know if there's 8 gallons or 8 ounces left in the tank once it gets down past half-way, so you end up refilling at every other fuel station you pass. On the plus it makes commuting ~20-30Mi/trip easier, fill it up as you would with a working gauge and you have a week's supply in reserve :v:

Over the course of this particular drive, my tank emptied and magically refilled itself at least three times. That, or the gas gauge is just that shitty. Most likely the latter.
I'm thinking of getting the bench seat in my '67 replaced with cloth. Having no A/C makes you sweat so like a bitch.
Good afternoon gentlemen, and possible ladies. I'm going to join in a little more or less here, as I'm turning 18 in November and I'm going to buy my first car this autumn, like September or October. It's going to be a Volvo 745 from 1991, and most probably white. It need to be a 745 from 1991, because I grew up in one, as my grandfather had a white 745 '91 and drove it until the day he got cancer. But yeah, will mostly be lurking anyways, I guess, till I buy the car.
Get in grand am Turn key once 3/4 tank Turn car on bit lower than 3/4 a tank put car in drive 1/4 tank get to end of driveway, back up 1/2 tank drive to school suddenly have 3/4 tank again furk yeah!
Dad said the last car looked sketchy so I found another http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/cto/2888090639.html I have most of the money, it's just a matter of getting the car, how much is it to have something driven 1900 Km on primarily interstate highways. Google maps says it should take around 2 days worth of driving. http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/2910484832.html This is the cheapest one but again it's just a matter of getting it.
My grand prick does the same with the 3.8, except it drinks slightly faster. Turn key on, 3/4, start car, 1/2, run driveway, 3/4, 2mins later, 1/4 :v:
I fell bad for all these gas gadge issue's. Turn key on 1/4 tank. Go down the road 1/4 tank. Get to my destination(20miles) Gaslight + Almost empty. Put gas in it (15.9 gallon's) out of a 16 gallon tank. Fukkk yea. [editline] fdjgn[/editline] When will car makers make gas gadges based on the tank weight for a better more accurate reading?
Mine reads on a digital dashboard how many miles you have left before you hit the reserve. So far it's been spot on. I'd happily trust it. Combined with the Average MPG and a the giant fuel guage (the scale of which seems to take into account your current driving style, have a lead foot and it will show less fuel, sort of like a countdown to imminent tank emptiness over time. it's more relaxed if you are driving in a manner which is good on fuel - Hard to explain) I have a pretty good idea how much fuel I have. I get a silly amount of miles out of a tank, It's just so good on fuel.
They call me the skidding bandit leaving blackmarks around town no one knows who this man of mystery is or why he must destroy his transmission/front tire but he's got a baller ass pontiac so who cares
I like how all fuel gauges are trolling the fuck outta us, I bet they have a forum called: FUEL GAUGE PUNCH where they proceed to laugh at us. Mine used to be pretty accurate (for a 23yo car, supra yo) but since I installed those 550c and removed the 9V to 12V relay switch and made the fuel pump use a permanent 12V, the fuel gauge has been acting all gettho on my ass; If I want a somewhat accurate reading, I have to get to 2000rpm light load for it to stabilize
