Needs a new sproket for the chainsaw and it's good to run, needs a bunch of stuff to make it more comfy and to go faster and stuff
lmao what are you making with that like 1 human power kill yourself
With some redneck mods (ram air from a old funnel, home made expansion chamber or one off a snowmobile) I hope to squeeze 2 HP out of it, that things a death trap, doesn't even have brakes, dont know if it ever will. Going to put on some ape hangers, long foot rests, and maybe a lower seat after I do the previous mods.

Bwahaha. I'd love to not have to worry about whether or not my engine will pass some arbitrary limits set forth by a lawmaker.
I'd still run a cat though. I'm not sure the guys behind me appreciate the smell of old, carburetted american iron the same way we do.
My control arm's are giving me complete hell. Every time I turn CUNK. Every time anything happens CUNK. I herd you like 120mph? LETS SWING LEFT TO RIGHT WEEEEEEE.
Must spend the 250$ and 3 day's to put them on. Help :suicide:

The only time I use a torque wrench is for crankshaft girdle, rod ends, camshaft caps and cylinder head. If you need a torque wrench for anything else you aren't a real mechanic.

Let's see...flywheel-to-crankshaft bolts, pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts, bellhousing bolts, wheel nuts, most of the suspension bolts.
Just a few other places off the top of my head where a torquewrench should be used.
Just purchased a new backpack, whadya think?

The flywheel bolts I could understand, even though I don't use a torque wrench on those either. But bellhousing bolts, wheel nuts, and suspension bolts are plain silly. Bellhousing bolts can be overtorqued a LOT and you're still okay -- so just get them TIGHT! Wheel nuts I use an impact on, but even still, people have been using lug wrenches for years and only the pussies who can't tighten wheel nuts properly lose wheels. And most suspension components actually have castle nuts and cotter pins in them, so to torque them to spec is impossible anyways due to having to align the pin hole.
All the years I've worked on cars, I have never used a torque wrench on those, and I've never had any of that come apart on me. And it's been like that since the old times, not everyone could afford a torque wrench back in the day. When people realized that torque specs were *mostly* just 'being precise' and a lot of things would work without being spot-on, that's how the average man started being the average mechanic.

Once you start talking about all that, I start to feel bad :(
I've only had a love for cars since October '11, and so far I've only learned enough about routine maintenance, nothing major. I felt like an absolute badass when I took off the air intake and cleaned the throttlebody xD

we all start somewhere. I started by changing the sparkplugs and valve cover gaskets on my car, then drilling and putting helicoil on the exhaust manifolds studs, then changing the turbo, then injectors and maf, then swapping the engine.
see, it goes fast :P

I don't like half-assing my work, so I use a torquewrench when called for. If the manual says this bolt needs to be 85 FT LBs, I set it to 85 FT LBs. I don't just toss a ratchet on it and guesstimate. But then, I'm more of a "Do it right the first time, never do it again" type, so I don't half-ass and guesstimate when working on my shit. I'll happily take extra time to do it by the book. You don't seem to mind 'close enough enough', and that's fine for you. I couldn't trust a car worked on to that standard.
Also, most of the suspension bolts don't have cotter pins and castle nuts. A few do, most don't. I'm talking shit like control arm to frame bolts, strut retention bolts, the fucking enormous nuts holding my radius arms and I-beams on, things like that.
Hoping it's okay to post this in here, as I don't want to clog up the forum with one of my posts by starting an entirely new thread. I don't have much to work with, but I kind of want to soup up my car to at least look nice and perhaps some performance work. I am really just interested in aesthetics at the time being, seeing as they are generally cheaper than actual upgrades.
So.. here's my model.. 2009 Ford Focus SE. It's not exactly attractive.

Mine is pretty economy. Interior is all black, granted cheapish and the material on the seats is ugly as sin. However, I'm not going to worry about that just yet. I was just wanting some input on what I could possibly do to make this look at least somewhat visually appealing (if that's even possible). I'll set a $2000 budget on upgrades over the next year or so. Here's some stuff I was thinking about.
-Fog Lights $?
-Lip Kit $250ish
-Lowered Springs $250ish
-Painting rims and shiny part of grille black $?
-Tinting tail lights $15
-HID headlight upgrade $100
I was thinking about getting some mirror bras and handle covers initially in a chrome color and then painting them black as well.
Any thoughts or ideas (besides something that requires me to buy a new car).

Also considering tinting windows as low as legally permitted.

Ew, that's really ricer stuff.
Imo, just get performance coils and tuck your wheels in. You'll enjoy the new stance and it will drive differently. See if you can upgrade things like the stereo/speaker system. The performance aspect would make your car shine, not the weird looking aesthetics. Get nice rims of the same size and see if you can purchase smaller performance upgrades.
I know this because I did exactly that to my girlfriend's old 2004 grandma Corolla. Stole these track wheels from my now-dead Mazda, fit race grips on it and slapped the nice coils on it. It wasn't the same car after that :P

-Fog Lights $?
Do them in a normal color and brightness and there's nothing wrong with this retrofit.
-Lip Kit $250ish
Eeeeh. I'm not sure. It's already low enough as it is, this might see it scraping on speed bumps.
-Lowered Springs $250ish
And this will guarantee it. I'd advise against lowering it. If you insist on lowering it do it properly, drop springs most often muck with suspension geometry in negative ways. It will cost more but it will last much longer and be easier on tires.
-Painting rims and shiny part of grille black $?
On the rims, don't bother painting the stock ones. Sell them off and fit a nice set of 15" or 16" wheels with 40-60 series tires. Better handling, still retain decent ride quality, and it will look nicer. As for the grill, by all means go ahead. I'm not fond of Ford's current grilles.
-Tinting tail lights $15
Oh please god don't do this. Your taillights need to be at full brightness for safety's sake. Tinted brake lights may make the difference between that semi seeing and avoiding you and not seeing you and flattening you when you get caught out in a crazy random downpour.
-HID headlight upgrade $100
Do NOT do this UNLESS the kit comes with the proper housings, reflectors, lenses and bulbs. Make sure they're aimed properly as well. If it's just a set of HID bulbs for the stock housings you will blind everyone else on the road regardless of how they're aimed.

Any thoughts or ideas (besides something that requires me to buy a new car).
I think you should get a nice set of aftermarket wheels as I mentioned above, de-chrome the grille, and put a decent, balanced radio in it. No ricer bass-only setup, something that could play any song in high quality.
Also considering tinting windows as low as legally permitted.
This is a good idea, will make it cooler in the summer and reduce glare.
My overall suggestion: New, reasonable rims, de-chrome the grille, tint the windows, retrofit foglights, nice radio, then look into a header and snazzy exhaust system. 2 1/4 inch pipe should be about the largest you'll need with a stock 4-pot, and it should sound pretty good as long as you don't stuff a moo bomb on it. A short-ram intake will also make it sound nicer.
Legal tint limits are silly, find someone who is willing to do tint below the legal limit. The limit in my state is 27%; I'm glad I got 15% instead, 27% is kinda lame imo
-10% tint
It actually creates a pocket of darkness because it pushes the light away.
Whenever i retint my windows, i'm going to get a pretty light tint. I hate not having any peripheral vision around sweeping corners at night.

For the love of god, do not do these. Tinting your brake lights is a recipe for disaster - there used to be a couple Civics at my old high school with tinted lights, and during the bright Florida day, you could not tell if they were braking. If you want darker brake lights, get the brake lights off of the Focus Coupe - AFAIK, the coupe and sedan share the same rear quarter panels, so they should be interchangeable.
HID lights will make everyone on the road hate your guts and possibly get you keyed.
Someone left a flier under my windshield wiper, labeled "We buy your junk cars!"
I am offended >:c
Yeah, i think the limit for front windows in FL is like 28% but can I get away with 15%. I mean I dont think the cops care?
I don't think the cops in CO care. I got pulled over at night once, he even turned on his spotlights to shine in my car so there is no way that he didn't know that the tint was too dark. It's just one of those laws that cops don't really enforce unless they're being bitches
