Not really. Wushu style stuff and Kung-fu aren't very effective in real fights, since they were designed as competition martial arts. Their attacks are more based on speed and accuracy, since those fights depend on a point system. The only person so far that has been able to effectively use a fighting style like Karate is Lyoto Machida, and that is because he has infused it with elements of Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The weakness of most Asian martial arts is that you are completely helpless toward people that just charge in and clinch with you. However, there are a few that are legitimately useful in real combat situations, such as Muay Thai. TKD can be useful if you combine it with an art that covers the close-range weakness it has.

Boxing is probably one of the most effective arts for a real fight, no?

In a basic street fight, possibly. It would definitely give you an advantage, since most people just swing their fists wildly, hoping to hit something. A controlled boxer would dominate someone like that. Muay Thai is pretty much boxing with kicks, so it is generally more effective, especially since nobody expects kicks in spontaneous fights.

You're also not taking into account all the grappling arts in Eastern culture - Shuai jiao (Chinese Wrestling), judo, jiu-jitsu, there are more Asian grappling martial arts than from anywhere else in the world combined. I'm not a huge fan or practitioner of Eastern martial arts. Kickboxing, wrestling, Muay Thai and BJJ are good enough for me. I'm just saying you're really thick-skulled if you don't give credence and respect to most Asian styles, if not for their practicality in the face of Krav Maga then for their deep history, many styles and historic application in real-world wars. EDIT: p.s., I will personally vouch that Kyokoshin karate is brutal and unforgiving. Watch the Fight Quest episode on it if you want - those fuckers are mean strikers.

Also, Karate is plenty effective and mean - maybe not the shit you see in black belt factories on strip malls.
