Why do we need threads locked at 2000 posts, like this one

I think the old 5000 post limit was better, why wasn't that but back rather than the 2000?

I prefered 5000 too, but I guess it's for the good of the forums.

That said, it's only 3000 extra posts, that wouldn't cause too much server strain, would it?
