so for my birthday my mom got me a credit card??? "american express platinum" and also a celery plant very like, adult stuff I'd have preferred just the celery plant really
Credits cards are good in moderation, you can up your credit score well and prepare for future life choices (Buying a car, buying a home, renting, etc)
I think I'm just gonna use it to get humblebundles and the occasional $2 dealextreme thingy though :v I'm really kinda scared of credit cards because debt and stuff
think of how much of a high-roller you'll look like with a platinum card though!
I think I'm just gonna use it to get humblebundles and the occasional $2 dealextreme thingy though :v I'm really kinda scared of credit cards because debt and stuff
Credit cards are awesome for the benefits There is literally no debt or interest if you pay your balance in full every month once you get your bill/statement. Dad always taught me I shouldn't spend what I don't have so if you treat your credit card like a debit card it ends up getting you nice bonuses, builds your credit score, and you don't have any of the bad stuff i.e. my card I've already literally gotten $200 free in the past year (I've had it for a little under a year) just by using it normally from rewards, I have free car rental insurance (didn't need it though, thankfully), everything I buy has the manufacture warrenty extended by a year, if I had a cell with a monthly fee and I paid it with my card I'd get "free" phone insurance against theft and damage (read: pay a $50 co-pay to get your replacement phone unless its super cheapo), etc. I've paid zero in interest so the only money I've sent to my credit card company is the exact amount of money I paid for stuff (as if I were using a debit card). And yet I use it just like a debit card. Always pay my full balance every month, never spend more than I can afford (if my card's current balance is $300 then I mentally assume whatever in my bank account is $300 less), etc. One trick is to try and keep your spending below 1/3rd of the credit limit. If you don't spend more than a third of your credit limit each month, then that's considered good by credit companies and gets you a better credit score (while "maxing" a card too much is considered bad credit, and might get you a worse score). The nicest thing about credit is the fact that there's about a month delay between when the bill is sent and when its due. While this is bad to rely on, when I had to emergency buy a new car, it was nice knowing the $500 I owed in credit could wait till the end of month (and by that time, I could easily pay it from a few weeks pay at my job). Versus if I still only had debit, where I pay the moment I make a purchase, which would not have allowed me enough funds to buy a car with cash from my bank the moment I needed a replacement to a car that died. So it's nice as a blanket of security, knowing that if shit hits the fan and you need to emergency spend on X with cashola, the "everyday purchases" I've made with my card won't need to be paid for till later in the month, or worse comes to worse I could just suck it up and pay half one month and half the other month (plus interest).
I use a debit card but I should probs get a credit card when I can
Everything KorJax said is good but I also need to add something Pay it off in full at the end of the month, but actually let your balance stay until then. With online banking it's easy to just pay it off immediately after every transaction but then your statements will all show $0 and all that use will do nothing to improve your credit score. Basically wait for your statement (probably not paper anymore but it'll still be called a statement) then pay it off before the due date. Not early unless you have to, not late ever
I found a debit card with some cash still on it, treated myself a Gold membership and a sweet title. Good morning gays, also known as 4:40 am. :v:

Wait until the statement arrives before paying, the thing you get in the email with the "you owe $XXX" message before paying
