I don't want to envy anyone with this question, since it's a serious one:
How does my bf like my style at all? I mean, I'm weird and not that pretty, yet he says that he ends up liking me more at the end of every day. Am I not confident enough? Is this low self-esteem a possible problem relationship wise?
Anime is a difficult subject. Don't get me wrong, I like anime in general, but I had to dig pretty deep to find shows and movies I actually liked all the way through. To put it blunt, most of it is just too poorly written and shallow for my taste. The animation quality also varies greatly. That's just my opinion and I don't know how much you should listen to it, given the fact that I'm a huge pretentious artsy film faggot.
But Go watch [I]Jin-Roh[/I], the feature length movie. It's just a legitimately good film. [I]Perfect Blue[/I] is also quite neat in a Hitchcock-esque way. Of the top of my head, these are the ones I can generally recomment without any personal, subjective influence. Ghost in the Shell is quite generic at times and suffers from vaying writing quality between the episodes, but is has it's brilliant moments that make it worth watching. Elfen Lied is something best watched around 16. If I watched it now, i'd propably accuse it of trying too hard to be really, really edgy but it's just got a place in my heart as a part of my great, awesome teenage years. There's tons of others I can't think of right now, just look for it.
To be honest, I'm more into manga, when it comes to japanese-made entertainemt. Blade of the Immortal, Koroshiya Ichi or I am a Hero have real good writing, Berserk is plain entertaining, Blame, Biomega or anything Nihei Tsutomu in general looks amazing and is deliciously mind-warping and Itou Junji's horror works will break your mind after a while

I've only read the books and watched the Scandinavian films, but I know what you mean. My parents are pretty open to anything, movie-wise. What great, totally non-awkward family movie moments with Bill Moseley forcing a blowjob from a woman at gunpoint in front of her husband after rubbing his M1911 in her panties. Even if noone has a problem with this stuff, the awkwardness of a family situation is just present no matter what

ugh i literally just pointed out that anime is not a genre, it's a medium. if you said "i don't like horror anime" that might make sense. horror anime is a genre. anime is not a genre. all works within a genre have common elements, but all works within a medium share nothing in particular.
